3.1 Introduccin
Hello again! You are in Unit 3:
I LIKE TRAVELLING. In this unit you will learn some new vocabulary related to:
hobbies and interests and jobs; also, the days of the week, months and the
seasons of the year. I will show you how to write negative and interrogative
sentences, to express likes and dislikes, and the frequency you do an action.
I hope you improve a bit more your English in the Practice, Listening and
Reading sections.
I am sure you will improve your English, too, playing some games and reading
about the city where Susan and I are spending some days.
Please read and listen carefully all the unit and try to learn as much as possible.

ME GUSTA VIAJAR. En esta unidad aprenders vocabulario nuevo relacionado

con: las aficiones e intereses y las profesiones; adems, los das de la semana,
los meses y las estaciones del ao. Te mostrar cmo escribir oraciones en
forma negativa e interrogativa, a expresar gustos y si algo no nos gusta, y la
frecuencia con la que se realiza una accin.
Espero que mejores un poco ms tu ingls en los apartados de Prctica,
Lectura y audicin!
Estoy seguro de que tambin mejorars tu ingls con los juegos y leyendo sobre
la ciudad donde Susan y yo estamos
3.2 Ingls para Principiantes (A1).

3.1Audicin
Its time to the listening.

Here there are two listenings: in the first one, Susan and I are having a coffee
while we are planning our day together.
In the second listening, we are talking and we decide that we want to play
tennis and later go to the cinema.
Listen to them and pay attention! After listening to the dialogs you have to do
two exercises.

Aqu hay dos audiciones: en la primera. Susan y yo estamos tomando un caf
mientras planeamos nuestro da juntos.
En la segunda, estamos charlando y decidimos que queremos jugar al tenis y
despus ir al cine. Escchalas y presta atencin!
Despus de escuchar los dilogos tienes que hacer dos ejercicios.
3.2.1 Audicin 1
Matthew: Its wonderful to have a coffee here! After having our breakfast we
can go for a walk and visit Regents Park. Do you like parks in London?
Susan: Matthew I like very much London, it is a beautiful city. I am sure the
parks are great.
Matthew: The east side of Regents Park has lots of woodland and mature trees
but the park is also well known for its sports pitches and the area north of the
lake is full of football, rugby and hockey. Do you like sports? Or have you got
any hobby?
Susan: I like tennis and swimming, they are two of my favourite hobbies.
Though, the best I like is travelling!
Matthew: Do you know that Tennis in London is very famous, and people like a
lot? For two weeks of every summer, typically during the last week in June and
first week in July, London is the centre of the tennis world. The reason is
Wimbledon, the world's most famous Grand Slam tournament. By the way, do
you want to do some exercise this evening?

Mathew: La parte este de Regents Park tiene un montn de bosques y rboles

grandes pero el parque es tambin conocido por sus campos de deporte y la
parte norte del lago esta llena de campos para el ftbol, rugby y jockey. Te

Susan: Me gusta el tenis y la natacin, son dos de mis pasatiempos favoritos.
Aunque lo que ms me gusta es viajar.
Matthew: Sabes que el tenis en Londres es muy famoso, y a la gente le gusta

mucho? Durante dos semanas cada verano, lo tpico es que durante la ltima
semana de junio y la primera de julio, Londres es el centro del mundo del tenis.

Matthew: Lets play tennis, then. There is a tennis and golf practice centre in
Regents Park and we can play after the walk.
Susan: I like playing tennis! Do you know the opening time?
Matthew: I know summer and winter is open all day, dont worry!
Susan: I sometimes go to play tennis in New York, but I seldom have time to
go. I am very busy to practice a sport. By the way, I havent got here tennis
shoes. Have you got a racket for me?
Matthew: Yes, I have, and later we can go shopping and get tennis shoes, no
problem.
Susan: Perfect plan!

Matthew: Andtoday is Wednesday, so after playing tennis we can go to the
cinema. Do you like going to the cinema?
Susan: Yes, I do. But I tell you I dislike horror films.
Matthew: I dont like either. Do you prefer one that contains adventure and
humour?
Susan: Yes, it sounds good!
Matthew: I am happy we have the same likes.

3.3 Vocabulario
3.3.1 Intereses, aficiones y gustos
Para hablar de intereses, aficiones y gustos, podemos utilizar las siguientes

estructuras:
- My favourite hobby is(vb+-ing) (Mi aficin preferida es)

- I like (vb+-ing)
- I enjoy (vb+-ing) (Me gusta)
- Im interested in(Estoy interesado/a
Ten en cuenta que estas expresiones van seguidas del verbo en gerundio, es
decir, aadiendo ing al infinitivo.
For example:
My favourite hobby is playing cards.

Mi aficin preferida es jugar a las cartas.
I like going to the cinema

Me gusta ir al cine.
I enjoy dancing in a disco

Para decir el oficio de alguien, en ingls ponemos delante del nombre el artculo
a o an (un/una).

Hay algunos prefijos que usamos para formar oficios a partir de verbos: -er / -
or / - ian / - ist
E.g.:

er.
Del verbo escribir por ejemplo una persona que escribe libros es un escritor.
Es decir: write= escribir; writer=escritor

3.4 Gramtica
3.4.1 El Presente Simple: interrogativo
El presente simple interrogativo se forma aadiendo la partcula do al principio

de la frase y a todas las personas, excepto a la tercera persona del singular
que la partcula es does, y el resto de la frase se queda como en su forma
afirmativa perdiendo el verbo la s de la tercera persona del singular.
E.g.:
Does she plays basketball?
Does she play basketball?
Juega ella al baloncesto?
Do they do all their homework?

Hacen todos ellos los deberes?
Aqu tenemos el verbo trabajar en presente interrogativo:
RECUERDA
Recuerda que: el presente simple se usa para verdades generales, para

acciones habituales y frecuentes sin ser necesario que se estn produciendo en
ese mismo instante.
E.g.:
The earth goes around the sun.

La tierra gira alrededor del sol.

Trabajo en un banco.
El patrn que siempre se utiliza para las frases interrogativas es:

Auxilar + sujeto + verbo + complementos?
En el caso del Presente Simple en forma interrogativa, el auxiliar es do o does
(3 persona singular), y el verbo siempre estar en infinitivo (sin to)
E.g.:
Do you go to the cinema on Sundays?
Vas al cine los domingos?
3.4.2 El Presente Simple: negative
Aqu tenemos el verbo trabajar en presente negativo:
La forma completa es ms formal y ms usada en la escritura, mientras que la

forma contrada es ms informal y ms usada para hablar. Como ves, para la
forma negativa aadimos do not o does not a la forma afirmativa. La forma
negativa contrada de do es dont y la de does es doesnt.
RECUERDA
El patrn para las frases negativas es:
SUJETO + DONT / DOESNT (3 persona) + VERBO (INFINITIVO) +

COMPLEMENTOS

Indican con qu frecuencia se realiza una accin. Se colocan:
1) Delante de todos los verbos excepto del verbo TO BE.

Ellos comen siempre en este restaurante.
She never plays tennis with him.

Ella nunca juega al tenis con l.
They are frequently at home.
Ellos estn frecuentemente en casa.
She is often very sad.

Ella est a menudo muy triste.
2) Entre el auxiliar y el verbo en las formas compuestas.

Para preguntar con qu frecuencia se hace algo utilizamos:

How often?
Y despus la estructura de las frases interrogativas: auxiliar+sujeto+verbo?
Por ejemplo:

Con qu frecuencia vas al teatro?

3.4.4 El artculo determinado e indeterminado
Definite and indefinite articles
En ingls existen dos tipos de artculos: el artculo indeterminado/indefinido

a/an equivalente a un/a/o/s en espaol, y el artculo determinado the
equivalente a el, la, los, las. Los artculos en ingls no tienen ni gnero ni
nmero, siempre tienen la misma forma. Se colocan delante del nombre.
E.g.
A car
Un coche
An apple
Una manzana

Los coches
El artculo indeterminado: A/AN.
1) Se escribe an cuando la siguiente palabra empieza por sonido voclico:

Por ejemplo: An accident =un accidente
An ocean = un ocano
2) Se escribe A cuando la siguiente palabra comienza por sonido consonntico

Por ejemplo: A car =un coche
A pencil = un lpiz
Se usa:
- delante de un nombre singular, contable, que aparece por primera vez en la

oracin:
Por ejemplo: A horse =un caballo

3.4.5 El gerundio
GERUNDIO (-ENDO, -ANDO)
El gerundio es un tiempo no personal.
En ingls se forma aadiendo al infinitivo del verbo ing.

Por ejemplo: go = going
En general, los verbos terminados en - e eliminan la -e y agregan -ING.

Por ejemplo: close = closing.

Una excepcin es see - seeing.
En general, los verbos monoslabos terminados en vocal + consonante

duplican la consonante antes de agregar -ing
Por ejemplo: put putting
Pero si antes de la consonante existen DOS vocales, entonces la consonante

no se duplica.
Por ejemplo: rain - raining
Se usa:
- Cuando la accin acta como sujeto.

E.g.:
Smoking is very dangerous.
Fumar es muy peligroso.
- Despus de verbos como: hate (odiar), like (gustar), prefer (preferir),

cuando hablas de gustos.
E.g.
I like swimming.
Me gusta nada.
I hate dancing.

In this part of the topic we have two texts that you have to read and
understand. In the first one, I describe my hobbies and sports that you can
practice in London.
In the second one Susan tells us about her favourite hobby: travelling.
After reading you have to answer some questions about that and do some other
exercises.

En esta parte del tema tenemos dos textos que tienes que leer y entender. En
el primero, os cuento cuales son mis aficiones y los deportes que se pueden
practicar en Londres.
En el segundo Susan nos habla de su aficin favorita: viajar.
Despus de leer tienes que responder algunas preguntas y hacer algunos
ejercicios.
3.5.1 Texto
Doing sports
I have many interests and hobbies. Doing Sport is one of them. London is a
sporty city. For example, the London Marathon is very famous, but there are
other different ways you can get fit in London.
Have a look all these ideas: football, cricket, tennis, gymnastic, rugby, Martial
arts, swimming, horse riding, cycling, etc.
All these sports are very easy to practice. Here you have how to practice them.
To practice
football you can join a local team or simply start playing in a park.
cricket like football, all you need is some space and basic equipment.
tennis you have tennis courts in parks and if the weather is terrible you can
find a court in a leisure centre.
gymnastic you can go to many different clubs.
rugby you need a list and information of the different clubs. It is fast, fun
and great for fitness.
Martial arts is very easy to join a club and are a good way to get fit and tone
up your body.
swimming there are lots of local leisure centres with pools and you can swim

Tengo muchos intereses y hobbies. Hacer deporte es uno de ellos. Londres es

una ciudad deportiva. Por ejemplo, el Maratn de Londres es muy famoso, pero
hay otras formas diferentes de mantenerse en forma en Londres.
Echa un vistazo a todas estas ideas: ftbol, crquet, tenis, gimnasia, rugby,
Artes marciales, natacin, montar a caballo, montar en bicicleta, etc.
Todos estos deportes son muy fciles de practicar. Aqu tienes cmo
practicarlos.
Para practicar...
...ftbol puedes unirte a un equipo local o simplemente jugar en un parque.
...crquet como en el ftbol, todo lo que necesitas es espacio y el equipo bsico.
...tenis tienes pistas de tenis en los parques y si hace mal tiempo tienes pistas
en los centros de ocio.
...gimnasia puedes ir a diferentes clubs.
...rugby necesitas una lista e informacin de los diferentes clubs. Es rpido,
divertido y fabuloso para mantenerse en forma.
Artes marciales es muy fcil unirte a un club y son una manera de mantenerte
en forma y tonificar tu cuerpo.
natacin hay muchos centros de ocio con piscinas y puede nadar unos largos.
La natacin no es slo para el verano.

One of my hobbies: travelling
I am lucky travelling is one of my hobbies, and my job let me do it. I have the
opportunity to travel to places such as the beautiful countries and cities in
Europe, like Paris, Brussels, Turkey, Holland, etc. I
enjoy every trip. Now, I am on holidays in London and
I think is really amazing. But one of my favourite
places is Turkey: Istanbul and Ankara are gorgeous
cities. There are many tourists spots, especially in
Istanbul. My favourite place is the Bosphorus Bridge.
It separates the Asian and European part of Istanbul.
I like Autumn and Spring to travel, for example
October, April, March are good months to do it. I am

an addicted to travelling. I spend a lot money for travelling but I never regret
about travel spending. I see and live different cultures and their lifestyle and
make me a more open person.

Soy muy afortunadaviajar es una de mis aficiones, y me trabajo me permite

hacerlo. Tengo la oportunidad de viajar a sitios como los pases y ciudades
maravillosas de Europa, como Pars, Bruselas, Turqua, Holanda, etc. Disfruto
cada viaje. Ahora, estoy de vacaciones en Londres y creo que es alucinante.
Pero uno de mis sitios favoritos es Turqua, Estambul y Ankara son ciudades
maravillosas. Hay muchos sitios para turistas, especialmente en Estambul. Mi
ligar favorito es el Puente de Bsforo. Separa asitica y europea de Estambul.
Me gusta el otoo y la primavera para viajar, por ejemplo octubre, abril, marzo
son buenos meses para hacerlo. Soy una persona adicta a viajar. Me gasto
mucho dinero en viajes pero nunca me arrepiento de los gastos de un viaje.
Veo y vivo diferentes culturas y estilos de vida y me hacen una persona ms
abierta.

Shopping in London
In my free time I like going shopping. Here in London I have the opportunity to
do it. London has a lot to offer from big department stores to exclusive
boutiques.
There are many areas to go on shopping trips, such as Oxford Street, Covent
Garden and Knightsbridge.And, of course, London has many street markets,
such us Portobello Road Market. It is in Notting Hill and is one of the most
famous street markets in the world.
The Saturday antiques market is the most popular but the street market is six
days a week. Portobello Road is a long, narrow street.
Shopping, like most of London's pleasures, doesn't come cheap. Knightsbridge
has two of the most famous department stores in London, Harrods and Harvey
Nichols and other well known designer shops. And of course, Oxford Street! It
is a massively busy area of London and has million of shops and about 200
million visitors per year! You find here: Marks and Spencer, John Lewis, and the
great HMV record store. London is a very good place to go shopping and with
big shopping areas. There are restaurants and cafes that are situated along
these shopping areas, you can shop and then rest sitting in one of them to have
a coffee or whatever you want.

You say that London is an expensive city, but you have for free some museums
and galleries or walking tours. Most of the Big museums are free, that includes
the Science, Natural History Museums and The British Museum. And if you want
to see London just walk around there are million of walks, routes and itineraries
to follow.
