Course Analysis

Course description
The Project Management Professional (PMP)1 Methodology coursework is designed
to introduce the PMI2 (Project Management Institute) methodology to new or
experienced project managers who wish to 1) learn the industry standard of project
management; 2) become better practitioners and/or 3) prepare for the professional
certification.

The preceding objectives will be achieved through a combination of


independent, collaborative, and research methods by simulating a real world
IT project.

The course is separated into one-week modules for each of the five process
areas and expands to mini courses3 for integration of each of the 10
knowledge areas.

Students
This course is suitable for learners who are interested in the PMI project
management methods or who currently work as project or program managers or
support projectized work initiatives.

This course is appropriate for adult learners who have at least 200-400 hours of
experience in project and program management or as a contributor to the project
team (i.e. developer, analyst, engineer, application specialist, etc.)

Prerequisites:
1. 6-12 months Experience with project portfolio management (PPM) tools (i.e.
Salesforce, MS Project Server, Visio, Excel)
2. 6-12 months Experience in the information technology domain developing,
coding, analyzing, optimizing, testing, managing and or implementing
software or hardware systems or enterprise-wide change processes.

3 Mini-course: a brief course of study usually lasting less than a semester


3. Proficient in computer use (i.e., Internet searching, document creation, video
chat, email, Google Suite, file creation, sharing, modification, etc.).
4. Proficient in reading and comprehending technical, business, and strategic
concepts.
5. 6-12 months Experience in budget management and financial analysis,
solution development.

All personnel whose work directly or indirectly supports projects (including entry-
level project/program managers) and all personnel who can improve the efficiency
of their day-to-day work by applying modern project management concepts and
methods.

Delivery
The content will be delivered in an online format using a combination of micro-
course4, audio, video, and textual formats.

What challenges do you anticipate?


Challenges that are most likely will be related to the use of PPM tools and the ability
to adapt the PMI methodology as appropriate when unexpected events occur during
the course of the project execution.
