1.0 FINAL DISTRIBUTION BOARDS (SECTIONALIZED OR SPLIT TYPE)

1.1 GENERAL

1.1.1 This Specification covers the general requirements for design, manufacture,
testing and supply of Final Distribution Boards (FDB / DB). The specific
requirements and details of the distribution board(s) required are given on the
drawings.

1.1.2 The Contractor shall install the Final Distribution Boards (FDB / DB) as shown in
the drawings and in full compliance to this specification, the international
standards specified in the following section & the local authority regulations. In
case of difference between this specification and the specified international
standards and the local authority regulations, the more stringent requirements in
compliance with local authority regulations shall prevail.

1.2 MANUFACTURER & PANEL BUILDER / ASSEMBLER: PRE-


QUALIFICATIONS

1.2.1 Final distribution boards shall be assembled only by a franchisee of the original
manufacturer and approved by the consultant.

1.2.2 Upon request, the franchised panel assembler shall submit the latest documents
of quality and performance assessment carried out by the original manufacturer
for consultant review.

1.2.3 The Franchised panel builder / assembler shall design, assemble and test the
distribution boards as per the pre-defined guidelines of the original manufacturer.
Upon request, the assembler shall obtain approval for the design drawings in
writing from the original manufacturer for the panel design prior submitting for the
consultant approval.

1.2.4 The Original manufacturer and franchised panel builder / assembler shall have a
quality management system confirming to ISO-9001 and shall certified by an
approved certification body.

1.2.5 The franchised panel builder shall have all the facilities locally & in-house and
shall be fully competent and have sufficient competent staff to design, assemble
& test the required distribution boards.

1.2.6 The Franchised panel builder shall have all the facilities in-house to carry out all
routine tests to guarantee the satisfactory performance of the assembled
distribution boards.

1.2.7 The Franchised panel builder shall also provide the after sales service and shall
depute their technical representative within 24hrs to the project site for any
emergency service calls.

1.2.8 All testing equipments and tools of the panel assembler shall be calibrated at
reputed laboratory at specified regular intervals. Certificates shall be submitted
for consultant engineer verification.

1.2.9 Prior to procurement, the contractor shall submit to consultant, a detailed


technical submittal from the panel builder and shall obtain specific approvals for
the distribution boards. The technical submittal shall include but not limited to the
following:

- Company Profile and Quality management system

- Executed project list with details of Client, Consultant, Project & Order value

- Franchising agreement from the original manufacturer

- Type test certificates for the distribution board (wherever applicable)

- Compliance statement to the specifications

- Front, Side and Plan view of the distribution board with dimensions

- Fixing details / Foundation plan with dimensions

- Detailed component arrangement of the distribution board

- Detailed technical specification of the proposed distribution board

- Single line diagram (where applicable)

- Power & Control schematics (where applicable)

- Component list including the model no., type, ratings, quantity and origin

- Catalogue copy of each component

- One set of original catalogue (If requested)

- Routine test & Functional test formats

- Test certificate specimen

1.2.10 Log sheets submittals, shop drawings, method of statements, and approvals
shall be submitted by the contractor.

1.2.11 Spare parts of quantity not less than 10% of the total system quantities shall be
provided by the contractor to the owner after handing over.

1.3 APPLICABLE STANDARDS

1.3.1 Unless specified otherwise Final Distribution boards shall conform in design,
material, construction and performance to the latest editions of the International
recommendations (IEC standards) and its corresponding British / European
standards (BSEN standards) and in particular to the following publications :

- Low Voltage Switchboard IEC 60439-1


- Degree of protection IEC 60529
- L.V Circuit Breaker & Switch-Disconnector IEC 60947-1 to 5
- L.V Circuit Breaker (MCB) IEC 60947-2 / IEC 60898
- Combined MCB & Earth Leakage IEC 61009
- Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker IEC 61009-2-2 / IEC 61008
- Earth Leakage Relay IEC 60755 & IEC364-4 & 5

In addition to the above listed standards, the local authority regulations shall also
be adhered to.

1.4 SITE CONDITIONS

1.4.1 For general climatic conditions, refer and comply the specified project site
conditions. The final distribution boards shall comply and perform satisfactorily at
the below listed special design conditions as minimum:

Ambient temperature : 50C


Relative humidity : 95% (at 55C)

1.5 DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

1.5.1 The distribution boards shall be of standard, natural air cooled, well tested and
proven design which ensures maximum safety to personnel, maximum service
reliability and economic operations for a lifetime of at least 20years. Design and
construction shall be simple and well laid-out and shall provide good accessibility
to components and parts.

1.5.2 Distribution boards shall be rated on the basis of voltage, current, frequency and
the symmetrical breaking capacity of incorporated switching devices.

1.5.3 The electrical system for all distribution boards shall be 415 / 380V, 50Hz
3phase and neutral, 4-wire solidly earthed. The distribution boards shall be
suitable for operating voltage of 415V and insulation voltage up to 500V
respectively.

1.5.4 Unless specified otherwise, the fault level withstand capacity of the distribution
board shall be 16KA RMS as minimum standard. The type test certificate shall
be submitted for consultant engineer verification, to prove the fault level
withstand capacity of the distribution boards. Even under extreme conditions of
major short circuit or mal-operation there shall be no danger to persons in the
vicinity of the assembly.

1.5.5 All equipment and components of the distribution boards shall be capable of
continuous operation at their full current and voltage ratings and with out
detriment or malfunction at system continuous deviation of up to and including
the following percentages of the normal values.

- Voltages 10%
- Frequency 5%

All components shall be capable of withstanding the dynamic, thermal and


dielectric stresses resulting from prospective short circuit currents without
damage or injury to personnel.

1.6 CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

1.6.1 General

1.6.1.1 The distribution boards shall be assembled by an approved panel builder, who
shall pre-qualify and comply the requirements specified under panel assembler
pre-qualification of this specification. The panel builder / assembler, who do not
fully comply pre-qualification clause of this specification are not approved and
cannot be accepted as a manufacturer / assembler / supplier for distribution
boards. The distribution boards shall be assembled by the same panel builder /
assembler, who shall assemble and supply the upstream sub-main and main
distribution boards.

1.6.1.2 Unless specified / approved otherwise, all the switching devices and other
components used for assembly of the distribution boards shall be from
franchised manufacturer or from the same group of companies of the franchised
manufacturer. Design drawings and component catalogues shall be submitted
for consultant approval prior to placement of order for the distribution boards.

1.6.2 Enclosure construction

1.6.2.1 Distribution board enclosure shall be original from approved manufacturer. The
distribution board shall be a branded catalogue product and the assembler shall
only fit the standard type tested busbar assembly and switching devices of the
original manufacturer to the distribution board enclosure.

1.6.2.2 Distribution board enclosure shall be fabricated of minimum 1.5mm thick electro-
galvanized sheet steel folded and welded construction. The enclosure shall be of
simple and robust construction.

1.6.2.3 Distribution board enclosure shall mainly consist of a back box, a specially
designed bracket assembly and din-rail to accommodate the switching devices,
a front plate and a hinged door. The distribution board back box shall easily
allow and accommodate the busbar assembly, switching devices and power &
control components by means of specifically designed brackets and din-rails.
The back box shall have key hole mounting slots for fixing to the walls, pre-
punched fixing holes for accommodating the front plate and a safety earth stud
for bonding purpose.

1.6.2.4 Sheet steel front cover with standard cutouts shall form the front cover assembly,
which shall be screw fitted to the back box assembly.

The front plate assembly shall cover all the components and comb busbar
assembly of the distribution board. The front cover shall be provided with
standard cutouts on it, to provide access only to the toggles and front face of the
switching devices. The door shall be recessed in to the front cover and shall be
flush / surface to the wall after installation. Standard hinged door shall be fixed to
the front cover using concealed type of hinges and thus the door shall form a
protective cover for the switching devices against accidental access. The door

shall have a standard self-latch type of lock with an optional feature of having a
key lock, wherever required. The complete enclosure assembly shall be coated
with durable scratch resistant textured paint finish, epoxy powder polymerized at
high temperatures to an approved color.

1.6.2.5 Unless specified otherwise, the distribution board shall be with ingress protection
rating of IP41 as per IEC standards as minimum.

1.6.2.6 Distribution board shall have standard width in two versions as 16module and
24module (1module = 18mm) for accommodating the modular switching devices
and components. Height of enclosure shall be as per the number of ways and
incoming switching device ratings.

1.6.2.7 General arrangement of the distribution board shall be arranged in such a way
that the incoming switching device and/or incoming terminals shall be located on
the bottom row of the distribution board. The outgoing switching devices shall be
grouped systematically and each group of switching devices shall be
interconnected by comb type of busbars. The interconnection between the group
switching devices and main incoming switching device shall be carried out using
105C heat resistant flexible wires.

1.6.2.8 Wherever required the distribution shall be carried out using special distribution
terminal blocks or by distribution busbars. The distribution board switching
devices shall be arranged in a systematic manner grouped as per the sections
on the load schedules. The distribution terminals and/or busbars shall be
shrouded using special polycarbonate material.

1.6.2.9 The din rail chassis for accommodating modular switching devices shall have
sufficient clearance from the rear wall and its depth shall be adjustable. The front
cover shall be reversible to enable to change the front door opening direction to
suit the site requirements.

1.6.2.10 Distribution board shall be provided with sufficient nos. of knockout type holes at
the top and bottom side for cable and conduit entries. The distribution boards
shall have sufficient cable space for the incoming and outgoing cables.

1.6.2.11 Unless specified otherwise, the distribution board shall be always recessed
mounting. Wherever required, the distribution board shall be supplied suitable for
surface mounting.

1.6.2.12 Wherever the distribution board main switching device rating exceeds 125A or
wherever the outgoing distribution ways exceed the quantity which can be
accommodated on the standard distribution board, the distribution board shall be
custom designed to suit the requirement. However all requirements, features and
guidelines of this specification shall be taken in to consideration.

1.6.3 Busbars

7.6.3.1 The busbar system for interconnecting the switching devices shall be of
insulated comb bar type and shall be original from the manufacturer designed to
accept the manufacturer standard miniature switching devices. The ends of the
comb busbar shall be provided with standard and original end caps to cover the

live bars completely (atleast IP2X protection). Insulated connectors shall be used
for terminating the interconnection cable to the insulated comb busbar. The
insulated comb busbars shall be capable of carrying current up to 125Amps. The
comb busbars shall be tested and proven design to be compatible with the
breaking capacity of the circuit breakers used in the distribution board. There
shall be standard teeth-shield cable ends to insulate the unused com bar teeth.
The insulated comb busbar shall allow any switching devices fitted to it to be
removed without affecting the other circuit breakers.

1.6.3.2 The distribution busbars shall be copper, rectangular and rigid construction. The
phase and neutral busbars shall be arranged systematically on insulators with
screw terminals for distribution wire terminations provided. The busbars
shrouded using polycarbonate material, which shall be self extinguishing
insulating material.

1.6.3.3 Wherever power distribution terminal blocks are used power distribution the
terminals shall be from original manufacturer. The power distribution blocks shall
be fully shrouded using poly carbonate shrouds.

1.6.3.4 Brass neutral terminals with insulating supports shall be provided with each
group of switching devices. The neutral wire from the group switching device
shall be terminated on this busbar and sufficient screw terminals provided as per
the quantity of the outgoing switching device on the group.

1.6.3.5 Neutral busbar terminals shall be permanently fixed and mounted on an


insulator. Neutral busbar fixed on the sliding type insulator mounted to the din
rail chassis will not be permitted.

1.6.3.6 Brass earth terminals shall be provided at convenient location, preferably at


bottom side or at the side of the distribution board for termination of the earth
wires. Earth busbar shall be provided with a suitable termination facility for
connecting the main earth cable on it. Extra terminals shall be provided on the
earth bar for bonding purpose.

1.6.3.7 The ratings of the distribution busbar assembly shall be to suit the incoming
switching device rating, however for the purpose of standardization it shall be
categorized in to two groups as 125Amps and 250Amps, irrespective of the
incoming switching device rating.

For distribution board main circuit rated up to 125A, the busbar shall be rated for
125Amps and for distribution board main circuit rated above 125A, the busbar
shall be rated for 250Amps.

1.6.3.8 The busbar assembly shall also be suitable to accept the manufacturer RCBO
without consuming any additional distribution ways.

1.6.3.9 Busbar assembly shall readily accept the manufacturer MCB or RCBO rated up
to 63A (1pole or 3pole) as outgoing switching device without any modification to
it. All switching devices shall be pre-wired inside the distribution board by the
panel builder prior to delivery.

1.6.3.10 Future space for outgoing switching devices shown in the drawings shall be
readily available in all respects to install the breaker in future without any
modifications to the busbar assembly or the distribution board.

1.6.4 Switching Devices

1.6.4.1 Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB)

1.6.4.1.1 Miniature circuit breakers (MCB) as per the current ratings and breaking capacity
as shown on the drawings shall be provided in the distribution board. The MCB
shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between -10C to +60C
ambient and calibrated at least at 30C ambient. Wherever required and
applicable, the MCB shall be suitably de-rated as per manufacturer
recommendations.

1.6.4.1.2 Miniature circuit breaker (MCB) shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.
The MCB shall have a rated operational voltage of 240/ 415V AC, 50Hz as
defined by IEC standards.

1.6.4.1.3 The MCB shall be modular, compact and din rail mounted design. The MCB
shall be easy clip on type and shall fit on to the standard din rail or to the
purpose made brackets inside the distribution board. The MCB shall be easily
removable from the busbar without disturbing the adjacent installed MCB in the
distribution board.

1.6.4.1.4 The MCB shall be available in 1pole, 2pole, 3pole and 4pole versions. The
physical dimensions of the MCB (within its own version) shall be same for all
MCB rating ranging from 1A to 63Amps and for all breaking capacities up to
15KA for interchangeability and standardization purpose.

1.6.4.1.5 The operating mechanism of MCB shall be mechanically trip free from operating
toggle so as to prevent the contacts from being held closed against short circuit
conditions. MCB shall be of automatic resetting type. All poles of the MCB shall
operate simultaneously for closing, opening and tripping. The individual
operating mechanism of each pole of a multi pole MCB shall be directly linked
within the MCB casing and not only by the operating handles.

1.6.4.1.6 The MCB shall be actuated by toggle. The isolation function shall be certified by
tests guaranteeing the mechanical reliability of the position indication system, the
absence of leakage currents and over voltage withstand capacity between the
upstream and downstream connections. Isolation shall be with positive break
indication. The MCB shall be able to receive a device for locking in the isolated
position. It shall not be possible to padlock the circuit breaker unless the power
contacts are open. The number of operation cycle (0-C) of the MCB shall be at
least equal to 20000.

1.6.4.1.7 The MCB shall be provided with bi-metal thermal and magnetic element on each
individual pole and shall combine the functions of protection of circuits against
overload currents and short circuit currents. The MCB shall also perform the
function of isolation. With addition of certain accessories to the MCB, it shall be
possible to perform the functions of control and protection of persons against
indirect contact.

1.6.4.1.8 The MCB shall be designed for both vertical and horizontal mounting, without
any adverse effect on electrical performance. It shall be possible to supply power
either from upstream or downstream side. The circuit breaker shall ensure
discrimination with the upstream MCCB in an installation. The MCB shall have a
limitation class: 3 as per IEC standards.

1.6.4.1.9 The MCB rated ultimate breaking capacity (ICU) shall be as stated in the
drawings, wherever the fault level at the distribution board is less than 6KA the
minimum ultimate breaking capacity of the MCB shall be 6KA as per IEC 60898
or 10KA as per IEC 60947-2.

1.6.4.1.10 The operating range of magnetic release of the MCB shall be classified as B, C,
& D tripping curves as defined in IEC standards and the MCB shall be available
in all the tripping curves for all rating and breaking capacity without any change
in dimension or appearance. Unless specified otherwise, the MCB shall be
suitable for protecting the cables feeding the conventional loads. The magnetic
release operating range of the MCB shall be between 5In to 10In and shall be of
Type: C curve as per IEC standards.

1.6.4.1.11 The MCB shall be designed to enable safe on-site installation of various
auxiliaries such as shunt release, under voltage release and fault trip / on off
indication switches where ever required. It shall be possible to fit all the
auxiliaries on to a MCB. All the auxiliaries shall be of the snap-in type and fitted
with terminal blocks matching the MCB design and finish. All the auxiliaries shall
be common for the entire range.

1.6.4.1.12 Front face of the MCB shall clearly print marked with manufacturer name, model
/ type, current rating, tripping curve type, voltage rating, breaking capacity and
the standard to which the MCB complies with. The standard symbol / circuit
diagram of the MCB shall also be print marked on the front face.

1.6.4.1.13 MCB shall be provided with a permanent label to indicate the on / off positions,
which shall be print marked on each MCB toggle.

1.6.4.1.14 The MCB terminals shall be designed to fit directly on to the manufacturers
distribution board busbars on one end and to facilitate easy termination of power
cables on the other end. The MCB terminals shall be of tunnel terminals and
shall easily accept up to 16mm flexible cables up to 25A MCB rating and up to
25mm flexible cables for 32A to 63A MCB ratings.

1.6.4.2 Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB)

1.6.4.2.1 Earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCB) as per the current ratings and sensitivity
as shown on the drawings shall be provided in the distribution board. The ELCB
shall be suitable for operating at temperature ranging between -10C to +60C
ambient and calibrated at least at 40C ambient. Wherever required and
applicable, the upstream protection device of the ELCB shall be selected taking
in to account the manufacturer de-rating factors as per the ambient temperature.

1.6.4.2.2 The earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) shall comply with the applicable IEC
standards. The ELCB shall have a rated operational voltage of 240/ 415V AC,
50Hz as defined by IEC standards.

1.6.4.2.3 The ELCB shall be modular, compact and din-rail mount design. The ELCB shall
be easy clip on type and shall fit on to the standard din rail or to the purpose
made brackets inside the distribution board. The ELCB shall be of matching
design with the manufacturer MCB. The ELCB shall be easily removable from
the busbar without disturbing the adjacent installed switching devices in the
distribution board.

1.6.4.2.4 The ELCB shall be available in 2pole and 4pole versions. The physical
dimensions of the ELCB (within its own version) shall be same for all ELCB
rating ranging from 25A to 125A for interchangeability and standardization
purpose.

1.6.4.2.5 There shall be a test button on the front face of the ELCB to test the earth
leakage trip function. The test trip circuit shall be electrically operated.

1.6.4.2.6 Residual current release of the ELCB shall be an electromagnetic device


operating without any auxiliary source of supply. ELCB shall be of automatic
resetting type. All poles of the ELCB shall operate simultaneously for closing,
opening and tripping. The ELCB shall be protected against nuisance tripping due
to transient over voltages.

1.6.4.2.7 The ELCB shall be actuated by toggle. The operating toggle shall be on the first
pole of the ELCB for both 2pole and 4pole version. The isolation function shall
be certified by tests guaranteeing the mechanical reliability of the position
indication system, the absence of leakage currents and over voltage withstand
capacity between the upstream and downstream connections. Isolation shall be
with positive break indication. The number of operation cycle (0-C) of the ELCB
shall be at least equal to 20000.

1.6.4.2.8 The ELCB shall be provided with an electromagnetic device for residual current
release and shall combine the functions of control and automatic breaking of a
circuit against an insulation fault that occurs between the phase & earth. The
ELCB shall also perform the function of isolation. With addition of certain
accessories to the ELCB, it shall be possible to perform the functions of control.

1.6.4.2.9 The ELCB shall be designed for both vertical and horizontal mounting, without
any adverse effect on electrical performance. It shall be possible to supply power
either from upstream or downstream side.

1.6.4.2.10 The ELCB shall be available in ratings from 16A to 125A and the sensitivity
range from 10mA to 500mA without any change in dimension or appearance.
The ELCB sensitivity shall be of fixed type. Unless specified otherwise, the
ELCB at the main incoming circuit of the distribution board shall be 100mA
sensitivity. Unless specified otherwise, the ELCB shall be instantaneous release
type. Wherever discrimination with a downstream ELCB is required, the ELCB
shall be with selective release.

1.6.4.2.11 The ELCB shall be designed to enable safe on-site installation of various
auxiliaries such as shunt release, under voltage release and fault trip / on off
indication switches where ever required. It shall be possible to fit all the
auxiliaries on to a ELCB. All the auxiliaries shall be of the snap-in type and fitted
with terminal blocks matching the ELCB design and finish. All the auxiliaries shall
be common for the entire range.

1.6.4.2.12 Front face of the ELCB shall clearly print marked with the manufacturer name,
model / type, current rating, sensitivity rating, voltage rating and the standard to
which the ELCB complies with. The circuit diagram of the ELCB shall be also
print marked on the front face.

1.6.4.2.13 The ELCB shall be provided with a permanent label to indicate the on / off
positions, which shall be print marked on the ELCB toggle There shall also be
mechanical indicator on the front face of the ELCB to indicate the residual
current fault trip.

1.6.4.2.14 The ELCB terminals shall be designed to fit directly on to the manufacturers
distribution board busbars on one end and to facilitate easy termination of power
cables on the other end. The ELCB terminals shall be of tunnel terminals and
shall easily accept up to 35mm flexible cables.

1.6.4.3 Combined Miniature Circuit Breaker & Residual Current Device (RCBO)

1.6.4.3.1 Combined miniature circuit breaker & residual current device (RCBO) as per the
current rating, sensitivity and breaking capacity as shown on the drawings shall
be provided in the distribution board. The RCBO shall be suitable for operating at
temperature ranging between -10C to +60C ambient and calibrated at least at
30C ambient. Wherever required and applicable, the RCBO shall be suitably
de-rated as per manufacturer recommendations.

1.6.4.3.2 The combined miniature circuit breaker and residual current device (RCBO) shall
comply with the applicable IEC standards. The RCBO shall have a rated
operational voltage of 50 to 250V AC, 50Hz as defined by IEC standards.

1.6.4.3.3 The RCBO shall be modular, compact, din-rail mount, design and finish
matching the adjacent mounted MCB. The RCBO shall be easy clip on type and
shall fit on to the standard din rail or to the purpose made brackets inside the
distribution board. The RCBO shall be easily removable from the busbar without
disturbing the adjacent installed MCB or RCBO in the distribution board.

1.6.4.3.4 The RCBO shall be available in 1pole version. The physical dimensions of the
RCBO shall be same for all RCBO rating ranging from 6A to 45Amps for
interchangeability and standardization purpose. The physical dimension (width)
of the RCBO shall be designed to be same as a single pole MCB.

1.6.4.3.5 The RCBO shall be designed to have both line and neutral terminals of load side
to be accommodated within the size of the single pole miniature circuit breaker.
The neutral shall not be interrupted.

1.6.4.3.6 There shall be a test button on the front face of the RCBO to test the earth
leakage trip function. The test trip circuit shall be electrically operated.

1.6.4.3.7 The operating mechanism of RCBO shall be mechanically trip free from
operating toggle so as to prevent contacts from being held closed against short
circuit conditions. RCBO shall be of automatic resetting type.

1.6.4.3.8 The RCBO shall be actuated by toggle. The isolation function shall be certified
by tests guaranteeing the mechanical reliability of the position indication system,

the absence of leakage currents and over voltage withstand capacity between
the upstream and downstream connections. Isolation shall be with positive break
indication. The RCBO shall be able to receive a device for locking in the isolated
position. It shall not be possible to padlock the circuit breaker unless the power
contacts are open. The number of operation cycle (0-C) of the RCBO shall be at
least equal to 20000.

1.6.4.3.9 The RCBO shall be provided with bi-metal thermal, magnetic element and the
residual current device and shall combine the functions of protection of circuits
against overload currents, short circuit currents, insulation fault and protect
persons against direct & indirect contact. The RCBO shall be suitable for
protection of installations from fire hazard. The RCBO shall also perform the
function of isolation. With addition of certain accessories to the RCBO, it shall be
possible to perform the functions of control.

1.6.4.3.10 The RCBO shall be designed for with one input terminal for the phase wire on
the line side and the spiral neutral wire left out from the RCBO to connect to the
neutral bar of the distribution board. There shall be two tunnel terminals on the
load side of the RCBO to connect the phase and neutral wires. The line and
neutral terminals of load side of the RCBO shall be clearly printed for
identification of terminals.

There shall be an earth wire left out from the RCBO to connect to the earth bar
of the distribution board. The RCBO shall ensure discrimination with the
upstream MCCB in an installation.

1.6.4.3.11 The RCBO rated ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) shall be as stated in the
drawings, wherever the fault level at the distribution board is less than 10KA the
minimum ultimate breaking capacity of the RCBO shall be 10KA as per IEC
61009-2-2.

1.6.4.3.12 Unless specified otherwise, the RCBO shall be with 30mA sensitivity suitable for
protecting the cables feeding the conventional loads and protect the persons
from direct and indirect contact. The magnetic release operating range of the
RCBO shall be between 5In to 10In and shall be of Type: C curve as per IEC
standards.

1.6.4.3.13 Front face of the RCBO shall clearly print marked with the manufacturer name,
model / type, current rating, tripping curve type, voltage rating, breaking capacity,
sensitivity and the standard to which the RCBO complies with. The standard
symbol / circuit diagram of the RCBO shall be also be print marked on the front
face.

1.6.4.3.14 The RCBO shall be provided with a permanent label to indicate the on / off
positions, which shall be print marked on the RCBO toggle.

1.6.4.3.15 The RCBO terminals shall be designed to fit directly on to the manufacturers
distribution board busbars on one end and to facilitate easy termination of power
cables on the other end. The RCBO load side terminals shall be of tunnel
terminals and shall easily accept up to 10mm flexible cables for both line and
neutral terminals.

1.6.4.4 Earth Leakage Relay (ELR)

1.6.4.4.1 Earth leakage relay shall be (ELR) as shown on the drawings shall be provided
in the distribution board. The ELR shall be suitable for operating at temperature
ranging between -5C to +55C ambient.

1.6.4.4.2 Earth leakage relay (ELR) shall comply with the applicable IEC standards.

1.6.4.4.3 The ELR shall be modular, compact, din rail mounted, design and finish. The
ELR shall be easy clip on type and shall fit on to the standard din rail or to the
purpose made brackets inside the distribution board. The ELR shall be suitable
for horizontal or vertical mounting.

1.6.4.4.4 The ELR shall be protected against nuisance tripping caused by switching
surges or lightning surges. The ELR shall be capable of operating in the
presence of fault currents with DC components and ELR shall be sensitive to
direct component residual currents (Class: A)

1.6.4.4.5 The ELR shall be with (adjustable in discreet steps) sensitivity ranging from
0.03A to 25A and adjustable time delay, where applicable and/or required. It
shall be possible to set the desired discreet values of sensitivity and time delays
by selectors on the relay.

1.6.4.4.6 The ELR shall be provided with a suitable toroidal transformer for the earth
leakage detection. The power cable shall be passed through this toroidal
transformer and the output of the toroidal transformer shall be connected to the
ELR. The toroidal transformer shall be suitably sized to suit the cable size.

1.6.4.4.7 Operation of the ELR shall be such that the relay trips the associated switching
device (MCCB or MCB) when it detects a residual current above the set residual
operating current. The tripping is either delayed or instantaneous as per the
selection and requirement. ELR shall be provided with at least one changeover
output contact.

1.6.4.4.8 The ELR shall be electronic based circuitry encased in a ventilated compact
case to monitor the output of the toroidal transformer and provide a relay contact
output when the monitored current value exceeds the preset value.

1.6.4.4.9 Sensitivity & time selector shall be on the front face of the relay behind a hinged
transparent sealable protective cover. The status and trip indications shall be
available on the front face of the relay. A test button and a reset shall also be
available on the front face.

1.6.4.4.10 The ELR shall be with tunnel terminals to accept wire sizes up to 2.5mm cables.

1.6.4.4.11 Unless specified otherwise, the ELR shall be set for 100mA sensitivity and
instantaneous trip for protecting the cables feeding the conventional loads and
protect the persons from direct and indirect contact. The ELR shall provide
vertical discrimination over a number of levels. The ELR shall be failsafe type
and failure of the detection circuit shall trip the relay. It shall be possible to test
the functionality of the ELR by pressing the test trip pushbutton and resetting the
relay by reset push button on the relay.

1.6.4.5 Miniature Isolator (Din-rail mounted up to 125A)

1.6.4.5.1 On-load miniature isolator as per the current ratings as shown on the drawings
shall be provided in the distribution board. The isolator shall be suitable for
operating at temperature ranging between -10C to +60C ambient.

1.6.4.5.2 The isolator shall comply with the applicable IEC standards. The isolator shall
have a rated operational voltage of 240/ 415V AC, 50Hz as defined by IEC
standards.

1.6.4.5.3 The isolator shall be modular, compact and din rail mounted design. The isolator
shall be easy clip on type and shall fit on to the standard din rail or to the
purpose made brackets inside the distribution board.

The isolator shall be easily removable from the busbar without disturbing the
adjacent installed switching devices in the distribution board.

1.6.4.5.4 The isolator shall be available in 1pole, 2pole, 3pole and 4pole versions. The
physical dimensions of the isolator (within its own version) shall be same for all
isolator rating ranging from 40A to 125Amps for interchangeability and
standardization purpose.

1.6.4.5.5 The isolator shall be of on-load type capable of safely opening and closing the
power circuit on-load. All poles of the isolator shall operate simultaneously for
closing and opening. The individual operating mechanism of each pole of a multi
pole isolator shall be directly linked within the isolator casing and not only by the
operating handles.

1.6.4.5.6 The isolator shall be actuated by toggle. The isolation function shall be certified
by tests guaranteeing the mechanical reliability of the position indication system,
the absence of leakage currents and over voltage withstand capacity between
the upstream and downstream connections. Isolation shall be with positive break
indication. The number of mechanical operation cycle (0-C) of the isolator shall
be at least equal to 50000.

1.6.4.5.7 The isolator shall perform the function of isolation. The isolator shall be designed
for both vertical and horizontal mounting, without any adverse effect on electrical
performance. It shall be possible to supply power either from upstream or
downstream side.

1.6.4.5.8 The isolator shall be capable of withstanding a short circuit current of at least
20times the nominal rated current for a period of at least 1second. The minimum
nominal current rating of the isolator shall be 40Amps irrespective of the rating
shown on the drawings.

1.6.4.5.9 The isolator shall be designed to enable safe on-site installation of on off
indication switch where ever required. The auxiliary on-off switch shall be of the
snap-in type and fitted with terminal blocks matching the isolator design and
finish. The auxiliary on-off switch shall be common for the entire range.

1.6.4.5.10 Front face of the isolator shall clearly print marked with manufacturer name,
model / type, current rating, voltage rating. The standard symbol / circuit diagram
of the isolator shall also be print marked on the front face.

1.7.4.5.11 The isolator shall be provided with permanent label to indicate the on / off
positions, which shall be print marked on the isolator toggle and/or on the front
face of the isolator.

1.6.4.5.12 The isolator terminals shall be designed to fit directly on to the manufacturers
distribution board busbars on one end and to facilitate easy termination of power
cables on the other end. The isolator terminals shall be of tunnel terminals and
shall easily accept up to 35mm flexible cables up to 125A isolator rating.

1.6.4.6 Switch-Disconnector / Isolator (Above 125A)

1.6.4.6.1 On-load isolator as per the current ratings as shown on the drawings shall be
provided in the distribution board. The isolator shall be suitable for operating at
temperature ranging between -10C to +60C ambient.

1.6.4.6.2 The isolator shall comply with the applicable IEC standards. The isolator shall
have a rated operational voltage of 690V AC, 50Hz as defined by IEC standards.

1.6.4.6.3 The isolator shall be simple, compact, moulded case and back plate mounted
design. The isolator shall be available in 2pole, 3pole and 4pole versions.

1.6.4.6.4 The isolator shall provide class II insulation (as per IEC standards) between the
front and internal power circuits. The operating mechanism of the isolator shall
rapid opening and closing and shall be operator independent. All poles of the
isolator shall operate simultaneously for closing and opening.

1.6.4.6.5 The isolator shall be actuated a handle that clearly indicates the two positions:
On and Off. The operating mechanism of the isolator shall be designed such that
the handle can only be in off position, if the power contacts are actually
separated. Isolation shall be provided by a break on the main circuit. The
isolation function shall be certified by tests guaranteeing the mechanical
reliability of the position indication system, the absence of leakage currents and
over voltage withstand capacity between the upstream and downstream
connections.

1.6.4.6.6 The isolator shall be able to receive a device for locking in the isolated position.
It shall not be possible to padlock the isolator unless the power contacts are
open.

1.6.4.6.7 The isolator shall perform the function of isolation. The isolator shall be designed
for both vertical and horizontal mounting, without any adverse effect on electrical
performance. It shall be possible to supply power either from upstream or
downstream side.

1.6.4.6.8 The isolator shall be capable of withstanding a short circuit current of at least
5.5KA for 1second for ratings up to 250A and at least 20KA for 1second for
ratings ranging from 320A to 630A.

1.6.4.6.9 The isolator shall be designed to enable safe on-site installation of On/Off
indication switch where ever required. The auxiliaries shall be separated from
the power circuit. The auxiliaries shall be of the snap-in type and fitted with
terminal blocks. All the auxiliaries shall be common for the entire range. The
addition of auxiliaries shall not increase the volume of the isolator.

1.6.4.6.10 The isolator shall be provided with rating plate with all standardized
characteristics indicated on the rating plate. It shall include all ratings of the rated
insulation voltage, rated impulse withstand voltage, utilization category and the
standard the isolator complies with.

1.6.4.6.11 The isolator terminals shall be suitable for readily receiving the busbars of the
distribution board on one end and the specified power cable as per the ratings.
Where the cable sizes are bigger, the isolator shall be provided with suitable
custom made busbar extension or other termination accessories from the
original manufacturer. Wherever applicable the terminations shall be provided
with original terminal shields from the isolator manufacturer.

1.6.5 Labeling

The distribution boards shall be labeled in English to describe the designation of


the distribution board as referenced in the drawings. The label shall be fixed to
the front face of the distribution board. The label shall be of special white PVC
material front engraved for the desired text. The text shall be black in color. The
label shall be fixed to the door using a special PVC rivets.

Permanent labels / identification stickers shall be provided inside the distribution


board for phase identification of the incoming and outgoing switching devices.
Identification shall be provided for neutral and earth connections.

Labels indicating the circuit numbering shall be provided for each outgoing and
incoming switching device as per the load schedule description.

A drawing pouch shall be provided inside each distribution board and approved
load schedule (laminated) and the as-built drawings for the distribution board
shall be provided.

1.6.6 TESTING

1.6.6.1 Type test

The distribution board and the components as applicable shall be type tested in
accordance with the IEC standards to verify the specified fault level withstand
capacity from a reputed and approved type testing laboratory and certified by a
competent authority.

The following 7 type tests as specified in IEC 60439-1standards shall be carried


out at recognized test laboratories and certificates from approved test witnessing
authority shall be provided for each type test:

1. Verification of temperature-rise limits (IEC Clause 8.2.1);


2. Verification of the dielectric properties (IEC Clause 8.2.2);

3. Verification of short-circuit withstand strength (IEC Clause 8.2.3);


4. Verification of the effectiveness of the protective circuit (IEC Clause 8.2.4);
5. Verification of clearances and creepage distances (IEC Clause 8.2.5);
6. Verification of mechanical operation (IEC Clause 8.2.6);
7. Verification of the degree of protection (IEC Clause 8.2.7).

Type test certificates shall be submitted to the consultant engineer for


verification.

1.6.6.2 Routine test

The panel assembler shall perform the routine test and provide the test
certificates as defined in IEC standards. The routine test shall include but not
limited to the following:

1. Inspection of the assembly including inspection of wiring and electrical


operational test (IEC Clause 8.3.1);
2. Dielectric test & Insulation resistance test (IEC Clause 8.3.2 & 8.3.4);
3. Checking of protective measures and of the electrical continuity of the
protective circuits (IEC Clause 8.3.3)
4. Functional test as per the approved test procedure.
