Background and Program Information
ASEAN Youth Exploration is an exchange program funded by Innovative Thai-ASEAN

Academic Cooperation at Chulalongkorn University (ITACC@CU). The project was designed
to enhance mobility among ASEAN member countries on a balanced basis. The exchange
program requires that university partners (two countries) to be exchanged in the framework of
cooperation between Chulalongkorn University and Universities in ASEAN member
countries.
Southeast Asian region has been known for its flourishing source of civilizations. Since
prehistoric times, the region has been inhabited and evolved through interaction within and
between regions, while welcoming diverse cultures from the outside world. Culture, arts and
regions in Southeast Asia are thus unique and inimitable. As ASEAN has shown its
commitments to move towards a more integrated community by the year 2015, the ASEAN
Studies Center of Chulalongkorn University is cognizant of the promotion of ASEAN
awareness and a sense of community highlighted in ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community
Blueprint (ASCC).
This year was selected the theme ASEAN Youth Exploration: the Journey to Southeast Asia.
During nine days exchange, Chulalongkorn students will be given an opportunity to explore
and learn about ASEAN countries in different aspects: history, culture, arts, international
relations and economy through various activities organized by host university. The
programme aims to reflect the deepest values of cultures and traditions as well as enhance
cultural understanding and personal contacts through friendship and cooperation among
participants.

Exchange Period: 22 May 1 June 2013
Participants: 15 participants
Term of Funding:
A 11-day exchange program
Activities: - Lectures
- Meeting with DLSUs students
- Sightseeing
- Cultural activities
Provisions of the Funding:

The funding will cover the following:
1. An economy class round-trip ticket to and from designated capital cities or

principal cities
2. Local expenses and accommodation
Eligibility of Applicants:
1. The funding is open for Thai nationals enrolled at Chulalongkorn University

2. Applicants must have a good command in English.
3. Applicants must be in good health
Selection Criteria
The selection criteria consist of two rounds;

1) Short Essay Evaluation
2) Oral Interview Session
Essay Evaluation
Content 10 points
Creativity 10 points
Composition 10 points

Interview Session
Candidates are required to attend the interview session. The evaluation is assessed by;
1) Basic knowledge and point of study
2) Attitude and Manner
3) English Communication Skill
Documents Required for Application:
A. Completed application form

C. Copy of transcript (CR60)
D. Completed parental consent form
E. Copy of passport (Optional)
F. Copy of language proficiency test result (Optional)
Application Procedures:
1. Application documents are to be submitted to the ASEAN Studies Center of

Chulalongkorn University.
2. The completed application form and relevant documents must be received by
24 April 2013 at the address below. The information and application form can be

3. Shortlisted applicants will be announced on the above mentioned website within
29 April 2013 for an interview
4. The interview will be held on 2-3 May 2013
5. Successful applicants will be announced on 6 May 2013
Funding Conditions:
1. The funding period cannot be extended

2. The recipients are required to attend the orientation on 20 May 2013
3. The recipients are not permitted to bring any of their family members with them
4. The recipients are not permitted to postpone a period of travelling as proposed by
Chulalongkorn University.
5. The recipients are required to engage in the follow-up activities
Suspension and termination of funding:

The funding will be suspended or terminated for following reasons

1. Serious illness of recipients
The recipient is deemed to be seriously ill and not physically fit to carry on the
entire program.
2. Absence of recipients without notice or reasonable explanation.
3. Use of drugs and/or alcohol
