STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE WI-35
DEPARTMENT: PROCESSING DATE REV. NO SUPERCEDES PAGE NO.

ISSUER: GREG VOLOSHENKO APPROVED BY: JASON PODEWILS
PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR PRODUCTION MANAGER

PURPOSE: To establish and maintain a documented procedure for cleaning a flooring adhesive mixer

SCOPE: This procedure applies to qualified personnel operating a flooring adhesive mixer
RESPONSIBILITIES: See WI-24, section 3.0

PROCEDURE:

1. Prior to Cleaning
1.1. Confirm adhesive processing schedule for the following week to determine if draining
of S-1040 and S-1029 recirculation is to proceed through packaging pump or if the
pump is to remain primed with material (see section 5.0)
1.2. Drain mixer of material, set aside any material with non-conforming specific gravity
1.3. Inspect S-1040 and S-1029 inventories, including S-1040 wash and S-1029-P drums.
Confirm suitability of solvents with processing supervisor prior to loading
1.4. Vacuum mixer for loading solvent; lock under vacuum prior to loading solvent to
prevent contamination of vacuum system

2. Loading S-1040
2.1. Once S-1040 of suitable quality has been found, ground and vacuum loading 140.0 kg of
S-1040 through the bottom 2 valve with low-speed blades on at 1. Mix for 15 minutes
2.2. Lockout mixer and scrape blades and walls free of material. Once scraped, mix for an
additional 10 minutes with low-speed blades on at 1
2.3. Drain S-1040 into grounded, labelled open-head S-1040 wash drums through the
packaging pump. Ensure all S-1040 has been thoroughly drained. Once drained,
vacuum mixer for S-1029 addition and lock under vacuum

3. S-1029 Recirculation
3.1. Once S-1029 of suitable quality has been found, ground and vacuum load a minimum of
200.0 kg of S-1029 to the mixer through the top 2 charge valve with high-speed and
low-speed blades on at 1
3.2. Once loaded, release vacuum and connect solvent-resistant hoses from the outlet of
the packaging pump to the top 2 charge valve
3.3. Verify the manway lid, vacuum valve and dry air valves are shut. Begin recirculating S-
1029 through the packaging pump for 60 minutes
3.4. Lockout the mixer and lift the blades. With ventilation at the vessel, begin scraping the
mixer blades, walls, hatch and roof free of cured material until clean
3.5. Disconnect and cap the packaging pump and the bottom valves on the mixer. Connect
the diaphragm pump to the bottom 2 fitting with solvent resistant hose

3.6. Drain S-1029 into grounded open-head drums labelled for S-1029-P, indicating the
number of time the S-1029 has been used for cleaning

4. Emptying the Mixer

4.1. Wipe and rinse any remaining S-1029 at the bottom of the mixer, ensure the vessel is
completely dry
4.2. Disassemble and clean the bottom valve. Place all valve components into a labelled
container beneath the mixer
4.3. Lower the mixer blades and attach ventilation to the top 2 valve. Allow the mixer to
vent until no S-1029 odor is detected

5. Packaging Pump Bypass Pump Remains Primed with Material

5.1. Before loading S-1040, disconnect and cap the packaging pump and bottom mixer
fittings
5.2. Load S-1040 as per section 2.0
5.3. Insert a small, 1500 micron filter into diaphragm pump filter housing. Connect solvent
resistant hose from mixer bottom 2 fitting to pump. Drain S-1040 into grounded,
labelled open-head S-1040 wash drums. Ensure all S-1040 has been thoroughly
drained. Once drained, vacuum mixer for S-1029 addition and lock under vacuum.
5.4. Proceed to cleaning as per section 3.0, using the diaphragm pump for recirculation in
place of the packaging pump
