General guidelines:

1. Read the question carefully. Identify the focus of the question

2. For 1 focus provide minimum 3 evidence. For more than one focus, provide minimum 3, 1 evidence
to support each focus. Include your opinion.

3. Make sure you do not make factual error when providing evidence

When answering your novel question, it is helpful to have a framework to organize


your answer. A simple but comprehensive framework, may look like this:

Based on one of the novels above, write about the saddest or happiest part in the novel. Support your
response with evidence from the novel.

P1 The novel that I have studied is Moby Dick by Herman Melville. Moby Title : Novel

Dick tells the story of Captain Ahabs quest to kill a (1)________________ white Synopsis

whale called Moby Dick whom he (2)_____________ for losing one of his leg. The Focus: Question

happiest part in the novel for me is the (3)________________.

P2 First of all, one of my (4)______________ character Moby Dick survives the

fight. On the third and final day of the fight with Moby Dick, both Fedallah and

Captain Ahab (5)_____________ at the sea but luckily the white whale survives.

Moby Dick is just the victim of Captain Ahabs (6)_________________ and

forgiveness. I am glad that it swims free.


P3 Next, another reason is my second favourite character Ishmael survives

the (7)_______________ too. The Pequod sinks and all the crew drown except for

Ishmael. Queequegs coffin keeps Ishmael (8)______________ and alive for two

days. I am happy that the Rachel saves Ishmael from certain death at sea. I

would be sad if Ishmael dies.

P4 Last but not least, I like Ishmaels final (9)_________________ in Chapter 13

about the Pequods and the Rachels crew. Ishmael stated that they, the

Pequod crew died fighting Moby Dick just because one man hated a whale.

However, the men on the Rachel looked for a boy because one man loves his

P5 To sum up, the happiest part in the novel is the ending. I like the ending

because both my favourite characters are alive and love overcomes hate, love

P1 The novel that I have studied is Moby Dick by Herman Melville. Moby Title : Novel

Dick tells the story of Captain Ahabs quest to kill a (1)________________ white Synopsis

P2 First of all, Ishmael lose his best friend and save by his belonging. In the

last three-day battle with the (4)_________________ Moby Dick, Captain Ahab and

his men face danger. Eventually they die after Moby Dick attack the ship and the

ship sinks while sucks all the men (5)_________________ including Queequeq.

Ishmael is sad to see his friend gone. He thinks he is going to drown too but

Queequeqs coffin save him. The coffin hits Ishmael from underneath. Ishmael

(6)__________________________ to it for two days before the Rachel save him. Like

Ishmael, I feel I lose a friend too when Queequeq dies.


P3 Next, the Pequod crew are (7)________________________ to see their family

before they die. The Pequod crew work hard to earn a living by getting the

whales fat to be sold as oil for money and (8)__________________ after Moby Dick.

This demanding work takes a long time on sea so they are unable to return

home as they like. They miss their family member as can be seen through

(9)_____________________, who often thinks of his wife and child at home. It is a sad

part when they die before they can meet their family for the last time.

P4 Last but not least, I pity Captain Ahab for losing his life because of a fish.

Ahab blames Moby Dick for (10)______________________ him that he lost one of his

leg. He offers his crew gold to catch Moby Dick. Sadly, in their final fight Ahab

and his crew except Ishmael lost their life. Moby Dick lifts him out of the boat

and breaks it. He also sinks the Pequod thus killing the crew as they sunk into

the sea. Again, it is a very sad moment when everyone dies for nothing because

of a revenge against a fish.

P5 To sum up, the saddest part in the novel is the ending. I like the ending

because I learnt of the characters sad moment like Ishmael losing his best

friend. In addition, the Pequods crew are unable to meet their family for the last

time and in the end they die for nothing because of their captain and a fish.
