1. TABLEAU:
Tableau is dashboard software that allows non-technical users to create interactive, real-time
dashboards in minutes.

1.1 Tableau Site:


Tableau have different sites as shown. Work books and dash boards are created in Projects under
specific sites.

Sites are the top level of user security and are typically used to create different environment for
users. Each site is administered separately and has its own Groups, Users, Projects, Workbooks and Data
Sources. If a user has access to more than one site they will be prompted to choose which site they want
to enter when they login to the server. Immediately after installation a single Site will exist called
Default, this can be renamed but cannot be deleted as a Server must always have at least one Site.

1.2 License Levels


All users are added as unlicensed by default.

Viewer: The user can log in and see published views and tooltips on the server but cannot
interact

with the views. Users with this level can only be given permission to view, add comment, and
view comments.

Interactor: It allows the user group to view, edit, apply filters, export images, export data of
workbooks

Publisher Group: Allows the user to connect to Tableau Server from Tableau Professional so
that can
publish and download workbooks to the server

1.3 Tableau Environment Groups:


1.3a System Administrator Group: Tableau environment is managed by this group.

1.3b Site Administrator Group: Site details will be managed by this group

1.3c All Tableau/User Group: All tableau users will be available in this group. This group will be used to
deliver the notification to all users

1.3d Projects:
Projects are nothing but folder which comprises of dash boards and work books. Each sites have
many projects. Projects are created by site administrators and supported by development team.

E.g. site (Global services and Solutions) have the following projects as shown in fig.

Creation of Projects and assigning permission for the projects are done by the site administrators and
supported by development team
1.4 Dash Boards:
A dashboard is a visual display of the most important information needed to achieve one or more
objectives consolidated and arranged on a single screen so the information can be monitored at a
glance.

Projects comprises of one or many workbooks. Dashboards are the pictorial representation of the data
created in the workbook. We can drag and drop dimensions and measures, color, size and other
properties using the Marks card to view the data as required. The Show me icon is used to quickly switch
between visualization types between different listed views as pie chart, bar chart,

1.5 Connect to Data:


Data can be fetched from any source into tableau. Tableau can be connected to many common
databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Teradata, Oracle, EMC Greenplum, HP Vertica, and
more.

1. Select Data > Connect to data or press Ctrl + D on your keyboard.

2. On the Connect page, select the type of data you want to connect to.
1.6 Connect to Server:
Provide the username, password and the server name and click on connect. The tableau will be now
connected to the specific server.

Select the database and table name in which the data has to be exported and click on go to Worksheet.
Now the user will be directed to the workbook. Just drag and drop the fields in the rows and columns
field to view in pictorial representation.

1.7 To change the view of Workbook:


Any type of view can be done just on a single click. Show Me is available at right corner which displays
different views and we can change the view as pie chart, bar chart and soon..
1.8 Alerts:
Alerts shows the errors and the details of the workbook. It displays additional information as data
source and the error type.
2. Admin:
Administrator have following tabs and functions to perform on tableau,

2.1 Maintenance:
Server status, activity, password settings and scheduling workbooks are done in maintenance

2.2 Licenses:
The licenses details such as product key, the type of licenses and expiration will be provided in
licenses tab. Here the licenses can be modified.
2.3 Site Users:
It displays the list of users for all the site or to the particular site. Admin can switch over the site
and manage the user list. The user list will be available to the admin with the license level and
the site details.

2.4 Groups:
Group tabs displays the list of user in the group and the number of members associated to it.
2.5 Projects:
Projects tab is used to manage the projects associated to particular group. It provided the
information of the workbooks in it.

2.6 Data Connections:


Data connections details such as connection type, name and last modified details are available
in data connections tab for the admin.

The data connections can be changed by editing the data connection. The server name, port and
database username password should be provided to connect.
3.0 Schedules:
Schedules are the time schedule for which the workbook has scheduled. The admin can view the
number of tasks in the schedules and the next run time
3.1 Editing the schedule:
Schedules name is given in the name tab which has the timing format in PST. Schedules scope, priority
and schedule definitions should be given as shown in fig. and click on save.

3.2 Tasks:
Tasks are displayed in this tab with the associated type, schedule, priority and sites which are
maintained by admin. Priority will be maintained by system admin/developer/supporters.
3.3 Subscriptions:
Subscription will be created by the end user.

4.0 Roles and Responsibility:

Development: Admin Access will be provided by the development team

Support Team: Production issues/bugs, creating schedules, training and SNC process are maintained by
the support team.
