Standard Operating procedure for Nifty Lift Cherry Picker

1. Purpose

This procedure provides detailed information on the process of use and Operation of
nifty lift. Safe operation of the nifty lift is intended by following the procedure.

3. Operation Method.

Starting Procedure.

Before starting check following points:-

1. To Start with, take necessary statutory work/safety permits if any, before using
the lift. Ensure Necessary Safety permits are obtained.

2. Check the Lifts Safety Guards, Battery & Engine shields/covers for Intactness &
properly secures the Bonnet clamps during use. Check & ensure Proper contact
of the Static charge Earthing strip with Road/surface regularly.

3. Prior to starting of lift check it as per daily check sheet. i.e. Engine Lub oil level ,
Coolant Level, Fuel level , Hydraulic oil level , check battery healthiness , radiator
belt healthiness , Lock pin removal , check safety Guards, battery and engine
covers for intactness., check hoses and ensure no damages , no leakages etc.
Check the Engines Air Filter, clean and replace if necessary.

4. Release Emergency stop from ground control panel & Platform control panel.

5. Check for condition of Drive Engines Battery for self-start & ensure its charge
level by starting engine & warming it up.

6. Before doing any operation lock the door and press the foot switch in the cage at
the right foot.

Operating:

7. Insert the Keys, into the Ground control panel & select the Control Mode (Ground
or Platform). Ensure that the Emergency switch is released at both ends.

8. Initially select the Ground control mode, and & keeping the Push button control
switch pressed, Operate the Manual Hydraulic lever for Levelling the Platform
base w.r.t Ground (In case the Level has got disturbed).

9. Check for the Various Engine, Motor & Battery parameters like Normal charge
level, Oil & fuel levels etc. from the display unit on Platform controls (If selected
the Platform Mode). If there is any abnormality, it will be indicated on the display.
If any Fault alarm reset it / Normalize.

10. Select Battery / Engine mode. If engine is to be started after a long stoppage of
Machine, use the Heater plugs for a few seconds, then Crank the Engine & start
it, let it run for 2 -3 mins for warming up.

11. Confirm the buzzing of the Beacon Alarm once the machine is started.

12. After that operate the other end, hydraulic lever to steer the wheels to an upright
position (i.e. straight).

13. Release/Unlock the lifts turn table Bull gear locking pin before starting usage of
lift, for facilitation of rotation of Lift (360Deg).

14. After the initial Engine warm up & above steps have been carried out, select the
Mode selector key to Platform controls.

15. Climb on top of the platform; load the required work tools / tackles on to the
Platform bucket (Ensure that including the Operators the total platform weight is
less than 225Kg). Switch ON the Main control switch (From hare too Engine can
be started & warmed up if required).Use safety belts when operating at heights.

16. By using either Battery / Engine START the movement of the lift, for which first
select the speed selector to Tortoise -Low or Hare High.

17. Keep either the Push button/Foot control switch pressed, and by using the
Accelerating/retarding Joy stick, move Lift forward or backward, also steer the
wheels to Right or Left as required.

18. After driving it to the actual work spot, where machine needs to be elevated.
Keep the Foot switch pressed and operate the Hand Hydraulic levers (On
Hydraulic valve station) to achieve the desired motion as per application.

19. HORN regularly when using Lift, for alerting others.

The following Motions are possible using dedicated levers (As per standard
symbols on control panel) :-
(a) Platform bucket left-right Swivel motion lever
(b) Platform bucket up-down Tilt motion lever
(c) First Boom up-down motion Lever
(d) Second Boom up- down motion lever
(e) Telescopic Boom motion Lever
(f) Turn table rotation lever
(g) Wheel steering motion lever
20. While Operating the Lift for working at heights, always look in all directions,
especially look Above & Below for any unsafe condition. When in doubt put the
Panel control switch OFF & immobilize the lift
21. In case of any Emergency/Alarm, operate the Hydraulic levers & bring the lift
back to normal state & then only move it, after clearing the Fault

Note:

Platform levelling boom only active when booms are down.

Cherry picker will not operate when cage overload indicator will glow or lift is tilting.

Stopping Procedure:

Braking for slowing down the cherry picker is suggested to be done by

releasing the joystick. The brake is to be activated.
If you release the footswitch cherry picker will come to immediate stop.
Push in Red emergency stop to shut down all function.

Using the cherry picker:

Ensure the Area where cherry picker is to be used must be having levelled and
smooth flooring.
Ensure the area of swing and lift is clear for working.
Ensure area of work is barricaded properly while working in shops.
Ensure safety cone is put around cherry picker body while working on outside
area.
After finishing the work lower the cage and ensure nobody is standing below
the cage.

Any problem or malfunctioning that affect the safety of operations shall be

repaired prior to the use of the Nifty lift
Do not alter, modify or disable in any way the control, safety devices, interlock
or any other part of the machine.
Before the nifty lift used and during use the user shall check the area in which it
is to be used for possible hazards such as but not limited to, uneven ground
drop-offs, holes, bumps, obstruction, debris, floor and overhead obstruction,
high voltage conductors, wind & weather.
Never position any part of the nifty lift within 10ft (3m) of any open electrical
power line, conductor or similar above 450 volts.
Always remain standing within the platform. Do not attempt to increase your
height or reach by standing and / Or climbing on the platform guard rails or any
other object. KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE PLATFORM FLOOR.
Under all travel condition the operator shall limit travel speed according to
conditions of ground surface congestion, visibility, and slope, location of
personal and other factor causing hazards of collision or injury to personnel.

Donts:

Do not operate the equipment unless you are familiar with the control and
operating procedure and care confident of handling the equipments
Do not exceed the rated capacity of the equipment.
Do not take fast turn on inclines and turnings.
Avoid driving around corners at high speed.
No modification and alteration to the equipment to be done without consent of
OEM.
Dont operate the equipment if any defect is observed. Report to the Superior.
Do not use the platform levelling system to artificially increase the outreach of
the platform. Never use boards or ladders in the platform to achieve the same
result.
Do not use the platform to lift overhanging or bulky items that may exceed the
maximum capacity or carry objects that may increase the wind loading on the
platform.
Stunt driving and horseplay on or around the nifty lift shall not be permitted.
The boom and platform of the Nifty lift shall not be used to jack the wheels of
the ground.
The nifty lift shall not be used as a crane.
Do not operate two function simultaneously.

Dos:

Only authorized driving licence holding and trained person should operate/
drive the equipment.
Use All PPE while working on cherry picker.
Observe applicable Traffic regulation within the factory .Slow down and sound
horn at intersections and the area where vision is obstructed.

Ensure safe distance when lifting the cage from walls, racks, pillars.

Safety:
When checking electrolyte level great care should be taken to protect eyes, skin
and clothing. Battery acid is highly corrosive and protective glasses and clothing
is recommended.
The engine must be shut down while fuel tank being filled; fuelling must be done
in a well ventilated area, free of flame, sparks, or any other hazards that may
cause fire or explosion.
Never start the nifty lift if you smell diesel fuel. This fuel is highly flammable.
Never remove anything that may affect the stability the machine.
Do not operate a potentially defective or malfunctioning machine. Correct and
repair any defects before operating your nifty lift.
