Course Description
Organization of basic financial management functions and principles for business;
management of fixed and working capital; short-term and long-term financial planning
through investment and financing decisions; domestic and international money and capital
markets; ethical issues relating to business financial management.

Required text and materials


1. Ross, Westerfield & Jordan, Fundamentals of Corporate Finance w/connect, 11th ed.,
2015, McGraw-Hill/Irwin. Please check D2L shell for the class to get more details
about buying options for the textbook.
2. A financial or programmable with functions for financial mathematics calculator is
required for this course.
3. Microsoft Excel (Financial Functions of Microsoft Excel)

Course Objectives: This course addresses the following PLLGs

PLLG 1. Approach business challenges from an interdisciplinary perspective.


PLLG 2. Apply problem solving skills to complex challenges representative of those facing
the business community.

After completing the course, students should be able to:


1. Identify a pattern of cash flow and apply relevant time value of money technique to
solve the problem.
2. Value common stocks, preferred stocks, and bond securities.
3. Evaluate projects using widely used techniques such as Net Present Value, Internal
Rate of Return, and Payback Period.
4. Articulate why diversification can enhance return without increasing risk.
5. Compute the weighted average cost of capital (WACC) of a publicly-traded company.
6. Prepare long-term financial plan as well as short-term cash budget for a firm.
7. Translate spot and forward rates.
8. Describe the relationship between forward and spot rates.

Online Quizzes: Quizzes will be posted in McGraw-Hill Connect website.

Tests The tests will include concept and problem questions.

Final Exam The final exam will include concept and problem questions.

Participation: Show up, ask questions and participate when called on. Do this, and
youll earn an easy 10 points. On the other hand, you will earn a zero
for participation if you fail to exhibit a professional demeanor in
class. Unprofessional demeanor includes (but is not limited to):
coming to class late, leaving class early, talking while Im speaking,
checking for text messages, surfing the net, etc.

MAKEUPS: Given at the discretion of the instructor.

Organization of the course:


The course is organized in D2L. You are expected to log-in few times a week and keep up
with the postings in D2L throughout the semester. Although D2L is the main course
platform, there will be one other site that is very important for the class.

McGraw-Hill Connect is the platform for taking Online Quizzes. Therefore, next thing you
should do RIGHT after getting your text book is REGISTERING on MCGRAW-HILL
CONNECT using THE CODE THAT COMES WITH CUSTOM EDITION OF THE TEXT
BOOK.

What you will find in D2L


In D2L you will find course announcements, contents posted, discussion board, grades
posted, as well as links to other websites, such as McGraw-Hill Connect site.

Online Quizzes (Connect Finance)


There is one online quiz for almost every chapter. The grade for two online quizzes with lowest scores
will be dropped. The online quizzes will be very good learning tool as they will give you feedback on how
well you are grasping the material and at the same time enhance your mastery of the class material. You
are allowed to attempt each online quiz as many times as you would like. However, almost all the questions
will change every time you start a new attempt. The attempt with the highest score will be graded and
posted in D2L. The web address for the online quizzes for the class is:
