BLANKING

FORCE= STRESS X AREA

SHEARING FORCE = SHEARING STRESS X Area of shearing
Max. Force= (0.7) (Ultimate strength) (Area of shearing)

Dpunch = D
D die = Dpunch + 2 C
C= (Mat. constant) X ( t)
Take Mat. Constant = 0.1
HOME WORK
Fig. ( ) shows 2mm plate sheared by Punch and Die of BLANKING operation. Do:
(1) Calculate the Punch and Die. Take clearance= 7% of thickness.
(2) Draw the operation (sheet, Punch and Die) with dimensions.
(3) Calculate the Maximum force required to blanking operation. Take: Ultimate strength 240 N/mm2.

DEEP DRAWING
Dpunch = d
D die = Dpunch + 2 C
C= (Mat. constant) X ( t)
Take Mat. Constant = 1.1

THE DIAMETER OF BLANK

HOME WORK
Fig. (4) shows Cup produced by DEEP DRAWING operation. Calculate the following:
(1) Punch and Die diameter. Take thickness (t) =2mm and clearance=( 1.1)x( t).
(2) The diameter of blank, assume thickness a constant during operation.

Q- 1 : Calculate the LENGTH of welds required for loading 120 KN as shown in Fig. ( ).
Take: Tensile strength of weld 330 N/mm2 and Factor of safety (F.O.S)=2
HINT: Force (N)= (0.707) x strength (N/mm2) x length (mm) x thickness (mm) / F.O.S
Q2- : Calculate the LENGTH of welds required for loading 120 KN as shown in Fig. ( ).
Take: Tensile strength of weld 360 N/mm2 and Factor of safety (F.O.S)=3

Q3 Calculate the THICKNESS of welds required for loading 100 KN mass as shown in Fig. (
).
Take: Tensile strength of weld 300 N/mm2 and Factor of safety (F.O.S)=2.5
