Unit Purpose:

This unit provides the learner with the understanding to recognize the value to organizations
of creative and innovative management ideas and the skills to implement this
understanding.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand the importance of creative and innovative management in organizations

2. Be able to support creative and innovative management processes for an organization

3. Be able to influence others to effect change in an organization

4. Be able to plan to overcome barriers to implementation of creative and innovative


management ideas in an organization

Scenario

You are required to choose any organization that you are familiar with or the one where you
have previous worked or currently working in. Being a part of senior management, your job
is to plan and direct first-line managers and develop processes for groups or functional units
that would improve the productivity of an organization. You are well-aware that only
creative and innovative organizations can overcome competition and survive in the market.
This involves the process of managing an organization's innovation procedure, starting at
the initial stage of ideation, to its final stage of successful implementation. It not only
encompasses the decisions, activities and practices of devising but also implementing and
monitoring innovation strategy.
In recent times, there is an increased number of complains about the customer service
policy of your company. As the company grew in size, the increased number of customers
has made it difficult to maintain a good relationship with them. Also, management's
constant ignorance and delay in developing better customer service policies has led to a
noticeable decrease in company's revenue and negatively influenced customer loyalty. You
have noticed this issue and has decided to develop better customer service policies and
practices in order to retain customers and attain competitive advantage in market. For all
your tasks, your review of literature, findings, recommendations and conclusion must
underpin the research purpose and demonstrate the learning outcomes mentioned above.

Task 1

For this task, you will have to design a work-based portfolio to analyze and explore the
importance of creative and innovative management in your organization and how you
intend to support these management processes. You will have to evaluate current levels of
innovation in an organization, to lead others to embrace and support innovation.
Furthermore, it is important that there is support within the organization for ongoing
innovation and creativity.

In the next section of the portfolio, you will recognize the crucial part that mission and
vision play in this and also find out how to identify creative ideas and assess their viability
and, through the understanding of change models, support the implementation of
innovative ideas.

Task 2

Mostly people working within the organization cannot easily see the benefits of an
innovative idea. It will be your job to prepare a report, produce an appropriate rationale
and identify key goals and priorities to help persuade and communicate your creative and
innovative management ideas to stakeholders. This report will be presented to your
company's Stakeholders in an upcoming meeting.

In spite of developing a creative strategy through the mission and vision, there are often
barriers to innovation within an organization such as risk adversity, fear of change,
expertise and fear of failure. Therefore the last section of your report will be to find out how
to assess these barriers, develop a strategy and implement it to overcome them.
