"My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I drive a Mercedes, my son

drives a Land Rover, his son will drive a Land Rover, but his son will ride a camel. In a

world of scarcity, chemical engineers are limited in means and propelled by the worlds

infinite wants. As Sheikh Maktoum, the visionary that made Dubai a metropolitan hub,

foreshadows, a finite supply of resources are available on Earth. This suggests that

chemical engineers will encounter problems such as limited resources, efficiency, climate

change and that research in alternative energy sources is essential for technological

advances and a promising future. In addition, effective waste disposal methods are

required for the safety of the environment and the people. My desire to pursue a career

in chemical engineering stems from finding solutions to these problems and my

fascination for creating something valuable from nothing. An undergraduate degree will

provide me with the necessary tools such as knowledge of reactions, the operation of

mechanisms and industrial experience, allowing me to contribute and unravel these

issues.

My academic background reflects my interest in mathematics and science, which have

played a major role in my decision to pursue engineering. In addition, studying

economics has provided me with the knowledge and insight to look at chemical

engineering from different perspectives because developing and creating something

efficiently is essential. I have studied a broad range of courses from which calculus and

chemistry appealed to me the most. Differentiation, integration and flow rates intrigued

me and made me enjoy solving intricate problems. This is a vital asset, as the

applications of my mathematics will involve using complex calculus to solve fluid system
and heat transfer problems. Chemistry topics such as thermodynamics, kinetics and

organic chemistry have raised my curiosity and driven me to explore them in depth,

which I believe is essential since chemical engineering syllabuses focus specifically on

these topics. The knowledge obtained from my courses will be valuable in my learning of

modeling production processes, reactions, mechanisms, electrical and electronic

systems and industrial economics. Physics and biology have benefited my academic

abilities and thinking as well. These challenging courses have built me a sturdy

foundation for a future career by developing and strengthening my work ethic, academic

knowledge, communication and teamwork skills.

I often ask myself "how will this benefit or prepare me for a career in chemical

engineering?" Enrolling in a course at Imperial where I studied engineering and physics

was one of those times. The course was a beneficial experience since I had the chance to

see the departments and unsurprisingly the chemical engineering one mesmerized me

the most. I conversed with students about their views on the courses and the hard work

it took to be successful, which was vital information and provided me with perspective.

Pursuing chemical engineering encouraged me to enroll in an eight-week nuclear

engineering, science and technology course, which I passed successfully with distinction

from the University of Pittsburg. It taught me about the importance of alternative energy

sources for our future and the issues that have to be dealt with such as costs and safety,

factors chemical engineers have to keep in mind when at work.

My current studies at Kings College are giving me opportunities to develop my maths

and chemistry knowledge, attend lectures by Kings academics, as well as enhance my

essay and lab writing skills. The advantages of the course include a university experience,

exposure to Kings academics and access to world-class laboratories so when I undertake

an undergraduate course I will be more than prepared for it. I believe my academic

history, well-rounded personality and strong desire to study chemical engineering make

me a viable candidate for your course.
