iZone/iLearnNYC offers quality professional development for teachers and administrators that marries
edtech integration with instructional practices that can be immediately implemented in the classroom.
The sessions are grouped into 3 strands: Blended Learning, EdTech, and Google.

BLENDED LEARNING OFFERINGS


Blended Learning Institute (2 Day Institute)
Description: This is a F2F institute that guides educators to teach in blended classroom environments.
Participants will learn effective strategies for managing and teaching students in blended environments and
explore the ways blended learning can effectively support standards-based teaching and learning in all subject
areas. In addition, participants learn to meet the needs of all students by selecting and using a variety of
teaching tools that aid in personalizing learning. Attendees will plan, create and develop a blended lesson using
digital resources that they will implement in the classroom. Bring your laptop each session and headset with
microphone for Day 2. Participants must have iLearnNYC Standard Licenses in order to participate in the
workshop.

Blending Your Classroom using D2L (iLearnNYC's Learning Environment)

Description: Educators will learn best practices and methods for building blended learning environments in the
iLearnNYC D2L Environment. Participants will learn effective strategies for managing and teaching students in
blended classrooms and explore myriad ways blended learning can effectively support standards- based
teaching and learning across disciplines and grade levels.

Turn It Up with Flipped Classroom - Part 1

Description: In this session, participants will explore use of class time to create student-centered learning
opportunities that encourage communication and collaboration. You will hear from a master teacher as he
shares his planning process and classroom instruction model. Then, you will design your blended classroom
model that stresses collaborative group work to improve retention, discussion and higher-order thinking.
Participants will come away from the session with a firm understanding of how to use interactive resources and
media to encourage student-centered learning, communication and collaboration.

Turn It Up Part 2: Flipped Classroom Using Google Hangout and EdPuzzle

Description: In this course, you will learn how use Google Hangout on Air to flip your lessons. Google hangout
on Air and an unlisted Youtube channel will provide a wide variety of ways to present materials and allow for
collaboration in your classroom. In this course, you will learn the basics of creating videos and mini lessons for
students. While using other google tools, we will also explore creative ways to implement videos and lessons
into your curriculum. It is recommended that you attend Turn It Up. Must have a gmail account and basic
understanding of Google.

Shuffle Your Classroom Using Playlists

Description: In this session we will learn how to personalize student learning by using various edtech tools in a
playlist to deliver content and assessments. You will create your own curriculum playlist to implement in your
classroom. Basic Knowledge of G-Suite; Bring an upcoming lesson; Headsets needed.
Audience: Middle and High School Teachers and Administrators

EDTECH OFFERINGS

Using iPads to Promote the 4C's: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity

Description: Are you just starting an iPad implementation in your classes? Eager to gain some clarity on
navigating the setup procedures to manage and supervise iPads in your building?
Join us at this beginner, user-friendly session to explore those concerns and to evaluate some popular apps
along with the iPads built-in productivity tools that can be used to support educational activities. We will examine
the potential for using this mobile device to promote collaboration, communication and students as creative
knowledge constructors. Participants must bring their own iPad.

iPads Part 2: The Right Tools at the Right Time

Description: Wondering where to next with that huge App Smackdown list? Puzzled on how to select the Right
Tools at the Right Time; how to move beyond TechUtainment and use the iPad to support student learning
during a unit of study? In this workshop, attendees will examine one teachers planning to create tech-infused
lessons throughout an 8th grade Expeditionary Learning ELA unit. After exploring select apps and processes for
purposeful tool selection, you will then review your own unit and adapt these practices to create your own
tech-infused lessons and digital learning management resources. Come join us for this full-day, hands-on
odyssey!

Search Smarter: Guide to Web Literacy

Description: We live in the age of information overload which can be overwhelming at times. Therefore, it is
imperative to teach students and in many instances, ourselves, how to assess information for accuracy and
validity. In this workshop, learn how to read a web address, identify the author, see the history of the page as
well as learning how to verify external links. All of these things will help you and your students become more
literate!

Tech Tools to Create, Engage and Deliver Instruction

Description: We have all heard I have the best digital tool for that. The problem is finding the time to devote
to learning how to use that tool. This workshop is geared towards exploring a number of digital tools that will
assist in creating more engaging lessons as well as developing projects for your students.

Description: Participants will explore open educational resources (OER) to utilize for teaching, learning, or
research. Identify and explore digital textbooks, course readings for blended learning courses as well as

Engage Your Parent Community Using Tech Tools

Description: Finding time to communicate with parents can be a challenge with all to do during the day. This
workshop will explore different tools to engage parents and support communication around parent interaction
and participation.

Creating Comics to WOW Your Students

Description: With approximately 60% of our students being visual learners, why when students get to fourth
grade do we suddenly expect them to read only prose? Come learn how to weave the visual with text to create
comics (graphic novels) with your students that will be sure to leave your students wanting more and a new
perspective on literature. (Download the Comic Life software on your computer before arriving to class. Will
send instructions to registered participants)

Know Your Students Better: Formative Assessment Tech Tools

Description: Just like a GPS that guides you on your journey, formative assessment is a process of continually
assessing student progress and making adjustments to maximize learning. You will engage in various
technology tools such as Plickers, Todays Meet, Go Formative, Google Forms and Edpuzzle and have creation
time to implement these tools into upcoming lessons.

Description: Professional Learning Networks can be a powerful collaborative venue for achieving higher student
achievement, after all, a lot of heads are better than one! Join us, teachers and leaders, to explore tools for
increasing collaboration and communication within your PLNs. Anchor activity to create a Twitter account and
use it.

Screencasting Simplified

Description: Intrigued by the idea of combining text, images, video, live drawings and audio recording into a
powerful showcase to inspire active student learning? Attend this session to explore the use of some
screencasting EdTech tools to enrich your lesson planning. Come learn some best practices for implementing
this support strategy to provide all students with differentiated level means to access curricula material. Bring a
unit plan so you can begin planning and creating your own screencast to use upon returning to school!
