medica mondiale is a German based international womens rights organization that supports

traumatised women and girls who have survived sexual gender based violence in war or crisis zones.
We offer direct support to women and girls and advocate for their rights.

For our Program in Liberia we are looking for a

Project Manager (female)

Background
Sexualised and gender based violence experienced during the civil war as well as all forms of post-
war violence and sexual abuse of women and girls are at an extremely high level in Liberia. The
consequences of rape and other forms of sexualised violence are multiple and interfere with each
other. Mostly, women that have been raped not only suffer from severe physical and psychological
consequences; also survivors are very likely to end up at an extremely low socio-economic status and
sometimes face stigmatisation and social exclusion from families and/or communities. They lack
knowledge about and access to their human rights. Therefore, sexualized violence and its
consequences need to be addressed through a complex approach that tackles the consequences on
physical, psychical, economical, educational, legal and social level as well as through strategic
linkage with institutional decision makers.
medica mondiale implements a Rehabilitation and Prevention Program for survivors of sexualised
violence that interlinks the following main areas of action: Rehabilitation for survivors of violence
through supportive psychosocial counselling services; skills trainings; reproductive health education;
social and political empowerment; the set up of Prevention and Protection Networks through
community sensitization and mobilisation; training of protection networks to enhance the local
capacity to prevent and respond to SGBV; training for institutions and (I)NGOs; Promotion of
Structural Change towards equal rights, protection, and justice for women and girls through political
advocacy work on the national level.
medica mondiales involvement in Liberia is part of the Reintegration and Recovery Programme
(RPP), a development programme of the Republic of Liberia, co-financed by the Federal Republic of
Germany through KfW Development Bank. In the framework of RRP medica mondiale works in
partnership with Welthungerhilfe/German Agro Action (infrastructure program) and Ibis (educational
program).

Project Setting
medica mondiale works in 3 South-eastern counties Liberia: Grand Gedeh, River Gee and Sinoe.
Head office is in Fish Town, River Gee, where medica mondiale Liberia has set up a Women and Girls
Centre. In Monrovia, medica mondiale has a back-up office. Duty station of the Program Manager is
Fish Town, River Gee, a village in a very remote area. Accommodation is provided in medica
mondiales guesthouse in Fish Town.
