NYU STERN SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

AHBBS ALUMNI GROUP

The NYU Stern Association of Hispanic and Black
Business Students (AHBBS) Alumni Group is an
organization devoted to supporting all alumni: full
time, part time, Executive and undergraduate,
providing networking and career development
opportunities for its members and partners.
The SAT Test Prep Scholarships (STEPS) Program was created because:
  SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) scores are key in determining high school students' college
and scholarship options.
  SAT test scores amongst African American and Hispanic youth continue to see a declining
average.

Program Structure
  Students are identified through Learning Leaders (www.learningleaders.org), the largest school
volunteer and parent engagement program in New York City

  Selected students take SAT prep courses delivered by Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions
  Student participants also receive mentorship throughout the 12-week program

Students with access to specialized tutors and mentors are

positioned to fare better in scoring upon taking the test
The SAT Test Prep Scholarship (STEPS) Program provides
economically disadvantaged African American & Hispanic
high school juniors in NYC public schools with SAT tutoring
from Kaplan, a nationwide leader in testing, thereby improving
their college admissions options

Program Objectives
  Prepare students for SATs
  Support students in their study and technique habits to enhance test
performance
  Help improve the likelihood of being admitted into a university of their
choice

throughout the 12 weeks

“As a Hispanic student who wants to give a lot to this country and to have better
opportunities, I want to thank you very much for having chosen me to be part of this
program. I am very happy to tell you that I will attend to each session and that I will do
everything I can to prepare for the SAT and get a good score. Thank you a lot!”
-A. Munoz, [School]

“The STEPS program has helped me out in many ways. It gave me a mentor who has
been through what I’m going through and is willing to help me achieve my goal. He
also taught me how to set up my own goals and is a perfect example of success. The
Kaplan course taught me various strategies that have raised my SAT score over 120
points. If it wasn’t for the STEPS Program, I would have gone into the SAT with no idea
of what to expect. One thing the STEPS Program can do to make the experience
better is make the classes smaller so each student can get more help.”
