Consignment Tracking services

ABSTRACT

Providing solution to the shipyard industry to schedule and reschedule ships effectively.
Handles consignments for Consigners, Uploading data, Online tracking for the Consigners, handle
ships and route information.

To implement a system that can track consignment, container and cargo when ship is in
between ports.

A system is fully manual which involves communication between the customer or

organization and the employees at the transmitting port and receiving port.
The present system picks up consigner and cargo information from the organization and
generates a consignment document. A copy of the document is handed over to the consigner, a copy
is kept for them and a third copy is send to the destination port. At the receiving end the
consignment copy of the document is shown and delivery done.

The central concept of the application is to allow the consigner to book cargo to the
consignee at the port and has the consignment shipped to the consignee.

The aim of the proposed system is to implement the system that can track consignment,
container and cargo when ship is at different ports. The main objectives of the system is tracking the
consignment or cargo after the ship has set sail provide a facility to re-schedule consignments,
accessible globally in order to have a wide network coverage and increases customer confidence,
cargo availability & re-scheduling which improves delivery to the consignee.

The consigner gets to see the existing schedule, the ports the ship has already crossed,
the last visited port ,a site map, which clearly explains the position of the ship and container
.The consigner now has as facility to reschedule his cargo and book another port where the
cargo can be received.
It is also possible that the ship had taken a different port or route in the process missing
ports where consignments were initially scheduled. In such cases the administrator prepares the
altered scheduled which shows the different route taken by the ship and where the consignment is.

 A registration module is provided only for valid users to access the site. The site is functional
from two users view point and administrator and the pilots.

1. Existing System:

 The consigner and the consignee are unaware of the consignment or cargo when the
ship sets sail.
A facility to reschedule the delivery port is not available.

If the consignment has altered the root in which it has to move tracking of the cargo
is not possible.

2. Problem Statement:

As the head of the information technology at APCS. You are tasked with building a new
Consignment Tracking system to replace the existing that is out dated. The central concept of the
application is to allow the consigner to book cargo to the consignee at the port and has the
consignment shipped to the consignee.

3. Proposed System:

The aim of the proposed system is to implement the system that can track consignment,

A fully automated system that minimizes errors due to manual inefficiency.

Routes are displayed through site maps which makes it user friendly to track the
consignment.
All ports can be interconnected which enables faster reliable communication.
Effective to consigners, consignees and group of employees in the port.

5. Modules:

The System after careful analysis has been identified to present with the following modules.

Login Form:

The module identifies the users of the system typically there are two types of users.

I. Administrator user Employees working at the port. After logged in the

following operations will get.
a) Ship Administration.
b) Route Administration.
c) Schedule Ships.
d) Re-Schedule Ships.
e) Consigner Registration.
f) Consigner Bookings.
g) Arrival & Departure.
h) Reports.

II. End users (consignee, consigner)- Creation and maintenance of above

users are handled in their module. After Consigner logged in the
following operations will be prompted.
a) Booking.
b) Status of Consignment.
c) Re-Schedule Consignment.
d) Change Password.
e) Reports.

 Registration:

In this module information about the consigner, organization, address, cargo values
are received by this module and a consigner ID is auto generated by the system.

This user ID and the password provided by the consigner is used to login into the
website later. The same ID and password or a different ID and password can be preferred by the
consignee to view the consignment details. A facility to change password is provided to the registered
users.

Booking:

In this module the consigner provides information about the cargo being
shipped it specifies the type of cargo weight in tones and container details the value of the
shipment is calculated based upon the tons ship and the rate per ton.
The system generates a consignment number which is in sequence and
will be used by the consigner for all queries related to the consignment.

Scheduling:

In this module the Administrator is going to create new schedules. So, that the
Consigner is going to book his/her consignment that according to the schedules which the Consigner
going to shipped for their destination. Even these schedules are going to be altered or deleted from the
list by the Administrator. All the schedules are viewed by Consigner.

The following options will get in this module.

a) New Schedules.
b) Alter/Condemn Schedules.

 c) View Schedules.

Rescheduling:

This module allows the consigner to reschedule his consignment to a different port
from where it was originally shipped. The consigner gets to see the existing schedule, the ports the ship
has already crossed, the last visited port, a site map, which clearly explains the position of the ship and
container .The consigner now has as facility to reschedule his cargo and book another port where the
cargo can be received.

It is also possible that the ship had taken a different port or route in the process
missing ports where consignments were initially scheduled. In such cases the administrator prepares the
altered scheduled which shows the different route taken by the ship and where the consignment is.

Online Tracking:

The consignment from the different port is then brought back to the initial
port or scheduled port through a different ship whose schedule is also available through this
module.

Arrival/Departure:

This module is used to set the status of the ship which is just arrival to port and
departure from port. The status is set by the individual port Administrator of different countries. So, that
the Consigner can view his his/her consignment at which port right now. This module is helpful to the
Consigners who are going to re-schedule their consignment. The information about the ship and their
consignment is shown by images.

The reporting module provides features that displays following reports.

a) Current Bookings.
b) Route Details.
c) Ship Details.
d) Schedule Details.
