CASE 2: MR.

ARANETA

Prepared by: Jasper Andrew C. Adjarani

Statement of the Problem

In the light of Mr. Aranetas observation that the Company does not induce creativity due to its

overly structured nature, what should be done in order to promote positive change within the

Company?

Objectives

The goal of this brief analysis is to provide a recommendation that is in the best interests of the

parties (i.e. Mr. Araneta and the Company). Particularly, this analysis wants to provide an avenue

for Mr. Araneta and the Company to discuss what Mr. Araneta has observed and come up with a

recommendation that will improve the Companys methods and operations.

Areas of Consideration

Mr. Aranetas passion in improving the Company his passion to cause positive impact

within the organization is both admirable and exceptional. The question is could it be that

he crossed the line with declaiming the lack of creativity given that he has been with the

Company for just three (3) months?

The size of the Company and the nature of its operations it is mentioned that the

Company is a private organization. However, there is no mention as to its industry or type.

Due to the limited information in the case, it is difficult to determine whether the

creativity which Mr. Araneta wants to promote is necessary in the context of the

Companys nature and size.

The Companys culture and ideology, specifically the top management the

Companys state of being overly structured as perceived by Mr. Araneta may be a product

of the formers long-term culture. This is something that is difficult to penetrate or alter

overnight, let alone by someone who has been with the Company for a short period of time.

Recommendation:

Advice Mr. Araneta to invest more time in understanding further the characteristics of the

organization through interviewing personnel and observing daily operation, then prepare a

formal presentation to the Board that shows how the necessary changes he wishes to forward

can lead to the ultimate improvement and growth of the Company

Rationale and action plan:

As a management analyst, Mr. Araneta is expected to be highly driven in influencing the

organization where he is employed about his ideals for improvement. However, it could also be

possible that he is overly imposing the same which could cause management to either be indifferent

or resistant with the proposed changes. Both of these are particularly normal. Another lens that the
proponent considers is the fact that Mr. Araneta has been with the Company for a short period of

time. Not only that, his position is presumably new among the employees. With this, two things

are most likely in effect. First, top management may not yet fully appreciate his role within the

firm; and secondly, Mr. Aranetas observation may be a result of him being in the initial process

of adapting with the Companys culture.

The approach the proponent wants to take aims to cater both sides of the coin. To further improve

the conclusiveness of Mr. Aranetas observation, he should conduct further research within the

Company and understand how exactly the organization is expected to function for both internal

and external stakeholders. Since the organization is perceived to be structured, preparing a formal

presentation that discusses his observations and the changes he deems to be necessary over simply

verbalizing these over-the-counter will most likely be more entertained. Mr. Araneta has to

understand that initially, his initiative will not be immediately supported and he has to take the

measures and exercise persistence as professionally as possible in order to encourage top

management to listen to him. Perhaps a formal meeting has to be requested by him for this matter,

and if approved, management (including himself) can work out whether the move to be more

creative is necessary and the manner on how the changes will be implemented in both the short

run and the long run.
