Steps for Complementary Color Wheel

Step 1: Plan

Students will complete color wheel worksheets to understand the basics of the color wheel as well as
the order of the colors. After completing their worksheets, they must then decide what shape they
want to use for each slice of their wheel and for each colors complementary. Students must practice
drawing their shapes before being allowed to use the stencil paper.
Step 2: Prepare

Once students have decided on their shape they will create a stencil and begin mixing their paints for
each section of their color wheel. When all the paints have been mixed, students will apply them to 12
different sheets of paper.
Step 3: Create

Taking the stencil they created of the two shapes, students will cut out 24 shapes from the sheets of
paper they painted the day before. Once all the shapes have been cut out the students will arrange
them in the proper order and glue them to a square sheet of paper. The complementary shape of each
color will be glued on top to create interesting designs.

Steps for Warm/Cool Tree

Step 1 Practice

In their sketchbooks, Students will practice

drawing trees and learning about the different
components that make them. They will also
learn how to create a grid using a ruler and
their pencils.
Step 2 Plan

Students will decide which sections of their

tree will have cool colors and warm colors. The
trunk of the tree should be only black and white while the leaves and background uses actual color.
Step 3 Create

Students will move on to their final paper and create their Warm & Cool trees. First drawing the grid,
then the tree with various branches and drawing the circle for the leaves. The Circle should be filled
with Warm colors while the background is filled with Cool colors. Once everything has been colored in
correctly, students will mount their artwork to a backing.
