A crime is an act committed or omitted, in violation of a public law, either forbidding or

commanding it; a breach or violation of some public right or duty due to a whole community,
considered as a community. In its social aggregate capacity, as distinguished from a civil injury.

Here are the factors or elements to be considered as a crime

any crime has four basic elements that must be proven before someone can be
charged. The elements are 1.) Actus Reus (physical act), 2.) Mens Rea (mental state),
3.) Causation, and 4.) Social Harm.
Actus reus is the Latin term used to describe a criminal act. Every crime must be
considered in two parts-the physical act of the crime (actus reus) and the mental
intent to do the crime (mens rea). ... Actus reus is commonly defined as a criminal act
that was the result of voluntary bodily movement.

mens rea

guilty mind, the term used to describe the mental element required to constitute a crime.
Generally it requires that the accused meant or intended to do wrong or at least knew he was
doing wrong. However, the precise mental element varies from crime to crime.
That is to say that causation provides a means of connecting conduct with a resulting
effect, typically an injury
Zemiology gets its name from the Greek word z m a, meaning "harm".
It originated as a critique of criminology and the notion of crime. In contrast with
"individual-based harms" such as theft, the notion of social harm or social injury
incorporates harms caused by nation states and corporations.

Background:
Forensic Science is the application of science to those criminal and civil
laws that are enforced by police agencies in a criminal justice system. The focus of
Forensic Science is the Crime Lab, which uses the principles and techniques of Biology,
Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Anthropology and many other sciences in order to place
physical evidence into a professional discipline. Based on previous laboratory
experiences, students will solve a crime using their laboratory skills and knowledge.

Students should be able to observe and draw a crime scene, labeling the
evidence.
Students should be able to apply their previous course laboratory activities to
solve a crime.
A crime scene investigation is a systematic scientific endeavor.
The scientific method is required to solve a crime using chemical and biological
analyses.
Students should develop the abilities to do scientific inquiry.
Students should develop an understanding of scientific inquiry.
