The journal of a young artist 1860 1884 (Marie Bashkirtseff)

- Uma jovem de 18 anos que quer muito ser artista. Ela vai Paris para iniciar seus estudos de
desenho e bastante elogiada. Quer ganhar o Prix de Rome*.

[*The Prix de Rome (pronounced: [pi d m]) was a French scholarship for arts students,
initially for painters and sculptors, that was established in 1663 during the reign of Louis XIV of
France. Winners were awarded a bursary that allowed them stay in Rome for three to five years
at the expense of the state.]

- Ela parece ter algum problema de sade e ter perdido a voz. Diz ter sofrido muito na vida.

- H comentrios sobre como algumas das mulheres artistas (que foram permitidas no estdio
de artes h pouco tempo) so to boas quanto os homens.

- Encontra a famlia na rua enquanto passeava com outras artistas. A famlia se sente muito
envergonhada.

- Diz que nunca esteve satisfeita consigo. Professores da escola de artes dizem que todos
devem agir assim. Ela tem inveja de uma colega que comeou a 3 anos atrs. Uma crtica a faz
esquecer todos os elogios.

- Rosa Bonheur was one of the greatest animal painters in the history of Western art and
certainly the best known woman artist of the nineteenth century. She received international
recognition during her lifetime and in late years became a hero of the feminist movement.
