In the first stepladder match between a pair of 23-year-old PBA new-
comers, Anthony Caso of Spring Hill, Fla., eliminated five-time Puerto
Rico national team member Cristian Azcona, 244-219. Caso struck on
five of his first six shots, held a 37-pin lead after Azcona failed to con-
vert the 3-6-10 in the seventh frame, and doubled in the ninth and 10th
frames to clinch the win.
Allen, a 38-year-old, 18-year PBA Tour veteran, eliminated Caso in
almost identical fashion in the semifinal match, 228-201. Allen started
the contest with five strikes on his first six attempts while Caso, a third-
year PBA member who was bowling in only his second PBA Tour event,
struggled to find the pocket until the final two frames.
IBC Youth Development Invests in
Program for Kids Ages 8 and Under
ARLINGTON, Texas To improve the bowling experience for youth
bowlers, particularly those competing in the sport for the first time,
International Bowling Campus Youth Development will provide youth
members ages 8 and under with a free Bowlopolis membership upgrade
kit starting with the 2017-2018 season.
IBC Youth Development will further enhance the package by provid-
ing coaches and youth directors with tools to improve the experience for
children bowling in their first league, including a progress poster for the
entire league.
All new this year, the Bowlopolis membership upgrade kit provides
youth bowlers with a Bowlopolis brag tag, an interactive magazine,
crayons, a game board with stickers, and the chance to participate in a
coloring page contest.
We want to ensure the first experience for youth bowlers is fun and
exciting, and to make sure they have the tools to learn and see improve-
ment as they begin their journey on the lanes, said IBC Managing
Director of Youth Development Gary Brown. Children have opportu-
nities to participate in different sports, but through the Bowlopolis pro-
gram we will show them the excitement, competition and opportunities
bowling can provide for many years to come.
The Bowlopolis membership upgrade, while free to children age 8 and
under with their $4 United States Bowling Congress Youth membership,
will remain available for other youth members at the current cost of
$3.50.
The free Bowlopolis membership upgrade will require a $60,000
investment by IBC Youth Development as it seeks to strengthen a seg-
ment of youth bowling. Research has shown bowling has lost the most
ground in youth membership for those ages 6 to 10, as children explore
multiple youth sports and activities.
IBC Youth Development will encourage local processors to expedite
youth memberships. Ensuring the Bowlopolis kits are delivered as
quickly as possible to the center for distribution will increase the chance
of a youth bowler having a better experience.
Included in the Bowlopolis membership upgrade will be the opportu-
nity for one youth bowler to earn a trip to the IBC through a coloring
page contest. Youth bowlers will be able to mail their completed color-
ing page to IBC Youth Development, where all entries will be displayed,
and one participant will be selected to win a trip to the campus where
they will tour the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, see
the International Training and Research Center, and receive equipment
and lessons from Team USA.

Weber not only recorded his 100th overall PBA
title, but joined Walter Ray Williams Jr. and Gene
Stus in a tie for fifth place on the all-time PBA50

Throughout his colorful career as a PBA Tour
competitor, winning 38 titles to rank third on the
all-time list behind Walter Ray Williams Jr. (47)
and Earl Anthony (43), Norm Duke has never had

a year with as many close calls as he had during the
2017 PBA50 Tour season. In addition to his lone
title in Mooresville, N.C., in May, Duke had three

California Team Takes U12 Title at USA Bowling National Championships

WICKLIFFE, Ohio Four young friends
from California put together a bowling team
because they wanted to hang out and have
fun doing something they all enjoyed.
Now, they are national champions after
capturing the 12-and-under title at the 2017
USA Bowling National Championships pre-
sented by Sixlets.
The title match aired on CBS Sports
Network.
A combination of hard work, good chem-
istry, the support of their coaches and local
bowling community and a little extra time
together on the lanes gave the members of
Cloverleaf Strikers the tools they needed to
defeat Georgia All Stars, 3-1, in the best-
of-five modified Baker finals at Game of
Wickliffe.
In the unique format, the first two
bowlers in the lineup each bowl three
frames per game (1-5-9 and 2-6-10,
respectively), while the other two team
members bowl two frames each (3-7 and 4-
8).
The winning team included 2016 NorCal
Bowling Centers Youth Bowling
Association All-Stars Nihal Mareedu and
Diego Jara, Harley Shene and Joey Irvin.
Cloverleaf Strikers, representing the
Pacific Southwest, squeaked out a 169-167
win in the opening game under the CBS
Sports Network lights, when Georgia All
Stars anchor Jacob Ballenger failed to con-
vert a 10 pin in the final frame.
The Strikers managed just one strike in a
206-174 loss to the All Stars in Game 2 but
rallied with wins of 204-147 and 192-185.
In the finale, the Atlantic East champion
All Stars closed with four strikes, leaving
Cloverleaf anchor Harley Shene needing a
mark and three pins to secure the title. He
struck on his first shot and got nine on his
second to seal it.
This really is amazing because we
havent had a chance to bowl together all
that much as a team, so coming away with
the win was something we didnt expect,
Harley said. I knew I needed a mark. I
just wanted to strike, so I didnt end up
leaving something I could miss.

was an accomplishment to be proud of,
since this program is growing and the com-
petition in each region is getting stronger,
Bill Johnson said. Anytime you lose, its
hard, but we try to emphasize the impor-
tance of sportsmanship and learning from
each loss, along with the wins. Thats part
of what USA Bowling is about. We love all
the kids, and well keep doing everything
we can to help this great program grow and
succeed.
The 2017 USA Bowling National
Championships included two divisions
12-and-under and 15-and-under each
with its own TV show.
Both shows were taped July 22 in con-
junction with the 2017 Junior Gold
Championships for broadcast on CBS
Sports Network. This years U15 final of
the USA Bowling National Championships
will air Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. Eastern.
