These word cards can be used in a variety of

ways. In my classroom, I cut and laminate the
large word cards and add them to our word wall
when we are learning about this month. They
are also the perfect size to use in a pocket
chart, or to use with magnet letters, alphabet
tiles or magna doodles as a word work center. I
also have a set that I cut, laminate and hole
punch. I keep those on a binder ring in our
writing center as a reference throughout the
year.

I use the mini word walls in our writing center. I cut

them to 8 by 10 inches and place them in a clear
plastic photo stand (purchased at the Christmas
Tree Shops). When the unit is over, I place the mini
word wall in a clear plastic sleeve in a binder called
Our Class Dictionary. This way, students can find
the words all year long. You can download the
freebie in my TPT store.

Bubble Maps {pages 22 - 23}

Children can use this graphic organizer to
brainstorm events that happen at school or to
brainstorm school words. It is a fantastic prewriting
activity for any school based writing prompt.

Line it up! {page 24 - 27}

Children will put the school word cards in
alphabetical order, and record them in that order
(ex: art, backpack, book). You can give children all
or some of the cards to differentiate the activity.
There are two different recording sheets to best
meet the needs of your students..

Children will draw or write about something that
they like to do at school. They should refer to the
mini word walls or word cards. The bubble map
could be used as a prewrite for this activity.

Children will use the word walls or word cards to
find the word that matches the picture and fill in
the blank boxes.

Describe It {Page 32 33}

Children use adjectives to describe the family.
