CHECKLIST FOR SCAFFOLDING

5 Are scaffold structures having a solid base
avoiding pavements and manhole covers etc.
6 Is the scaffolding structures free from excavation
pit / proper distance is maintained.

8 Are ties for scaffold structure properly
maintained (vertical as well as horizontal
position)
9 Is there a provision of toe boards / guardrails
and are they secured.
10 Whether planks used for working platforms are
wooden / metallic.
11 If wooden plank, whether thickness is
maintained as per standard or not, viz.
a. For 1.5M span -1.5 thick/b. for 2.6M span
-2.0 thick
12 Is there a system of inspecting the scaffolds by a
competent person atleast once a week and also
every prolonged interruption in the work?
13 Is there a system of inspecting materials of
scaffolds in each occasion before erection?
14 Is there a system of inspecting scaffolds at every
spell of bad weather / heavy wind condition?
15 Is overhanging of working platform restricted to
less than 50mm / 4 times the thickness of he
board?
16 Is awareness of workmen on the importance of
load distribution on a given working platform
palpable?

17 Is there a check for condition and correct usage

of fittings for scaffolds?
18 Is the width of working platform properly
maintained according to usage, viz?
Minimum 600mm of footing only and not
for
deposits of material.
Minimum 800mm of footing and deposits

19 Are all the materials stored on the platforms
properly secured or not?
20 Whether planks are tied using proper binding
wire.
21 Are openings in working platform kept safely
covered / fenced?
22 Do wheels used for scaffold tower of appropriate
SWL with locking arrangements?
23 Are mobile scaffolds used on the firm and level
surface?
24 Does the height of mobile scaffolds exceed 4
times the smaller base dimension?
25 Are all materials stock on the platform properly
secured while in motion?
26 Is the safety rule:
Not to ride on scaffold while in motion, violated.
27 Is there a system of checking the obstruction
before the tower is moved.
28 Is there an access tower exceeding 9.6mm free-
standing without support.
29 Are suitable / correct lifting tackles (wire-
ropes/chains/shackles) selected for suspension
and used.
30 Are all the suspension is correctly spaced and
connected?
31 Is there a system of using manila rope/coir rope
for suspension at any place where such rope
could be liable to damage by heat/flames/sharp
edges, etc.
32 Are all precautionary measures taken to prevent
contact between arc welding apparatus and
suspension ropes.
