Conclusion

Patient B.S.S was referred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial

Regional Hospital from Ignacio L. Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Isabela.

Her presenting chief complaints was loose bowel movement. She was then given

an initial diagnosis of Anemia. One of the laboratory tests done to my client was a

complete blood count wherein it revealed that the client was suffering from low

hemoglobin levels. Other tests done to the client were blood typing, antibody

screening and donors blood typing and ABO & Rh typing along with

crossmatching in lieu of the blood transfusion. She also had her clinical chemistry

and stool exam work done. The treatment and intervention done to the client was

transfusion of 2 units of packed RBC of her blood type. Later on, my patient

wanted to be discharged against medical advice because she claimed she feels

better even though her hemoglobin level was still below normal. However, she

got to secure 2 bags of packed RBC and one was transfused before she got

discharged.

Being able to assess the patient through comprehensive interview and

thorough head-to-toe assessment enabled me to have a clearer understanding of

anemia, a topic which had been previously discussed in the classroom. Utilizing

the knowledge I had learned through research and being able to successfully

apply it on a patient enabled me to become a more skillful student nurse through

this exposure. In the future when I will encounter similar patients, I now have

better understanding so I can provide the best care the client needs. Being

assigned to this case, I was able to reach more heights. My abilities as a student

nurse has significantly improved and I am able to grow on a professional level.

XV. Recommendations
This in-depth case study done to the clients condition enabled a thorough
assessment that is important in the furtherance of knowledge. Complete
information and data will ensure that proper care is given and optimal health is
restored and maintained. The following recommendations should be noted:
To the patient,
Continuous participation in the different activities and procedures would be of
utmost importance in order to preserve and maintain the wellness achieved. The
holistic care provided by the medical team, especially the nurse, must be carried
out and adhered to even at home. The client must take responsibility to the home
instructions given and to follow-up her condition. Abiding by the therapeutic
regimen will enable the client to have a fast and speedy recovery. By doing so,
the client must have full awareness and complete understanding of the disease
process, etiology, and treatment necessary. Not only that, but the client must be
alert for any signs and symptoms that might threaten her well-being. Client must
be knowledgeable of what is being medicated and the action it has in the
progression or the prevention of the disease from worsening. The different
advantages and benefits of lifestyle changes should be of great emphasis
because some serious complications might occur. If the client feels anything
wrong or notices any deviation, medical assistance should always be sought.
To the patients family,
Constant vigilance is necessary to prevent any complications from happening to
the client. Monitoring the patients health and well-being should be a priority so
that worsening of the disease process is halted. The best holistic care should be
provided even at home by the family members. The client must have enough
support from the family members to have a fast recovery. It is important that the
family should also be aware of the condition of the patient and even of the
possible outcome of her condition. Even just continuously being there for the
client, providing love, care, and support goes a long way in meeting the many
needs of the client. Time and effort is of the essence, as well. It is a high priority
to understand the illness that the patient is going through and to be alert in
reporting of any abnormal or discomforts that the patient is facing during and
after the illness period.
To the University of St. La Salle College of Nursing,
Expansion of knowledge on anemia could be achieved by taking care of an
actual client. By doing so, it should be noted that for future researchers, spending

41
more time with the client would be of great help in rendering holistic care. It
should be kept in mind that no two patient is the same and individualized care is
needed to provide for a maximization of health benefits. Future researchers
should also study beforehand the disease process of the client and review the
management and treatment.
