I am writing to seek both your support and your vote for me,
Will Jenkinson, to serve as the next Vice President of The
Citadel Alumni Association. As a member of this Association,
you have the opportunity to cast a vote for this office, and I
would be proud to represent you.
I am blessed to come from a long gray line. As a fourth
generation graduate of our beloved institution, I learned very
early in my life the values and principles found when one passes
through the Lesesne Gates. My family's roots at The Citadel
date back to 1861 when my cousin G.E. Haynsworth fired upon
The Star of the West. In 1967, my father, Billy Jenkinson,
served as Golf Company First Sergeant when Charles Foster, the
first African American Cadet, entered the school. In 1995, I
entered the Citadel with Shannon Faulkner, the first female
cadet. I have a deep-rooted family history of connection to The
Citadel, and I am proud that my family has been supportive of
the growth and diversity that has occurred in our school. I
firmly believe that my history with The Citadel will help me
provide quality and sound service to our Alumni Association.
Since my graduation in 1999, I have been an advocate for The
Citadel not only in my talk but also in my walk. I have
consistently worked to serve different areas of The Citadel. For
the past 15 years, I have worked with the Trident Drive through
the Brigadier Foundation to help recruit and retain members to
support our athletic programs. Since 2009, I have served as the
Class of '99 chairman and co-chairman through The Citadel
Foundation. I was a founding board member of The Stray Dog
Society, and I have had the pleasure of chairing all three of the
Class of '99 Reunions. Most importantly, it has been my
pleasure to mentor personally over 50 cadets in the 18 years
since my graduation. As a Lowcountry resident, I have also
been fortunate to host eight cadets for semester internships. I
know that I can help lead our Alumni Association into the future
