Anchorage Stevens Anchorage Intl ANC / PANC

CAT IIIB

THE FOLLOWING REGULATORY & ADVISORY NOTES ARE FOR PILOTS'

COMPLIANCE & GUIDANCE.

1. RESTRICTIONS

Airport Qualification
Category B

Land and Hold Short Operations

Pilots should not accept Land and Hold Short Operations (LAHSO)
instructions, as SQC does not have approval for LAHSO.

Runway 33 Minimum Climb Gradient

SIDs for Runway 33 require a minimum climb gradient of 400ft/nm up
to 3000ft AAL for traffic separation. The use of NADP 1 should be
considered in order to comply with this requirement.

2. HAZARD/DEFICIENCIES

Non-Standard RT Phraseology
ATC frequencies are frequently congested and non-STD RT
phraseology has been identified as a contributory factor for most RWY
incursions.
As such crew are to adhere strictly to STD RT phraseology. In case of
any ambiguity, crew shall clarify and ensure positive clearance prior to
proceeding.
Read-back clearances such as Hold-short, Line Up and wait clearly
and include the callsign.

R/W 7L/25R and R/W 15/33 Operations

These runways have a width of 46 meters. Crew are to note that the
runway aspect ratio (runway length relative to its width), affects the
crews visual perception of the runway and therefore might prevent
crew to initiate flare at the optimal height.

THE FOLLOWING REGULATORY & ADVISORY NOTES ARE FOR PILOTS'

COMPLIANCE & GUIDANCE.

Unreliable localizer on Rwy 07R

Several PIREPS from different operators have been received on the
unreliability of Rwy 07R localizer signal. Crew are advised to exercise
extra caution when conducting ILS approach on this runway. Any
abnormality should be reported to ATC.

Runway 15 Glideslope Angle

The glide-slope angle for ILS Runway 15 is 3.2 degrees, thus requiring
a higher than usual rate of descent.

Runway 07L Glideslope

There have been reports of a fluctuating glideslope on ILS approaches
to Rwy 07L. It has been noted that the signal stabilizes around 1000ft
AAL and successful autolands have been conducted.

High terrain to the East of the airport

Crew departing ANC towards the east should consider delaying their
acceleration from minimum clean speed or Max Angle to Econ Climb
speed until reaching Grid MORA found on Jeppesen page 10-1.

3. WEATHER

Fog can be expected between September and March.

Ceiling below 1000 feet and low visibility occur between November
and March.

Wind shear occurs when the surface wind differs widely from the
2000ft wind. A change from calm wind to a tailwind condition is very
common for runway 33 departures resulting in a subsequent loss of
airspeed at low altitude.

CAT IIIB

THE FOLLOWING REGULATORY & ADVISORY NOTES ARE FOR PILOTS'

COMPLIANCE & GUIDANCE.

Temperature inversions usually occur at approximately 1000 ft. These

temperature inversions have resulted in a loss of airspeed. Crew are
reminded to take the necessary precautions.

4. ATC

ATC may vector aircraft for high and fast approaches resulting in
unstabilised approaches in ANC. Bear in mind that ANC is still one of the
airports where most of the unstabilized approaches are recorded.

Startup Procedure for Parking Bays R12-R14

1. Call for departure clearance with ANC Clearance on 119.4.

2. When ready for engine start, coordinate with ground crew after
confirmation that the area behind the aircraft is clear.
3. After engine start, call ANC Ground on 121.9 for taxi clearance.
4. ACARS OUT time will coincide with TAXI time.

Use of Excess Thrust

Crew are reminded to submit a VR when using more than usual thrust,
or when requiring more thrust than 40% N1 during taxi.

5. APPROACH PLANNING AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT

FMC SETUP
Anchorage continues to feature as one of the stations with a high
number of unstable approaches. One of the causal factors has been
the Energy Management. To facilitate crew on Energy
Management, the following FMC set up is recommended for all flights
arriving from the SE. This FMC set up will give crew a pictorial display
on the ND which enhances SA. It represents a minimum track
miles to be flown and as such, it is very important not to turn short
or to accept a turn less than depicted on the ND.

THE FOLLOWING REGULATORY & ADVISORY NOTES ARE FOR PILOTS'

COMPLIANCE & GUIDANCE.

The recommended configuration at waypoint TULLI200/4 or

KANSY260/04 should be a minimum of Flap 10. This should ensure
an optimum energy managed profile and thus always achieving a
stable approach.

Visual Approaches should not be accepted to be flown with a final

approach less than 5 nm straight in, and not less than 7 nm straight in
for instrument approaches.

Target to be fully configured and stabilised LATEST by the Final

Approach Fix.
