PROBLEM SHEET 2 (The Research Question)

1. Problem :
The influence of the seat position concerning learning outcomes of students in
the class
2. Background Problem
a. The success of teaching and learning process can be seen from the results of
learning achieved by students
b. The success of Student in learning can be caused by several factors, one
example factor is seat position in the class
3. Research Question
a. Does the seat position in the classroom affect student learning outcomes in
class?
b. How to determine the right seating position to get good learning outcomes?
4. The key terms in the problem or question that are not clear and thus need to be
defined :

b. Learning outcomes
5. Constitutive definitions of these terms
a. Seat position
According to the KBBI, position is location of a person or goods, whereas
sitting is putting the body with pedestal on the buttocks. So it can be
concluded that the seating position is the location of a person with pedestal
position on the buttock on a base (that can be a chair or other).
b. According to W Winkel on the teaching psychology book (1989) ; learning
outcomes is the success achieved by the students, namely the achievement of
student learning in school which is realized in the form of numbers or values.
6. Here are my operational definitions of these terms :
Seat position based on operational definitions of these problem is a location
or place of students in class for accepting or receiving information or the
matter from teaher. The seat position can be in the front, middle, or back.
Learning or studying outcomes based on operational definitions of these
problem is a something that student can get from learning or studying process
when they had a test. Learning outcomes can be got from test result / score in
test.

7. My justification for investigating this problem (Why I would argue that its
important question to investigate is as follow :
Why this problem is important to investigate, because based on new year of
school academic in last July. First day when the student went to the school. They
with their parents go to shool earlier morning and has purpose to get suitable seat
position and comfortable. Almost all of the parents choose front position. From
this experience, we try to investigate the influence of seat position with studying
result of students in the class. Based on literature that we find, seat position can
make influence students concentration. Some student can focuss when they sit in
front because they sit close with the teacher when the teacher was teaching. But
there are also some student that easier to focuss when they sit in back seat. So its
depend on characteristic of student for accepting information. However, almost of
student who sit in front or near the teacher is easier to accept the matter and they
are more focuss than the student who sit in back. Student who sit in back usually
have many times to not listen the teacher and do many things such as playing
games or talking with friends.
