Applicants must normally hold a relevant science or engineering degree or other equivalent
professional qualification or have equivalent experience gained in industry.
Digital Marketing
Designed in line with current industry practice to meet the growing demand for digital marketing
professionals, this programme gives you an opportunity to build a successful career in this fast-
growing global sector.

The MSc in Digital Marketing is now in Partnership with the Digital Marketing Institute (DMI).
Prospective applicants that will complete the MSc in Digital Marketing will have the opportunity to
receive an internationally and industry-recognised digital marketing qualification in addition to MSc
Digital Marketing upon completion and passing of a Pearson VUE exam, perfect for displaying on
your CV or LinkedIn profile.

The DMI is the global certification standard for digital marketing, certifying digital professionals in
over 60 countries and 5 continents across the globe.

Each course syllabus is validated by the DMIs esteemed Syllabus Advisory Council made up of
representatives from leading digital giants, including: Google, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Microsoft
and Ebay among others.

DMI courses are designed and refreshed to equip you with the latest and most in-demand digital
marketing skills needed to land your next role in todays digital driven economy.

There are three routes available :

International Events Management
Designed to accommodate the demand for talented, capable practitioners, the MSc i International
Events Management prepares you for a successful career in events management at home or abroad.
course content This new programme enables you to develop your practical, strategic and conceptual
understanding of the events sector within local, national and international contexts.

There are 530,000 people employed within the UK events sector. At a global level, nations the world
over are increasingly recognising the value of events as a major element of development strategies
and nation building projects with emerging economies such as Brazil (2014 FIFA World Cup, 2016
Olympics), Russia (2018 FIFA World Cup), China (2008 Olympics) and Qatar (2022 FIFA World Cup)
pursuing hosting rights for mega-events.

As events are increasingly recognised as a tool for stimulating economic development, the industry is
quickly professionalising and requires a growing number of graduates to form an educated, critically
informed workforce. The new UWS MSc in International Events Management is designed to meet
this demand.

Accredited by the Association for Project Management, the MSc in Project Management will give
you the necessary skills and confidence to guide and manage projects to successful completion; key
skills for employment in the field of, and associated fields of project management; and an enquiring,
analytical and creative approach to managing projects.

In every business, and in every industry, effective project management is essential. Project managers
plan and organise resources and people to ensure projects finish on time, within budget and meet
the requirements of the business. You will gain:

the necessary skills and confidence to guide and manage projects to successful completion
key skills for employment in the field of, and associated fields of, project management
an enquiring, analytical and creative approach to managing project

Industry practitioners will deliver lectures on key topics and there are also work-based
opportunities.

Direct entry to the MSc will require students to have completed a Pg Diploma in an appropriate
discipline or equivalent. Entry to the postgraduate programme (other than Masters direct) may be
open to holders of an HND or DipHE award in an appropriate discipline, or a professional
qualification accepted as of equivalent status and usually at least three years relevant experience.
Cultural Diplomacy and International Sport
course overview

The MA Cultural Diplomacy & International Sport is unique in its integration of knowledge of
international relations, cultural (and public) diplomacy with an in-depth critical treatment of sport.

The programme is delivered jointly by University of the West of Scotland in Paisley and the Institute
for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin. Students will attend the Paisley campus in trimester one before
studying in Berlin in trimester two.
course content

Although the MA Cultural Diplomacy pathway has some core features, students studying on each
pathway will also benefit from a degree of specialisation that will prepare them for a career in their
chosen area of events, sport or music.

Details of any placement, work-related, or work-based learning


Students will have the opportunity to participate in a work-related learning within core modules
delivered at ICD. They will also be able to choose a work experience credited module in Berlin for
additional credit.

Students on all three programmes within the framework will complete the following three common
20-credit modules:

Research Methods
History of Cultural Diplomacy
Future Trends in Cultural Diplomacy

These modules will provide students with a critical understanding of the history and contemporary
practice of cultural diplomacy, as well as future applications of the field.

Students on all three programmes will also deepen this understanding by studying either:

International Cases in Cultural Diplomacy


or
Soft Power, Hard Power & Smart Power; and
Nation Branding and Unilateral Cultural Diplomacy.

Waste and Resource Management
Accredited by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the MSc in Waste and Resource
Management prepares you for a career in the growing environmental and resource management
sector, where there is increasing global demand for skilled graduates.
course content

The global market in environmental goods and services is currently worth about 3 trillion. Global
investment attracted by green technologies for electrical power generation recently exceeded that
for coal and natural gas. This area is being actively promoted in the UK and Scottish context for
economic development.

The programme develops core skills in the management of resources, coupled with an
understanding of technologies that enhance the sustainable use of natural resources and minimise
the environmental impact of economic activities, exploiting value from industrial process by-
products and waste materials.

Our research-active academics are experienced in projects monitoring and assessing environmental
impacts, developing innovative treatment technologies and working with industry and business. We
have also been involved in support for and development of environmental policy and regulation in
the UK, the EU and internationally.

The Postgraduate Diploma comprises six taught modules. All MSc candidates undertake a research
project/ dissertation in Trimester 3.

For the Postgraduate Diploma, applicants must normally hold a relevant science or engineering

Applicants who have previously completed a Postgraduate Diploma in an appropriate discipline may
be admitted at an appropriate stage.
