A. Key issues in the Ministry circular N 175


1. Respect guidelines and circulars
2. Respect planning for continuous assessment (CA) in related circulars
3. Prepare students for certifying exams
4. Evaluate quizzes/tests and do follow up.
5. Respect regional and local plans for CA
6. Discuss CA issues in the different school councils
7. Prepare CA plan for each semester
8. Prepare a quiz/test plan for each quiz/test
9. Include information about CA in lessons record book (LRB)
10. Have an updated portfolio for CA
11. Respect the way CA is calculated (marking scale, coefficient, etc.).
B. Key issues in the Ministry circular N 142- 07 (high school):
1. Types of quizzes: written, oral, out of class assignments
2. Written quizzes: Short quizzes (1 after each unit, 15 to 30 mins each) + a global
test (1 to 2 hours at the end of each semester)
3. Content of the written quiz: one or two of the following: Reading comprehension;
and/or Listening comprehension; and/or language (grammar, vocabulary and
functions); and/or writing
4. Quiz plan: Standards/competencies, Answer key, Marking scale
5. Quiz plans and samples should be included in the Lessons record book (LRB)
6. Correction in class
7. Remarks about students' results should be noted in LRB. Remarks should include
weaknesses and proposed remedial work
8. Quizzes should respect the syllabus, testing criteria (clarity, objectivity, validity,
reliability, authenticity, creativity, etc.)
9. Quizzes should cover the key evaluation elements of each semester
10. There should be a plan for continuous assessment for each semester
11. Oral quizzes include varied oral activities
12. Out of class activities for consolidation and independent learning
13. The last quiz in each semester should be administered according to the CA
planning (or circular if any)
14. Calculation of the final mark of continuous assessment:
(Short quizzes (out of 20) + Global test (out of 20)) : 2= one mark for written
quizzes out of 20 ((written quizzes out of 20 X 3) + Oral quizzes (out of 20) + out
of class activities (out of 20)= one mark out of 100) : 5= final mark (out of 20)
15. Submit quiz marks and corrected papers to the school administration (for
inspectors and parents)

C. Key issues in the Ministry circular N 182 (middle school); the same as above
except for the following:
2. Written quizzes: Short quizzes (2 to 3 each semester, 15 to 30 mins each) + a
global test (1 hour, at the end of each semester)
13. The last quiz in the first semester should be administered between 10 and 18
January; for the second semester between 06 and 11 June.
14. Calculation of the final mark of continuous assessment:
(Short quizzes (out of 20) + Global test (out of 20) + Oral and out of class activities
(out of 20)): 3= final mark (out of 20)
15. Submit quiz marks and corrected papers to the school administration two weeks
after the administration of the quiz (for inspectors and parents)
