BMI View: Pakistan is one of the largest relatively untapped devices markets left, where with the exception of
featurephones device ownership rates are still low and so there is considerable growth potential as incomes rise. There
will also be support from demographics, and improvements to the operating environment could also fuel growth. The
outlook is however subject to downside risk factors, including the dependence of the economic outlook on external
conditions, and domestic political and security threats that derail an otherwise positive outlook.
Computer Sales: From USD632mn in 2017 to USD733mn in 2021, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of
3.8%. The fact PC penetration trails smartphones makes for an uncertain outlook as mobile-first behaviour is
likely to become embedded and so weaken the potential growth trajectory of PC sales.
AV Sales: USD893mn in 2017 to USD1.1bn in 2021, a CAGR of 5.2%. An expanding middle class will fuel
flat-panel TV set upgrades, while existing owners will seek larger and higher resolution screens as well as
supporting audio equipment.
Handset Sales: USD2.9bn in 2017 to USD4.3bn in 2021, a CAGR of 10.4%. Import duty cuts add to an already
strong outlook as segment growth is expected to be maintained at a high level by the sustained flow of
smartphone first-time buyers.
