    Theperiodictablenowhasitsseventhrowcompletedwiththeintroductionoffournewchemicalelements.

    Theelements113,115,117and118,discoveredbyscientistsinJapan,RussiaandUSarethefirsttobe
    addedtothetablesince2011,whenelements114and116wereadded.

    RussianchemistDmitriMendeleevproducedthefirsttrueiterationofthetablein1869.Thenewadditions
    wereformallyverifiedbytheInternationalUnionofPureandAppliedChemistry(Iupac)on30December,
    2015.

    ThebodyannouncedthatateamofRussianandAmericanresearchershadprovidedsufficientevidence
    toclaimthediscoveryofelements115,117and118,theBBCNewsreported.

    JapaneseteamattheRikenInstitutewasawardedcreditforthediscoveryofelement113bytheIupac.

    Thechemistrycommunityiseagertoseeitsmostcherishedtablefinallybeingcompleteddowntothe
    seventhrow.Iupachasnowinitiatedtheprocessofformalisingnamesandsymbolsfortheseelements,
    saidProfessorJanReedijk,presidentoftheinorganicchemistrydivisionofIupac.

    Theteamsresponsibleforthediscoverieshavebeeninvitedtocomeupwithpermanentnamesand
    chemicalsymbolsforthenowconfirmedelements.Theproposednamesandsymbolswillbecheckedby
    theinorganicchemistrydivisionofIupacforconsistency,translatabilityintootherlanguages,possibleprior
    historicuseforothercases.

    Newelementscanbenamedafteramythologicalconcept,amineral,aplaceorcountry,apropertyora
    scientist.Afterdivisionalacceptance,thenamesandtwolettersymbolswillbepresentedforpublicreview
    forfivemonths,beforethehighestbodyofIupac,theCouncil,willmakeafinaldecisiononthenamesof
    thesenewchemicalelementsandtheirtwolettersymbolsandtheirintroductionintotheperiodictable.
