4.5. Cable accessories

Cable connectors, - lugs, - joints, …. are an integral part of the cable system and have an impact on its

quality, security, reliability and lifetime.

This can only be guarantered by using customary and qualified products which are in accordance with

relevant standards.

4.6. Tests after installation, before commissioning of the system

In addition to the continuity test of every conductor and the checking of insulation resistance

(Megger), you should refer to the appropriate standards for further tests.

4.7. Cable damages

Visible cable damages and other irregularities should be reported immediately. Experts should then

evaluate the problem and decide on how to proceed (repair or replacement).

4.8. General guidelines for cable installation

- Priority shall be given to national, regional or customer-specific standards and directives.

- It is the responsibility of the designer or installer to make sure that the cable is suitable for its

particular application (core size, construction, installation method, current carrying capacity,…).

- The cable installation shall be designed, executed, supervised by duly qualified personnel. Only

suitable tools and machinery in perfect condition should be used.
