Overview of Siebel eBusiness Analytics
Purpose

Purpose 1

Siebel eBusiness Analytic Applications provide managers and executives with the
power to measure and evaluate business performance across customers, products,
sales, marketing, and service. From the CEO reviewing the state of the business to
the service manager reviewing the state of customer satisfaction, Siebel eBusiness
Analytics enables users to analyze and improve operational execution. Siebel
eBusiness Analytic Applications include:

Siebel eIntelligence. Siebel eIntelligence provides analyses for strategic insight

into customers' preferences, interaction patterns, and behavior. This includes a
library of prebuilt reports for sales, marketing, and service users and ad-hoc
querying capabilities. Out-of-the-box analyses cover these key categories
(licenses for each category can be purchased separately):

Marketing analyses for customer segmentation and to assess the effect of

marketing programs.

Sales analyses to track forecasts, revenue, competitors, and channel

performance.

Service analyses to monitor product quality, customer service, and

satisfaction.

Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse. Siebel eBusiness Analytic Applications use

the underlying, prebuilt Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse, a unified data
repository for all customer, sales, service, product, and marketing data. The
Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse includes:

A data integration engine that combines data from Siebel eBusiness

Applications, other operational systems, and enterprise data warehouses.

An open architecture to allow organizations to use third-party analytical tools

in conjunction with the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse.

Prebuilt data extractors to incorporate data from external applications into

the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse.

Overview of Siebel eBusiness Analytics
Third-Party Products

Third-Party Products 1

Siebel eBusiness Analytics uses third-party products from Informatica and

BusinessObjects. Informatica extracts, transforms, and loads legacy, relational, and
ERP data into the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse. The load process builds a series
of star schemas in the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse, which are represented as
universes in BusinessObjects.

BusinessObjects can attach to these star schemas and display reports and graphs.
Siebel eBusiness Analytics is a front-end application that provides the definitions of
predefined reports to BusinessObjects, which then extracts data from the specified
universes and displays it within Siebel eBusiness Analytics. To the end user, the
reports appear to be created by Siebel eBusiness Analytics. On each report there is
a button named Launch Power Query, which provides access to a BusinessObjects
client application. Power Query is a user-level synonym for BusinessObjects.

This document uses brand-name terms for some of the third-party products.
Table 1-1 provides a list of these terms.

Server and Client Configuration 1

Siebel eBusiness Analytics requires software installed on your server machines.

Many of the components may be located on the same server machine; however,
Siebel eIntelligence Enterprise Server products (WebIntelligence) and Siebel
eIntelligence Desktop products should not reside on the same computer.

If desired, you can install each component on a separate server machine; however,
Siebel Systems strongly recommends that the nodes communicate over a dedicated
network to cope with the extra network traffic.

NOTE: Installation on a Windows NT Primary Domain Controller or Backup Domain

Controller is not supported (see Siebel Global Deployment Guide for more details).

Overview of Siebel eBusiness Analytics
Requirements

Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse Requirements 1

The Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse is an OLAP database that holds the star
schemas created by Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse Server and read by Siebel
eBusiness Analytics and Siebel eIntelligence. This database can be DB2 or Oracle.

NOTE: The user name and password for the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse must
be the same as for the Siebel Transaction Database. If they are not the same, you
will not be able to view the exception reports after building the Siebel eBusiness
Data Warehouse. This affects your ability to troubleshoot build problems.

DB2 Requirements
The following requirements apply to DB2 RDBMS usage:

IBM DB2 UDB for Windows NT, v6.1.

ODBC driver for all connections must use the IBM DB2 ODBC Driver.
Make the appropriate connections using DB2 Client Configuration Assistant.
All tablespaces (including System) should be of 16/32K page size and they
should be database-managed.

Datafile size must be at least 50% of Siebel Transaction Database size.

One login user needs to be created in an empty database. The database objects
will be created using this user login.

Make sure that isolation level is cursor stability.

Set the following parameters (read DB2 Database Configuration Guide).
 locklist - 5,000

 maxlock - 50

 applheapsz - 2,560

 logfilsiz - 2,500

 logprimary - 5

 logsecond - 20

1-12 Siebel eBusiness Analytics Installation and Administration Guide Version 6.3, Rev. A

Requirements

Oracle Requirements
The following requirements apply to Oracle RDBMS usage:

 Oracle 8.1.6.
Make the appropriate connections using Oracle Net8 Assistant.

NOTE: ODBC drivers for connections to the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse are
different for the eBusiness Data Warehouse Server machine and Web/Analysis
Server machine. The drivers are included as part of the installation package.

The user accounts that access the database must have SSE_ROLE and be set
so that the ddl commands can be run (permissions to create tables).

The database should be created with the maximum allowable DB_BLOCK_SIZE

parameter.

Tablespace for Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse should be at least 50% of Siebel
Transaction Database size. Default Pctincrease should be zero. Default Initial
and Next extent size should be 20M.

Create a login user with the above mentioned tablespace as the default
tablespace. The database objects will be created using this user login.

The temporary tablespace should have adequate space.

Set the following DB parameters (read Oracle Database Configuration Guide):
 db_file_multiblock_readcount, db_file_direct_io_count,
sort_multiblock_read_count should have high value.

 Sort_area_size = 10M.

Overview of Siebel eBusiness Analytics
Planning the Installation

Planning the Installation 1

Before installing Siebel eBusiness Analytics, you should plan the installation using
the information provided in this document and in documents from third-party
suppliers.

NOTE: There is no upgrade path from previous versions to the 6.3 version.

The recommended installation designates four computers, but this quantity needs
to be adjusted based on availability of computers and the volume of work they must
handle.

The Administrator Workstation 1

In a standard installation, the Siebel Server machine has the BusinessObjects

Designer and Supervisor applications and the eBusiness Data Warehouse Server
machine has the Informatica Client application. The Administrator Workstation has
copies of the BusinessObjects Designer and Supervisor applications and the
Informatica Client application. These applications are copied to the Administrator
Workstation to provide convenient access to them. In some companies, all server
machines are kept in locked rooms with restricted access. The Administrator
Workstation can be located in a private or public workspace away from the secure
server room, providing easy access.

The Administrator Workstation is optional, but strongly recommended. Typically

you would install these applications on the existing workstation of the person who
is to take on the designer role. You do not need to obtain a computer solely
dedicated to being an Administrator Workstation. A dedicated computer is
preferred, but not required.

The Siebel Server Machine 1

Your company may have one or multiple Siebel Server machines. When you install
Siebel eBusiness Analytics, you need to install software onto one of your existing
Siebel Server machines. You should not install onto more than one Siebel Server
machine.

1-14 Siebel eBusiness Analytics Installation and Administration Guide Version 6.3, Rev. A
Overview of Siebel eBusiness Analytics
Planning the Installation

The Web/Analysis Server Machine 1

Depending upon the number of concurrent users who will be accessing Siebel
eBusiness Analytics reports, you may need one or multiple Web/Analysis Server
machines. Each Web/Analysis Server machine should be dedicated to running
BusinessObjects WebIntelligence. Consult the BusinessObjects WebIntelligence
System Administrators Guide.

The eBusiness Data Warehouse Server Machine 1

The eBusiness Data Warehouse Server machine builds the Siebel eBusiness Data
Warehouse. Depending upon your business needs, you might build the Siebel
eBusiness Data Warehouse once a day, once a week, once a month, or other similar
scheduling. When the computer is building the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse,
Siebel Systems recommends that the computer be dedicated to that activity.
However, when it is not building the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse you can use
it for other purposes. Companies that rebuild daily most likely would prefer that the
eBusiness Data Warehouse Server machine be dedicated to that purpose.
Companies that rebuild monthly most likely would prefer that the computer to be
shared with other applications and server software.

You can install the BusinessObjects Web Intelligence software on the eBusiness
Data Warehouse Server machine, effectively combining the eBusiness Data
Warehouse Server machine and Web/Analysis Server machine together. To combine
them, you must meet the following conditions:

The computer must meet the requirements for both the eBusiness Data
Warehouse Server machine (The eBusiness Data Warehouse Server Machine
on page 1-15) and the Web/Analysis Server machine (The Web/Analysis Server
Machine on page 1-15).

If you have multiple Web/Analysis Server machines, install the eBusiness Data
Warehouse Server machine components on only one of the Web/Analysis Server
machines.

Before running the build process (Informatica), you must make sure that no
clients are accessing Siebel eBusiness Analytics reports or any BusinessObjects
components. When no one is accessing BusinessObjects, stop the
WebIntelligence service. When the build completes, you can restart the
WebIntelligence service.

9 Check the log file. SetupAnalysisDW.exe creates a log file named

smdblog.txt. Open the log file. The log file may contain the word error in
many places and it is not always an indication of an installation failure. Rather
than try to read every line in the log file, there are a few key places to look for
error messages.

The installation consists of several distinct phases. Each phase begins with a
three-line separator that looks like this:
...
TEXT IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS
...

Look at the text immediately above the separator to see if the previous phase
completed successfully. Look at the text immediately after the separator to see
if the connections to the database were successful. Generally the phase does
NOT indicate a successful connection, but does indicate if the connection failed.
If you do not find any error messages in the first five lines after the separator,
then the database connection was successful.

Before installing the software on the client computers, make sure you add a user
account into Siebel eBusiness Analytics for each client user. In BusinessObjects,
create an account that has the same user name and password as the users Siebel

BusinessObjects prompts the client user to log in.

NOTE: The client user may sometimes get the login prompt if several hours have
lapsed between accessing reports and graphs (for example, if the client starts a
session one day and comes in the next morning to resume work). BusinessObjects
logs out any account that has not had recent activity. The client user should log in

Administration Procedures 7

From the server point of view, Siebel eBusiness Analytics has only two procedures.
They are:

Adding New Client Users on page 7-7

Populating the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse 7

Siebel eBusiness Analytics uses data that resides in the Siebel eBusiness Data
Warehouse. This data warehouse is populated by the Siebel eBusiness Data
Warehouse Server, which draws its data from the Siebel Transaction Database. To
refresh the data in the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse, you can do an initial build
(read To do a Complete (Initial) Build) or a subsequent build (read To Do a
Single Subsequent Build). An initial build completely rebuilds the Siebel eBusiness
Data Warehouse. Usually you only do an initial build once upon installing Siebel
eBusiness Analytics, and once after extending the star schemas. Typically you do a
subsequent build on a repeating basis, such as once a week or once a month,
depending upon your business needs.

7-2 Siebel eBusiness Analytics Installation and Administration Guide Version 6.3, Rev. A
Administration and Troubleshooting
Administration Procedures

Siebel eBusiness Analytics has placed four predefined batch processes into the
Server Manager. Table 7-1 lists them and provides a description.

Table 7-1. Batch Processes

Batch Name Description

bs2_DM_BUILD_INITIAL Truncates the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse and then loads with data
extracted from the Siebel Transaction Database.

Bs2_DM_BUILD_SUBSEQUENT Loads the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse but does not truncate the
following fact tables:
 Opportunity Product
 Service Request
 Person
 Activity
 Response
For these fact tables, the data loads only after the specified refresh date
(see subsequent load usage). The remaining tables are truncated and
reloaded.

bs_XCPTN_REPORTS_OLAP This produces an exception report, checking for data integrity of the Siebel
eBusiness Data Warehouse. This should be run once after a build. When
this batch process completes, you can view the results in Siebel eBusiness
Analytics Data Mart Administration screen.

bs_XCPTN_REPORTS_OLTP This produces an exception report, checking for data integrity of the Siebel
Transaction Database. This can be run either before or after a build. When
this batch process completes, you can view the results in Siebel eBusiness
Analytics Data Mart Administration screen.

To do a Complete (Initial) Build

1 Make sure the Informatica service is up and running. (Check the Services control
panel.)

2 Run the Informatica Server Manager and connect to the repository using the
Administrator account.

3 (Optional, but recommended) Right-click the batch named

bs_XCPTN_REPORTS_OLTP and start it. When it completes, view the results in
Siebel eBusiness Analytics Data Mart Administration screen. If the reported
exceptions are not fixed on Siebel Transaction Database, the Siebel Data
Warehouse load process may not be successful and the data may not be correct.

4 Right-click on the batch named bs2_DM_BUILD_INITIAL and start it.

5 Monitor the load process. For information on monitoring, read Informaticas
Administrator Guide.

6 If the load process fails, stop it by right-clicking the batch name

(bs2_DM_BUILD_INITIAL) and choosing Stop. Check the log and fix the
problem.

7 After fixing the problem, find the last entry of s2_restart next batch # before
the failed session, and restart the batch process from that point. Continue
monitoring the load process.

8 (Optional, but recommended) Right-click the batch named

bs_XCPTN_REPORTS_OLAP and start it. When it completes, view the results in
Siebel eBusiness Analytics Data Mart Administration screen.

9 Using Broadcast Agent, schedule your documents to be run on the Web/Analysis

Server machine. This updates the reports and graphs in the BusinessObjects
Repository with the new information.

To Do a Single Subsequent Build

Once the Initial load has completed, you can do an incremental (subsequent) build.
This saves time because only some of the tables are truncated and reloaded. The
Subsequent build extracts only data modified or created after a specified date. You
specify the date using Siebel eBusiness Analytics.

1 In Siebel eBusiness Analytics, choose Screens Application Administration

System Preferences.

NOTE: Make sure all your mobile users have synchronized their data before
running a build; otherwise, the build will not contain their data.

Administration and Troubleshooting
Administration Procedures

2 Find the SME Analysis Refresh variable. Set its value to the earliest date you
want extracted. The format of the value is YYYYMMDD. Thus, a date of
February 14, 2001 would be represented by 20010214. Siebel Systems
recommends that you select a date that is one day earlier than your previous
build. Example: If your last build was on March 8, 2001, then set the SME
Analysis Refresh variable to March 7, 2001. This slight overlap makes sure you
do not miss any data values.

3 Switch to a different view to save the variables value.

4 Make sure the Informatica service is up and running. (Check the Services control
panel.)

5 Run the Informatica Server Manager and connect to the repository using the
Administrator account.

6 (Optional, but recommended) Right-click the batch named

bs_XCPTN_REPORTS_OLTP and start it. When it completes, view the results in
Siebel eBusiness Analytics Data Mart Administration screen. If the reported
exceptions are not fixed on Siebel Transaction Database, the Siebel Data
Warehouse load process may not be successful and the data may not be correct.

7 Right-click the batch named bs2_DM_BUILD_SUBSEQUENT and start it.

8 Monitor the load process. For information on monitoring, read Informaticas
Administrator Guide.

9 If the load process fails, stop it by right-clicking the batch name

(bs2_DM_BUILD_SUBSEQUENT) and choosing Stop. Check the log and fix the
problem.

10 After fixing the problem, find the last entry of s2_restart next batch # before
the failed session, and restart the batch process from that point. Continue
monitoring the load process.

11 (optional, but recommended) Right-click the batch named

bs_XCPTN_REPORTS_OLAP and start it. When it completes, view the results in
Siebel eBusiness Analytics Data Mart Administration screen.

12 Using Broadcast Agent, schedule your documents to be run on the Web/Analysis

Server machine. This updates the reports and graphs in the BusinessObjects
Repository with the new information.

You can schedule the subsequent builds to occur at specific intervals, such as once
a week or once a month. Make sure to update the SME Analysis Refresh variable
after each build. If you leave the SME Analysis Refresh variable untouched, the
same data may be loaded more than once.

Troubleshooting Hints

Troubleshooting Hints 7

This section is not arranged in any specific order. Please read the whole section.

Problem. Error: ORA-12541: TNS:no listener

Possible cause. Check compatibility tab in Informatica service configuration. It
should be Oracle 8. If it is not set to Oracle 8, change it and restart the Informatica
server.

Problem. When installing the client software, you get this message: Error extracting
support files
Possible cause. This occurs on Windows 2000 only. Click OK to dismiss the error
message and continue with the installation as normal.

Problem. Cannot connect to Siebel Transaction Database from Informatica

Possible cause. Make sure that the server running the Informatica Server software
has an ODBC connection to the Siebel Transaction Database using a Siebel ODBC
driver, and an ODBC connection to the Siebel eBusiness Analytics Data Warehouse
using the Merant Closed 3.5 32-bit driver.

Problem. Cannot connect to Siebel eBusiness Analytics Data Warehouse running on

DB2.
Possible cause. Make sure that the DB2 configuration matches the requirements
listed in DB2 Requirements on page 2-6.

Problem. Log in prompt appears for BusinessObjects when you click Launch Power
Query.
Possible cause #1. If this is a new installation, the user does not yet have an account
with BusinessObjects. To fix this, create an account in BusinessObjects that has the
same account name and password as the users account in Siebel eBusiness
Analytics.
Possible cause #2. If the user has accessed Power Query successfully before, then
most likely the session timed out. BusinessObjects requires that you log in again to
start a new session.

Problem. Every time you click Launch Power Query a prompt tells you that the
report already exists.
Possible Cause. This is normal. BusinessObjects checks to see if the report you are
opening already exists on your computer. Click Yes to proceed with opening the new
report.

Version 6.3, Rev. A Siebel eBusiness Analytics Installation and Administration Guide 7-9
Administration and Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting Hints

Problem. Error when trying to save a BusinessObjects report back to the repository
through the Siebel client.
Possible cause. The filesystem setting in your market.cfg is either invalid (does not
exist) or you do not have write permissions to the directory. This error occurs when
an attempt is made to put the report pdf file in compressed form in the Siebel
filesystem if it is invalid.

Problem. When you run Bs2_DM_BUILD_INITIAL or

Bs2_DM_BUILD_SUBSEQUENT on the Informatica Server Manager you get the
following error message:
Request to start batch (batch name) on server (server name) not successful.
Probable cause. This can happen due to a server time-out property that is usually set
to 20 or 40 seconds. When you try to run a large batch, every session in that batch
is fetched into the server's memory. If this takes longer than the server time-out
property, the server returns a message that the batch was unable to run. However,
the batch runs, but the server just needs time to complete fetching the sessions into
memory.

Problem. When using the Power Query Analytic Adapter with Siebel Marketing, the
Load process encounters an error.
Possible cause #1. This can be due to a faulty BusinessObjects installation. On the
Primary Computer, look in the Sea630\Siebsrv folder and open
pqflatfilegen.trc. Look for an entry like this: Looking For Authentication
'BOMain.key' At: \BOMain.key. If there is a full path name before the term
\BOMain.key, then BusinessObjects has been set up correctly. If the entry is like
the previous sample and lacks a full path name, you need to uninstall
BusinessObjects and reinstall it.
Possible cause #2: If the query you built includes information from the Promotions
universe, then edit pqflatfilegen.bat in the Sea630\Siebsrv folder. In that
batch file, temporarily remove the terms Accounts.Account Id and
Contacts.Contact Id, insert the term Contact.Contact Id (note in this term
Contact is singular), and rerun the Load process. Remember to restore those
terms when the Load completes.

Problem. Error 2140 (Informatica service failed to start).

Possible causes. The server may not be started or the Informatica Service may not
be started. Refer to the Informatica Installation and Configuration Guide for detailed
information.

Guidelines for Extending the Siebel eBusiness Data

Warehouse 8

You can add more fields to the star schemas in the Siebel eBusiness Data
Warehouse, and also to the universes available in BusinessObjects. The following
guidelines provide the basic steps for this process. For assistance, contact Technical
Support.

Any changes you make to the star schemas and universes in Siebel eBusiness
Analytics V6.3 will not be preserved when you upgrade to the next version. Siebel
Systems, Inc. intends for future versions to be able to preserve changes when
upgrading. Before making any changes, make sure you document all changes in
sufficient detail so you can reimplement them in the next version.

Before you attempt to extend the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse, make sure you
are competent with Informatica and BusinessObjects. Both companies offer courses
on their products to supplement their formal documentation. The guidelines
provided here assume you are competent with the third party tools and your
relational database.

Identifying Fields 8

Determine which source fields in the Siebel Transaction Database and other
databases hold the information you need. For each source field, note its name, table,
and data type.

Select Universes and Star Schemas 8

For each source field, determine which Business Objects universes the data should
go into. You can map one source field into multiple universes. You can also process
(transform) several source fields to yield a single calculated field. Next, determine
which star schemas support the selected universes.

Design the ETL Process 8

Using Informatica PowerCenter Client Designer, add the source fields into the
Source definitions, transform them as needed (calculations and so on), and put
them into their appropriate targets (universes). Remember to save the repository.

Add Fields to Tables 8

If you have added fields to any Informatica targets, make sure to add the
corresponding columns to the tables in your relational database.

Rebuild the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse 8

Run an initial build to completely populate the Siebel eBusiness Data Warehouse.

Add the Fields into the Universes 8

Using BusinessObjects Designer, add the new fields into their universes.
