SKIN TALK
Q What questions should I ask my doctor before I
consider undergoing cosmetic treatment to get
rid of dark spots and pigmentation. What kind
of procedure can I undergo?
A: First of all, you have to understand what hyper pigmentation is. It is
darkening of an area of skin caused by the over production of melanin
which can be caused by a lot of things like - excessive sun exposure,
ageing, hormonal changes, pregnancy, menopause, injuries, inflammation,
dust and polluted environments, alcohol consumption and even smoking.
All of these damage the skin, making pigment producing cells in the
skin called Melanocytes to become over-active. This over-activity
usually becomes permanent leading to hyper pigmentation. You can be
a candidate for pigmentation removal if you have dark skin patches or
uneven skin tone that bothers you. The available treatment options are
chemical peeling, photo-facial, q-switched laser, laser skin resurfacing and
microdermabrasion. These procedures take a good 2 to 5 days of recovery.
So you must consult your doctor to discuss your options. For post-op
care, you must use a dermat approved sun protection cream, apply an ice
pack (as there can be swelling and redness) and avoid tweezing, waxing,
bleacing or chemical peels during the course of the treatment.

Metal in modern finishes is
trending in a big way this
year. Flooring, fixtures,
walls, kitchens and even
upholstery carry a metallic
look, with copper being a
hot favorite. It's bling like
you've never seen before.

WHAT YOU COULD DO:

Mix metals with materials like wood and stone to create something new. Gleaming chrome, copper and gold paired with wood,
glass and stone are a fab way to create an earthy flair. Use accessories such as light pendants, chandeliers, large mirror frames
and door knobs and handles to infuse your room with mixed metals.

Geometric Designs
Interior designers are reviving the straight line as geometric designs make an impressive entry in Indian homes. Geometric
patterns, when used correctly, can be highly flexible, visually stunning and in some cases, very functional. You can bring in the
trend with lights, floor tiles, upholstery or furniture. You don't have to throw out all the curves, just add interesting geometric
accents to add versatility.

This year lighting designs are heavily inspired by geometric

patterns. Look at modular structures that oscillate from
classics to modern designs.

Using vertical lines or patterns on walls creates a sense of

scale, and visually transform the space, making them look
more stretched out or vast.

Check out the retro but classical Mondrian style

tile. Your room will stand out in tones of black, grey
and white. Remember however to use geometric
patterns that complement your design.

Theyll grab attention. Balance them out with some less-busy

elements. If youre using bold and vibrant colours in your fabric or
accessories, create a white space or use simpler elements to strike
the right note.

The Retro Look

Bring back the 70s with over-the-top theatrical flamboyance. Mix old styles and new forms, materials and
finishes. You can add a touch of you, and play around with bold and brash colours, and vibrant patterns.

Prefer to go back to basics

and give colours a miss?
Pair geometric designs in
monochromatic colours to create
smart interiors. Black and white is
an all-time classic.

Here's a tip: If you want to use a

lot of patterns, consider a basic
colour scheme, and let your
patterns do the talking.

Red is a statement colour. This year, red is making a comback as

an accent color, to emphasize a nook or highlight an area.

When were talking retro, psychedelic colours are an obvious

choice. Pick a stand alone piece of furniture or a single wall in
the living room to go bold and bright. You can choose from
a spectrum of yellow and green to hot pink and tangerine.
Theyre the colours most big names in interior and product
design are dabbling in this year.

TIP: As a general rule of thumb, its not a great idea to use more
that 3 colours in one design; and clash patterns. However this year
its being rewritten to pair vibrant colours with geometric patterns.
So dont be afraid to experiment! Mix and match shapes, patterns
and colours.

People usually play it safe with pastel tile and dark granite countertops, but safe is boring. Instead, consider a different
combination. Since the cabinets are all black and chrome, take a bright coloured counter top and just a pop of colour on the
backsplash connecting the hob to the chimney.

Most kitchenware is shiny black, silver or grey.

Bring in colour by investing in bright hues. Pick
colourful pots, pans and kettles in red and bright

Soul-Gaze Your Sex Session

While post-sex pillow talk and cuddling is a known relationship booster, you can do something
pre-sex as well to take it up a notch higher. Next time you are getting into the mood with your
partner, stop and take a moment to pause and look deeply into each others eyes. This is what
sex experts call soul-gazing: Stare into each others eyes for a minute before moving on to the
act and see your sex life transform into something more meaningful and gratifying.
