USES
Fixative with good stability to acid, designed to improve the wet fastness properties of dyeings and
prints on all kinds of PA-fibers including polyamide microfibers and of wool.
Highly efficient, particularly recommend on PA/elastane blends to improve wet fastness levels.
After-treating dyeings and prints with acid dyes on polyamide.
Reserving agent for use in dyeing polyamide/cellulose and wool/cellulose blends.
Preventing substantive and reactive dyes from staining the polyamide and wool components of
polyamide/cellulose and wool/cellulose blends respectively in dyeing with acid and substantive or
reactive dyes.
Promoting good shade solidity with 1:2, 1:1 metal complex dyes and acid dyes on wool/polyamide
blends.

PROPERTIES
General stability Stable in hard water and to alkalis and concentrated acetic acid.
Precipitates in presence of cationic products and high
concentrations of electrolytes. Non-ionic and slightly cationic
products (e.g. leveling agents with dye affinity) reduce its
effectiveness and can cause precipitation under acid conditions,
particularly in hard water.
ERIONAL FRN can be used together with anionic substances. If
the water contains iron, a complexing agent should be used.
Storage stability Stable for more than 1 year at 20C in closed containers.
At low temperatures viscosity increases but the products
effectiveness is not impaired.
Ecology/toxicology The usual hygiene and safety rules for handling chemicals should
be observed in storage, handling and use. The product must not
be swallowed.

APPLICATIONS
Dissolving/diluting
ERIONAL FRN can be diluted with cold or warm water in all proportions.
Rinse thoroughly once the dyeing is completed. Remove all remaining dyeing auxiliaries, especially
cationic or nonionic substances. INVALON DAM might serve as an anionic assistant to remove
interfering substances. Add ERIONAL FRN to a fresh bath.
The uptake of ERIONAL FRN depends on the pH, the temperature, and on the quality of the
polyamide.
The required amount depends on various factors (e.g. dyes, shade depth and substrate) but will
normally be within the limits given below. Preliminary trials are recommended.
Add first:
14% ERIONAL FRN
Then adjust pH to 4.5 - 5 with the addition of e.g.
1 g/l ALBATEX AB-45

Technical Data Sheet ERIONAL FRN fixative and reserving agent
ERIONAL FRN should not be added to copper sulfate after-treatment liquors because one-bath
application can lead to precipitation.
Dyeing wool/ cellulose blends
ERIONAL FRN permits one-bath dyeing of these blends under the weakly acid pH conditions
essential for minimum fiber damage. It reserves the wool component against non-fast staining by
substantive dyes, and promotes level uptake of acid dyes onto the wool.
Required amount
0.52% ERIONAL FRN
The degree of reservation depends largely on the affinity of the substantive dyes used, the dyeing
temperature, and the bath pH.
Two-color effects are obtainable with a suitable selection of dyes.
Stripping
Polyamide material treated with ERIONAL FRN is difficult to re-dye or over-dye. The product should
therefore first be largely stripped from the fiber by treating with
23 ml/l ammonia 24% and if necessary
12 g/l TINEGAL W or ALBEGAL W
1520 min at the boil
In the case of correcting wool dyeings treated with ERIONAL FRN the pH should not exceed
pH 88.5 and maximum temperature of 85C.
NOTES
In exhaust application of ERIONAL FRN the process sequence must be followed carefully in order
to achieve optimum results.
The handle of the goods may change slightly (becoming firmer, fuller), depending on the amount of
ERIONAL FRN used, the fabric construction and the temperature during drying or post-setting.
The effects obtainable by after treating with ERIONAL FRN are stable to dry heat at the usual
setting temperatures, but they can be impaired by intense pressure steaming. Increasing the
amount of fixative will often improve the stability of the effects to steaming.
