International Day of Jupiter.

A manifesto towards a
new consciousness.

The International Day of Jupiter would be an annual world event that aims to
raise awareness of the importance of the planet Jupiter that has influenced our
lives and our terrestrial evolution. To celebrate the International Day of Jupiter
would be ideal as a date, the 16th of July of the year 1994, when Comet
Shoemaker-Levy 9 collided with the giant Jupiter and was an unforgettable
event when the entire population of planet Earth could see live from the
Television the impact of comet fragments illuminating small areas in the gas
giant.

Every time the date of the event of the International Day of Jupiter is celebrated
it would be ideal to promote it in schools, universities, associations, etc. For
educational, scientific, artistic and cultural purposes it can even include
activities such as literature, mythology and films related to the theme of the
planet Jupiter.

Until today the planet Jupiter has been ignored, the sun and the moon have
been conceived as the main source of terrestrial life, but we forget that without
the planet Jupiter the terrestrial history and of the humanity would not have
been present today.

Although it seems to lie, that Jupiter is where he is has quite decisive

consequences on the fate of our planet. Many astronomers think that if the gas
giant were not where it is and did not have the mass it has, the planet Earth
would not exist.

The existence of our gas giant has been instrumental in "sweeping" the Solar
system of asteroids and kites capable of causing mass extinction on Earth.
Calculations made by astronomers show that without the planet Jupiter, the
number of objects in the space of 1 to 10 kilometers that would collide with the

1
earth would be an amount 10,000 times greater. With Jupiter somewhere else
in space, our planet would not have formed and without the planet Jupiter the
emergence of life would have been much more complicated than it was.

I extract an interesting paragraph from the book Physics of the Impossible of

Michio Kaku, on page 134. If Jupiter did not exist in our solar system, Earth
would be pelted with meteors and comets, making life impossible. Dr. George
Wetherill an astronomer at the Carnegie Institution in Washington D.C.,
estimates that without the presences of Jupiter or Saturn in our solar system,
the Earth would have suffered a thousand times more asteroid collisions, with a
huge life-threatening impact (like the one that destroyed the dinosaurs 65
million years ago) occurring every ten thousand years. -Its hard to imagine
how life could survive that extreme onslaught-, he says.

Let us promote this manifesto to create a global, educational and cultural

awareness of the importance of the planet Jupiter in our lives and to create an
international event in each day that is celebrated in honor of this giant planet.
Help the future generation research more about the planet Jupiter, also create
art and culture about the planet Jupiter.
