CCS Code of Conduct for Half Past Seven

Participants Name________________________________School Year__17-18_

Members of Half Past Seven at Chateaugay Central School are chosen not only for their fine
musicianship but also other qualities that exemplify being positive role models in our school.
With the amount of public exposure that the group receives, the music department at CCS expects
the members of this group to abide by the general rules of kindness, loyalty, and citizenship
befitting a school music program. The music department and the Administration of Chateaugay
Central School have established the following code of conduct for Half Past Seven.

This one form covers the whole school year; its rules are in force during the entire school year. A
signed copy for each musician involved with this group will be kept on file in the music
department.

The music department will hold an orientation meeting with the students selected for this group at
the beginning of the year to discuss the code of conduct. The students will be informed of the
penalties that will be enforced. Both parent and students will realize that if they sign this code,
they are saying that they understand the code and the students will abide by these rules.

A. The following violations will result in a hearing before the High School Principal and the
music department to consider dismissal from the group. Students will have the right to hear
charges and tell their side of the story. Students do have the right to appeal the decision.

1. Use of tobacco or any drugs, including alcohol, or attendance at a party. Note: A

party is defined as any gathering of students where one of the purposes is the illegal
use of alcohol or drugs.
2. Any act of theft or destruction of property belongings to an individual or school.
3. Gross misconduct.

Penalty:

Dismissal from the group. The music teacher may consider allowing the students to re-audition
the following school year.

B. Attendance at rehearsals is a must in order to obtain the best results possible. Therefore, an
attendance policy must be in place in order to achieve a certain level of commitment.
Students will be in violation of the attendance policy if they are either late for a rehearsal or
miss one completely without prior approval from the music teacher. Students will not be
penalized for missing a rehearsal if they have an excused absence from school.

Penalties:

1. Every time a student is late, a record is kept of the tardiness. Three times late will
equal an absence.
2. Once a student has three absences, they will be put on a probationary period until the
end of the semester.
3. Any absences during the probationary period will result in dismissal from the group.

C. While not normally requiring disciplinary action as severe as dismissal from the group, the
following behaviors represent a serious departure from the standards to which we hold all
students, including our musicians.

1. Foul language, obscene gestures, etc.

2. Acts o f disrespect or insubordination toward a teacher, bus driver, or any person
responsible for your supervision.
3. Lack of cooperation and/or participation with your fellow musicians.
4. Breaking established school rules concerning conduct on school trips, on buses, etc.

Penalties: The music teacher is in the best position to deal with these offenses as they occur. For
that reason, the music teachers are authorized to make individual rules and procedures to deal
with this level of offense. These rules have been approved by the High School Principal.

Any student that consistently demonstrates any such behaviors listed in Parts B and C as per the
discretion of the vocal music teacher will be put on a probationary period for the remainder of the
semester. At this time the vocal music teacher will hold a meeting with the student to make them
aware of these offenses. A parent/guardian phone call may also be necessary. Any single offense
or violation of these rules during the probationary period will result in immediate dismissal from
the group.

D. The responsibility for the enforcement of this Code of Conduct for Half Past Seven rests
with the musicians and music teachers and should form a basis for a music program of
which the entire school can be proud.

Note: It is clearly understood that this Code of Conduct applies to the musicians conduct at
any time; both during and outside of school hours and whether on a performance trip or
elsewhere.
