Writing
In the Writing sections students are often asked to
write short texts based on the model of the reading
text in the lesson, or using information derived from
it. For example, in Lesson 16 Music on the Internet,
students read a dialogue between a representative of
the music industry and a music fan, and they go on
to write two paragraphs, outlining the views of both
the industry and the fans on downloading music
from the Internet. Some of the Writing sections are
more practical and practise the IT elements
described in the reading text, for example, in Lesson
3 Using a word processor, students put into practice
what they have learnt about formatting a document
by typing up and formatting a text they have written.

Get real
The 'Get real' task at the end of each lesson is a link
between the content of the lesson and the real world.
Students are encouraged to use reference materials,
magazines, newspapers, or the Internet to investigate
ideas related to the topic of the lesson. For example,
in Lesson 15 Viewing and downloading files,
students are asked to research greetings cards on the
Internet and in high-street shops and to discuss them
and what they offer. Some of these tasks are also
designed to be the basis of possible project work. For
example, in Lesson 28 Careers in IT, students are
asked to find out about jobs that involve IT and the
courses that lead to certain careers. Students then
pool their information in a class file which will be of
practical use to those students who wish to take up a
career in IT.
