Foundation Course Lesson 7

What Is The Trinity?

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion
of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. 2 Corinthians 13:14

The word Trinity is used to describe the three persons of the Godhead. Which means that the one
God exists in three distinct separate persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit all of which are co equal
and are in complete unity.

Make sure not just to read these Scriptures on this page, but to turn to them in your Bibles and mark
them out and learn them.

The Bible Declares that there is only One God Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear , O Israel: The Lord our
God, the Lord is One. But the Bible teaches that there is Three persons called God, We can see
from the scriptures that each person is called God,
The Father Phillipians 1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ.
The Son John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God.
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
Holy Spirit Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy
Spirit.
Acts 5:4 You have not lied to men but to God.

We can then confirm from these scriptures that the one God is made up of three parts, Father, Son &
Holy Spirit.

Lets see how each Person is involved together in parts of Scripture:

The Incarnation (The birth of Jesus, God becoming flesh.) - When the Angel Gabriel was
sent by God to Mary to announce she was chosen to bear The Christ, Luke 1:35 - The Holy Spirit
will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy
One who is to be born will be called the Son Of God.

The Baptism of Jesus All Three Persons were involved in the baptism of Jesus, Matt 3:16,17;
Mark 1:10,11; Luke 3:21, 22 - When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also
was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in
bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, You are My
Beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.

The Resurrection Of Jesus Each Person of the Trinity also raised Jesus from the dead.

The Father - Acts 3:26 To you first, God, having raised up His servant Jesus
The Son John 2:19 Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. John 2:21 - But
He was speaking of the temple of His body.
The Holy Spirit Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the Dead dwells
in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His
Spirit who dwells in you.

In making Disciples All Three Persons are mentioned in our task for making disciples.
Foundation Course Lesson 7

Matthew 28:19 - Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Creation All Three Persons were involved in the creation.

The Father Hebrews 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed
heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.
The Son Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on
earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things
were created through Him and for Him.
The Holy Spirit - Genesis 1:2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the
face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

The Trinity taking care of there own John 14:16-18, And I will pray the Father, and He
will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever, the Spirit of truth, whom the
world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He
dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

Questions

1) Turn to Matthew 28:19. Are you making disciples? If not, why not? Pray the Holy Spirit will
give you a desire to reach the lost.
2) Turn to John 16:7-11. When talking of The Helper, is the Holy Spirit convicting you of sin? If
you feel that He is not, pray, see your pastor to help you.
3) Turn to John 16:13-14. Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to work in you? Are you surrendering
or hindering His work for you? If you are blocking His work, pray and read the Word and allow
