YEAR!
Has your child come home
recently to tell you about working
collaboratively or having more
movement in the classroom? Or
perhaps your child has shared
that other teachers have been
observing in his classroom. All of
these are some of the
commitments teachers in CCPS
have made for themselves of the
instructional strategies to be tried
during the coming year.
Caroline County Public Schools
has begun a new initiative this
year called, Essentials for
Learning. We have partnered with
Learning Sciences International
(LSI) to help us improve the
instructional practices of our staff;
with the support of LSI, teachers
will learn research-based
strategies to increase student
engagement and interaction with
more challenging tasks.
OUR GOAL: CREATE A RIGOROUS ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
FOR EVERY STUDENT

Why is CCPS implementing
Essentials for Learning? Our
business leaders have asked the
school system to address rigorous
academic standards as well as
skills needed in today's
workplace. These include:
> Ability to work in a team
structure;
> Ability to make decisions and
solve problems (tie);
> Ability to communicate verbally
with people inside and outside an
organization;
> Ability to plan, organize and
prioritize work; and,
> Ability to obtain and process
information.
In addition to the emphasis on
21st century skills, through
Essentials for Learning, teachers
will learn ways to design lessons
that meet the standards while
improving the engagement level
of all our students.
Throughout the year, teachers will
collaborate with colleagues,
coaches, administrators and other
personnel to improve their
practices.
