Ethical Issues in Human genetics and Genomics

Genetic information is often considered exceptional when compared to other medical information
about an individual for a number of reasons. First is because of the shared nature and ownership of
genetic info. Individuals undergoing genetic testing have a responsibility to consider not only what it
means for their own health, but also what the information may mean for their relatives, and their
responsibilities towards those relatives. Next is in some cases, genetic tests provide reliable and
accurate information on which people can make decisions, in other cases it may not be possible to
obtain a definitive result or in other word there are limitations of genetic testing. Genetic Testing allows
us to predict our future health condition and this will bring us some problems. People that are suspected
to have such gene that cause certain disease will get difficulties in finding job, interacting with others
and even they will chose not to get married because they know that later they children will be born with
faulty gene that will lead to certain health problems. Inappropriate applications of genetic testing also
can be a problem. For example using genetic testing wheter the fetus that will be born is boy or girl for
family balancing. Controversial applications of genetic testing such as reproductive cloning and genetic
testing for enhancement create a huge challenge worldwide and require implementation of
international regulations on the boundaries within which these applications can be applied. For example
a man which is born from a parent with faulty gene has a potential to develop certain serious disease.
He will be in a dillema whether to have a genetic testing or not, because having a genetic testing will
affect many aspect of his life.
