Oase 98 - Narrating Landscape

nai010 publishers 2017 ISBN 9789462083547 Acqn 27377
Pb 17x24cm 128pp col ills 21.95

'OASE 98' explores the historical foundation of the concept of narration in reading and designing
the urban landscape, in search of the relevance of narrative methods to todays practice. This
issue presents a new angle on the work of (landscape) architects and urban planners of the
1960s and 1970s (Edmund Bacon, Kevin Lynch, and Jacques Simon) and of today (Gnter Vogt,
Anke Schmidt, and Bas Smets), and sheds light on recent experiments in academia. 'OASE 98'
presents narration as a means with which to reposition design and the designer as a mediator
between the expert and the inhabitant, addressing issues such as bodily experience, sociospatial
fragmentation, and participation.

Shigeru Ban - Material, Structure And Space

Toto 2017 ISBN 9784887063655 Acqn 27462
Pb 19x25cm 400pp 550ills 500col 55.95

Shigeru Ban has earned much praise for his wide-ranging activities and innovative approach to
addressing contemporary problems through architecture and design, such as using recycled
cardboard tubes as a structural material to provide housing for disaster victims. Besides his
dedication to humanitarian efforts, Bans interest in materials expresses his minimalist ideology,
one that often leads him to choose existing materials and techniques over state-of-the-art
solutions. Ban was involved in selecting the more than 100 important works in this publication,
divided into five categories, that together reflect a clear departure from other architects of his
generation.

Ugo La Pietra - Other Cultures

Corraini Editore 2017 ISBN 9788875706609 Acqn 27823
Pb 17x24cm 60pp 55ills 25col 18

In the sixties and seventies, Ugo La Pietra's design research focused, following critical trends
which analysed the social and peripheral aspect of the urban space, on spontaneous material
cultures. In 'Other Cultures', his investigation focuses on a specific and circumscribed
environment, where architectural peculiarities are created spontaneously: Poetto beach in
Cagliari. The review, which consists of a photographic sampling of the summer beach
constructions, the "ville", dating back to 1978 and reveals a unique environment that has all but
vanished, a spontaneous architecture that observes a cohesive language. The wooden villas
along the beach in Cagliari are unique structures which form, as shown inside the book, a real
lost architectural alphabet.

A.Mag 2017 ISBN 9788469743553 Acqn 27886
Pb 24x24cm 208pp col ills 41.75

This instalment focuses on three Austrian practices that together symbolise an architecture that,
at its essence, remains mindful to the surrounding context. Featuring works on different scales
offering solutions to various functions and programmes, the projects represent a common ability
to bring together local materials, traditional practices, and contemporary forms. Most examples
are of smaller dimensions, with many being individual residences, and a number have been
produced on tight budgets and with restrictive sites or regulations. Through careful materialisation
and expression, each of these offices aptly demonstrates the strengths of Austrian architecture
today.
