Introduction
Ariel 7.7.0.1 Software

Ariel ".run" files are backward compatible (older runs should always open)

New Program Features (Ariel 7.7.0.1):

Interface issues with the Database have been corrected

The Case Summary Column Graph now includes the ability to show two graphs, each having a
different variable, such as flow and power
Line pressures have been defaulted to zero (0) for new run files
Added a folder location selection for saving and recalling custom gas analyses, custom cylinders,
custom (pre-configured) packages

New Program Features (Ariel 7.7.0.0):

The cylinder and frame selection interface has been improved, adding a "ranking" feature that
better sorts and lists the equipment available based upon the operating conditions, selected
operating speed, number of stages and capacity
An Initial Compressor Selection feature has been added under the Select Frame drop down box
(on the Frame and Cylinder Data tab) allowing for a full initial compressor selection. The
operating conditions, target flow and number of stages selected will help define a complete initial
selection
An updated driver selection routine that includes filters and search functions to better help narrow
down the list of available drivers
A list of electric motor drivers has been added, allowing fixed speed or variable speed drivers to
be selected based upon design speed
The list of gas components has been expanded to include some of the less often selected
components, but that also do not require approval to apply
A more refined list of Application Type and Gas Type has been added to better define the market
and service the compressor will operate within. The Gas Type will create a better "first analysis"
estimate for the gas analysis screen
The floating windows, such as cylinder selection screen, case manager screen and package
manager screen can be docked on the screen or docked and pinned, along with the previous
feature of floating. This offers faster access to these commonly used screens
The JGF frame has been added to the JGC:D:F frame class with a 5.0 inch stroke for a higher rod
load rated 1400 rpm frame. The JGF shares the same frame, running gear and cylinder selections
as the JGC and JGD frames, with a shorter stroke crankshaft
The Ren oil level regulator has been removed from the list of available options
24 VDC versions of the DNFT and DNFT-PRG have been added to the list of no flow devices.
These allow 24 VDC power to be supplied to the device from the control panel in lieu of an
onboard battery
A higher pressure 3SG11-FS-CE tandem cylinder has been added with an MAWP of 5000 psi.
This cylinder will be coupled with the 1-3/4SG11-FS-HE 6100 psi MAWP cylinder
A higher pressure 1-1/2SG12-FS-HE cylinder has been added with an MAWP of 9000 psi. This
cylinder will be coupled with the 3SG11-FS-CE 5000 psi MAWP cylinder.
The 20-1/8x, 22x, 24-1/8x and 26-1/2x cylinders have been modified for a larger number of bolts
on the valve caps and larger shoulder on the piston rod. The cylinders will be designated 20-
1/8x10, 22x10, 24-1/8x10 and 26-1/2x10 (x represents the K, T, C, D, F, U, Z cylinder class

designations). The cylinder flange locations of these cylinders will remain unchanged, with
exception of the 24-1/8K10:T10 and 26-1/2K10:T10 cylinders
The electric motor driven cylinder lubricator option has been added to the list of available options
on the Frame Options screen.
The quantity of Crankcase Pressure Relief Valves on each frame size have been modified to meet
the flow area requirements of ISO-13631 and API-618
The JGE and JGT frame class have been modified to limit operation to 1400 rpm, unless specific
approval is provided
Cylinder clearances have been updated and the VE equation modified to provide most accurate
data and compressor performance predictions

New Program Features (Ariel 7.6.7):

Non-lube applications will be allowed within the sour level 1 category, hydrogen sulfide content
up to 2%. Sour non-lube applications will require the use of stainless steel piston rods and
stainless steel valves (100 ppm to 2%).
An Uncut Ring Technology option has been added to the cylinder options. This is a new pressure
packing ring design that results in lower packing ring temperatures for longer wear life, and lower
packing ring leakage. The larger frames will have this packing ring style standard, while smaller
frames will have this as an option.
The 20-1/8K:T:C:D:U:Z cylinder has been replaced with the 20-1/8x10 cylinder. The
replacement cylinder has been changed to allow a six bolt pattern on the valve caps, but offers
identical fit up (size and location) of the cylinder nozzles.
The High Temp Sight Glass option has been removed for sale with new units.
Added the ability to plot performance values against load steps in the multi-run function, placing
the load steps along the x-axis.

New Program Features (Ariel 7.6.6.3):

The new unit sales of the RG Rotary Screw Compressors will be suspended, effective with this
release. The RG compressors will remain in the performance software, but will be listed as
"inactive". Selection of the rotary screw products from the inactive list will set the frame as
existing equipment.
A recommended spare parts estimate tool has been added to the Order Details tab. This provides a
list of spare parts and an estimate of the start-up, consumable and insurance spares. This will also
facilitate the notification and ordering of spares during a complete unit order.
The Kenco Proximitor no flow device has been removed for sale with new units. The Whitlock
Proximitor provides a replacement of this device, with the same function and the addition of the
European area classification certifications. The Whitlock should default replace the Kenco when
updating files with the Kenco chosen. However, for older files, the DNFT may default.
Soleplates and shims for the frame and for the guide supports on the KBZ:U and KBB:V are made
available as an option on the Frame Options tab.
The 4-5/8K:T:C:D:Z:U-VS-H2S forged steel cylinders have been uprated from 3000 psi MAWP
to 4500 psi MAWP. The new cylinder will carry the 4-5/8C10-VS-H2S cylinder class
designation.
A case summary bar graph function has been added to the case summary to compare packages.
Right click on a cell in the column of interest in the Case Summary results and select Show
Column Data Graph. With the graph open, click on another column cell to view the graph of
another variable.

A flag has been added for higher levels of carbon monoxide. The CO flag will appear in red when
CO is present in non-lube applications. The CO flag will appear in blue when over 5% CO
content and discharge temperatures of 250 F are exceeded.
A flag has been added for initial suction condensates. When condensates at the initial suction of a
service reach 10%, the service will be flagged in blue to indicate potentially unexpected
condensate.
A function to define the default gas composition has been added for defining the make up of
gasses entered using the Specific Gravity. Click on the Gas Analysis box, then click on Select
Constituents. A different base gas composition can be used to provide the mix for an S.G. entered
gas. To set a gas constituents list as a default, go through the View / Properties / Service/Stage
menu.
An export fourier coefficient csv file without reciprocating weights has been added.
The Total Points count in the multi-run has been fixed when applying an rpm range.
The speed limitations on the larger JGD cylinders have been lifted, allowing 1200 rpm operation.

Previous Program Features (Ariel 7.6.6.0):

Modified the use of Catalog Order and Reconfiguration Order: Catalog Orders are used to
purchase fleet units if (and only if) performance conditions are unknown. Standard valves and
lube will be applied. Catalog Orders are also used to purchase loose cylinders, pockets, frames for
stock. Reconfiguration Orders are when loose cylinders, pockets and frames are purchased to be
applied to existing equipment with existing equipment serial numbers. Serial numbers for the
existing equipment are encouraged to be filled in so the aftermarket records can be maintained for
future assistance.

Reconfiguration Orders are encouraged to include performance conditions to verify new

equipment. An option to disable performance conditions for a Reconfiguration Order will be
available at the Submit to Ariel or Quotation function.

Catalog Orders with existing equipment serial numbers will be prompted to be changed to
Reconfiguration Orders.

ATEX certification and equipment requirements are required for units shipping into EU countries.
Multi-run has added the function to run selected cases through the multi-run loop. This allows for
expanded capabilities of applying changes in gas analysis, gas temperatures, pocket settings on all
stages.... The multi-run capabilities have also been expanded to allow Adjusted Runs or Range in
combination with Load Steps.

NOTE: This changes the Mulit-Run CSV File Format.

The phase envelope has been expanded to show hydrate formation envelope as well. Hydrates are
when the conditions are just right for water vapor to trap a "host" molecule, creating an ice like
crystalline structure. This may be damaging to equipment.
New flow units of MSCFD has been added to the list of flow units on the General Data tab
(thousands of standard cubic feet per day).
An option for Resettable Pin Indicators has been added for the cylinder lubrication block.
An option for a Whitlock proximity switch has been added to the cylinder lubrication no-flow
devices list.
Added new tandem cylinder classes to the JGM:N:P:Q for CNG service.

Added the Perf Reports and Adj Run Reports back into the Case Manager
Updated mass elastic data for many frames with new modeling techniques. The frames updated
include: JG:A:M:N:P:Q, JGJ/6, JGC:D, KBU:Z and KBB:V.
Rotary: New correlation model for performance predictions
Rotary: Application type list limited to Gathering, Air/Nitrogen, Fuel Gas Booster

Previous Program Features (Ariel 7.6.3.0):

Bridge Utility to convert older files in a directory to the new format. This will increase the speed
of opening older files by updating the format to the new release, but not updating the data, pricing
or selected options.
Added a "Reconfigured" status to the Configuration section on the General Data Tab. This allows
those that use the software for existing equipment and reconfiguring of existing equipment to
maintain the existing unit status while selecting new cylinders or unloaders.
Added an error / warning set point for a maximum rotative speed when applying larger bore
cylinders on heavy gas applications.
Added crankshaft weights to the Frame Data Sheet for maintenance lift weight.
Ariel has added a number designation to the cylinder model names to aid in distinction between
rating or physical differences in cylinders of like model names. This number designation is an
insignificant, incrementing digit used solely to differentiate when an uprated cylinder is not fully
interchangeable with another cylinder of the same model. An incremental number will be added
to new cylinders being uprated, beginning with the number 10. ie., the 12-3/8ZM pipeline cylinder
has been uprated from 1690 psig MAWP to 1935 psig MAWP. The uprated cylinder will be
named 12-3/8ZM10. With this numerical designation cylinders may not be interchangeable due to
several reasons including, but not limited to, bolting changes in the heads or valve caps, possible
changes to the valve body thickness, cylinder flange rating changes.

Recommendations:

Windows 7 includes some security restrictions on the usage of the C:\Program Files. This can
impact saving run files to the previous default location of C:\Program Files\Ariel\Data, as well as
saving multi-run csv files to this same location. In order to resolve this security issue, the Data
directory can be relocated to the My Documents directory. When doing so, also change the run
file locations under the View/File Locations/Run Files menu in the performance software.

Pricing Impact:

All products and options have been affected by a price change.

Changed the Rod Reversal limits on the JG:A:M:N:P:Q frames to error below 15% and 30
degrees (lowered from 25% and 30 degrees).
Increased the required pump flow rates for the RG compressors.

To obtain the accurate results when using this program:

Use a gas analysis wherever possible

Proper throw location of the cylinders is necessary for the program to check reciprocating weight
balance, side-by-side cylinder interference and proper crank effort vs. crank angle data, ie.,
torsional and acoustical data.
