IP+ (1+1) Configuration Procedure

This document describes the procedure of configuring IP+ (1+1) operation mode. In the
following setup, we simulate the radio link with a SMA coax cables, coupler and RF attenuators.

The procedure describes various configuration steps that may repeat for each unit. It is strongly
recommended to complete all the configuration steps for a certain IP+ unit before proceeding
with configuring the next IP+ unit.

During the process of configuring the IP+s, you may need to reset the units (e.g. Switch
configuration). During a reset, it is advised as well to wait until system has completed the reset
and continue with the configuration before proceeding before proceeding with configuring the next
IP+ unit.

Required setup:
IP+ 4 items

Radio units (ODU) 4 items

Attenuators 4 items

IF cables (IDU-ODU) 4 items

RF coax cables (SMA) 5 items

Straight ETH cables for management (single cable or as needed)

Cross ETH cable, to be used as Protection cable 2 items

Protection panel 2 items

Traffic Generator 1 item (optional)

IP+ CLI settings:

Baud - 115200
Data bits - 8
Parity None
Stop bits 1
Flow Control None
Username: admin
Password: admin
Step A: Setting up the equipment
1. Connect the four IP+ devices as described in the following diagram:

Connect the Protection cable (ETH Cross cable marked in red) on both IDUs (3 RJ-45
connector labeled PROT).

Installing the Protection Panel:

Please note:

Connecting the IDUs to the Protection Panel is only required after

enabling Protection on EMS.
Once protection is enabled, Port #3 on IDUs is no longer available for data. This is why the
Protection Panel only protects FE ports 4 to 7. When you connect a MNG port of each IDU to the
Protection Panel, make sure you use the same port number of IDUs and PP port numbers.

To simultaneously manage both Active and Mate units, connect your MNG PC to the same port
number of ETH ports located to the right.
Step B: Setting up the equipment
LEFT - Upper IP+

2. Connect locally (CLI) with a serial cable and configure IP address.

3. Connect to IP+ with a web browser (EMS) (ETH cable)

4. Verify that correct versions are installed

EMS: Configuration / General / Versions

5. Set all to factory defaults (see screen-capture in the next page)

EMS: Diagnostics & Maintenance / Configuration Management

When you click the Activate button, a new window will pop up, asking whether you wish
to restore the IP address as well (click Cancel) or maintain current IP (OK).

If you wish to restore IP addresses to factory defaults, note that your current session
(web EMS) will not be valid, you will need to log in to 192.168.1.1 (default IP).

Repeat steps B.2 to B.5 for:

LEFT - Lower IP+

RIGHT - Upper IP+
RIGHT - Lower IP+
Make sure you set unique IP addresses per device.
 Compare versions of all units.

6. Connect to IP+ via EMS (WEB)

7. Configure:
System info
Radio parameters
MRMC
Interfaces (E1sETH.)
In-Band Management
In-Band Management VLAN (different than #1)

RIGHT - Upper IP+

8. Connect to IP= via EMS (WEB)

9. Configure:
System info
Radio parameters
MRMC (make sure you set the same MRMC as in step 8)
Interfaces
In-Band Management
In-Band Management VLAD (make sure you set the same VID as in step C.7)

RIGHT - Lower IP+

12. Connect to IP+ via EMS (WEB)

13. Configure:

In-Band Management VLAN (make sure you set the same VID as in step C.7)
Step D: Enabling Protection

14. Connect via EMS

15. Enable Protection (make sure Protection cable is connected on port 3).

When you click Apply you will be notified that your Protection port (3 RJ-45) can no
longer be used for data due to Protection mode.

Enabling Protection may take a few seconds. In addition, new alarms may appear on
both units, on both ends, due to configuration mismatch and radio link state.

Once protection is applied on both IDUs on each side, each per of IDUS communicate
via the protection cable and decide which is active and which is STBY.

Repeat steps D.14 to D.15 for:

LEFT - Lower IP+

RIGHT - Upper IP+
RIGHT - Lower IP+

At this step you are required to connect the IDUs to the Protection
Panel as explained in step A.

Step E: Copying configuration to Mate
LEFT - Upper IP+

16. Access the IDU via the protection panel.

17. In the Protection window (screen shot above), click Copy to Mate.
Copying configuration to mate units may take a few seconds to minutes, depending on
configuration.

Once copying has completed successfully, a reset process takes place and systems
might switch automatically from Active to STBY and vice versa.

Repeat step E.16 to E.17 for:

RIGHT - Upper IP+

Step F: Accessing all units via local Active unit

LEFT - Upper IP+

18. Connect via Protection Panel.

19. Access mate unit via Open Mate and compare configuration parameters
20. Access remote active unit via Remote Radio page
21. Access remote mate unit.
Step G: Switching from Active to Mate and vice versa
LEFT - Upper IP+

It is assumed hereby that the Upper units are the Active units.

22. You may use the following features to switch between one state to another:

Protection Lockout: Off: switching is enabled

On: switching is disabled

Protection force SW: Off: forced switchover is disabled

On: user triggers a manual switchover (requires Apply)

Manual switch: If conditions qualify for a switchover, the system may accept the manual
switchover command. If conditions do not qualify (e.g. no radio link on
mate), manual S/O will not occur.

Repeat step G.22 for:

RIGHT - Upper IP+ (assuming it is the Active unit)
