Example-1:

Refer to Figure 3-40F for basis of the example. Use water, as an example
fluid. Solution of the question is attached so detailed calculations.

Solution:
Discharge head = 60 ft
Discharge pressure head 26, psig = 26 x 1 / 2.31 = 60 ft
Discharge friction and exit head (at pipe/tank):
140 ft of 8-in. pipe = 8.8 ft
3 nos. of 8-in. 90 ells = 3.8 ft
1 no. of 8-in. gate valve = 0.3 ft
1 no. of 8-in. check valve = 3.3 ft
*Exit loss: Assume 8-in. pipe = vel head = 1.4 ft
Subtotal, ft = 17.6 ft
Total discharge head = 137.6 ft

Suction static head (lift) = -10.0 ft

Suction pressure head 0, psig (atmos) = 0 x 1 / 2.31 = 0.0 ft
Suction friction and entrance head:
10 ft of 10-in. pipe = 0.2 ft
1 no. of 10-in. suction 90 ell;
*Entrance loss: 10-in. pipe assume = vel head = 0.6 ft
Subtotal = -1.3
Total suction head = -10 + (-1.3) = -11.3 ft
Total pump head = 137.6 - (-11.3) = 148.9 ft

*These are not velocity heads at pump connections, but are related to the
piping connections.
