Giving practical examples in your organization or a project of your choice, discuss how you have applied
the two schedule compressions techniques. In your discussion indicate the strength and weakness of
each schedule compression technique.(30)

a. Work Breakdown structure (WBS) is a fundamental tool in project time management. With
reference to a project of your choice discuss how useful is a WBS in project time
management.(15)
b. During the development of the Project Management Plan session, one of your project team
members stands up and said, Excuse me the Project Manager why are we wasting time on doing
network diagrams, Gantt charts and milestones. As a Project Manager may you explain to your
project team members the relevance of the network diagrams, Gantt charts and milestones (15)

Practical 1

Choose any project of your choice and do the following:

(a) Write a brief introduction and background of the project (2 pages typed)
(b) Develop a work breakdown for the project (not less than 3 levels)
(c) Identify at least 10 activities for the project and indicate the duration for each activity.
(d) Draw a table showing the sequencing of the activities and duration of each activity.
(e) Using the table in (d), draw a network diagram and do the forward and backward pass hence
show the critical path.
(f) Calculate the slack of activities that doesnt lie along the Critical Path.
