PRESENT SIMPLE AND CONTINUOUS , ACTION AND NON-ACTION
VERBS
PRESENT SIMPLE
Usamos en presente simple para cosas que son siempre verdad o que ocurren
regularmente

Usamos ASI o QUASI para ayudarnos con el orden de las palabras en las
preguntas
What time does the film start?
A menudo lo usamos con adverbios de frecuencia ( always , never, usually )
Los adverbios de frecuencia van delante del verbo principal, pero detrs
del verbo to be.
Las expresiones de frecuencia normalmente van al final de la frase
Los verbos que describen acciones pueden ser usados en presente simple o
continuo
Los verbos que describen estados o sentimientos son los llamados non-action
verbs. Estos verbos no son usados normalmente en present continuous incluso si
nosotros queremos significar ahora. Van siempre en presente simple. Los mas
comunes son :
Agree : Acordar
Be : Ser o estar
Believe : Creer
Belong : Pertenecer

PAST SIMPLE
Usamos el present perfect + for o since con non-action verbs para hablar de algo
que empezo en el pasado y continua hasta ahora
Theyve known each other for ten years
Usamos How long ? + present perfect para preguntar por un period no
finalizado de tiempo
How long have you worked here?
Usamos for para un periodo de tiempo cerrado ( durante ) y since para un
periodo abierto ( desde )
I have worked here since 1998
I have worked here for two years
Nunca se usa el present simple con for/since
Usamos el present perfect continuous con for / since con action verbs, para
hablar de acciones que empezaron en el pasado y todavia continuan
Nick has been working here since April
Podemos tambien usar el present perfect continuous para acciones continuas o
repetidas que han estado ocurriendo muy recientemente
Have you been crying? No,Ive been cutting onions
Nunca se usa el present continuous con for/since
COMPARATIVES AND SUPERLATIVES : ADJETIVES AND ADVERBS

Can es un verbo modal y solo tiene las formas presente ( que puede ser usada
con significado de futuro ) , pasado o condicional ( could )

BE ABLE TO + INFINITIVE
Have to y must son usados para hablar de obligaciones o cosas que son
necesarias hacer
Have to es un verbo normal y existe en todos los tiempos y formas verbales
Must es un verbo modal y solo existe en presente , pudiendo ser usado con un
significado futuro ( con adverbio temporal )
Have to se usa para obligaciones externas ( nos vienen impuestas por normas ,
leyes etc ) mientras que must se utiliza para obligaciones personales.
You have to wear a seatbelt in a car
I must buy a new shirt

MUSNT
PAST SIMPLE
Usamos el past perfect ( pasado del pasado simple ) cuando estamos hablado de
algo pasado y queremos hablar de una accin anterior
When they turned on the TV , the match had already finished
PRESENT HABITS
Para habitos presents podemos usar usually o normally seguido del presente
simple
I usually get up at 8.00 during the week
PAST HABITS
Para habitos pasados usamos used to / didnt use to seguido del infinitivo
We used to go to France for our holidays when I was a child
He didnt use to do any exercise, but now he runs marathons
Usamos used to para cosas que fueron verdad en un periodo de tiempo en el
pasado, pero que ahora no son ciertas
I used to do a lot of sport
A menudo usamos never used en lugar de didnt use to
I never used to like football, but I watch it every week now
Used to / didnt use to pueden ser usados con verbos de accion y de no accion
Podemos tambin usar el pasado simple para describir habitos del pasado ( a
menudo con un adverbio de frecuencia )
We often went to France for our holidays when I was a child
Si queremos sealar quien hizo la accin se usa by , pudiendo decir cosas de dos
maneras en activa o en pasiva

REPORTED SENTENCES
Usamos el reported speech para decir a otra persona lo que alguien ha dicho
I like travelling / She said (that) she liked travelling
Im leaving tomorrow / He told her (that) she was leaving the next day
Ill always love you / He said (that) he would always love me
I passed the exam / He told me (that) he had passed the exam
Ive forgotten my keys / He said (that) he had forgotten his keys
REPORTED QUESTIONS
Tambien se tiene que cambiar el orden de las palabras sujeto + verbo y no usar
do/did
GERUNDS AND INFINITIVES
GERUND
INFINITIVE WITH TO
Normalmente usamos el tercer condicional para decir como las cosas podian
haber sido diferentes en el pasado , es el pasado de la segunda condicional , se
utiliza como un lamento , es algo ya imposible
Para formar el tercer condicional usamos if + past perfect , would have + past
participle
If Id known about the meeting , I would have gone
Podemos usar might o could en lugar de would para dar menos certeza al
resultado
If shed studied harder , sje might have passed the exam
SMALL QUANTITIES
Usamos any + nombre para indicar cero cantidad con un verbo negativo
There isnt any room in the car
Para dar informacion importante de una persona, lugar o cosa utilizamos las
relatives clauses ( pronombre relative + sujeto + verbo )
Se usa who para personas, which para cosas o animales y where para lugares,
pudiendo usar that en lugar de who o which y no pudiendo omitir nunca
who,which,that,where en este tipo de frases
Julias the woman who/that Works in the office with me
Its a self help book which/that teaches you how to relax
Thats the house where I was born
Who , which y that pueden ser omitidos cuando el verbo en la frase principal y en
la relativa tienen diferente sujeto, where y whose nunca pueden ser omitidos
Ive just had a text from the girl ( who/that) I met on the flight to Paris
This is the new phone (which/that) I bought yesterday
