Before the Observation During the Observation After the Observation

Focus Points: What happened during the lesson? Reflective Questions: (Observer)
Partition numbers into 10s & 1s to solve 2 digit Went over LI & SC
addition problems Asked students to use equipment to show groups of 10 and ones Do your students know why they are learning
when partitioning numbers to solve addition problems this?
67 + 32 =
Take the lowest number
32 and break it down into 10s and 1s
3 10s = 30 + 2 1s =
Planning / Preparation: 30 + 3
Well organised 67 + 30 = 97 Observee feedback:
Modelling book 97 + 2 = 99
LI Students had an ah moment Great to see students using materials to support
Equipment ready and accessible Students then went on to solve 43 + 26 using the same steps as learning. Having modelled and referring to the
Students Maths books written up and ready set out in the modelling book. Students articulated the steps they model frequently showed clear expectations & SC
to go were taking as they went along
When they had completed this task they went on to work from their
maths books. All the time the teacher was there to guide and
support learning. Lots of praise was given and a nice tone used.

Next Steps: Support needed:

For students to independently work on partitioning numbers Set up an effective maths programme within timetable to ensure Hot Stops are done
consistently to teach knowledge
Hot Spots and rich tasks to be included into daily programme
Timetable adjustments
