Lesson: London by day and by night
Materials used: students themselves, board, text-book, worksheet.
Time: 50 minutes.
Skills: reading, writing and speaking.
Objectives: - Students will be able to anticipate the content of the text, discussing the title of the text,
Students will be able to identify details from written messages, key-information from authentic texts,
Students will be able to write short paragraphs on the topic London
Students will be able to express opinions related to the topic.

Activity1 : Lead in- questions and answers

Aim: to introduce the new topic to the students, the students will be able to anticipate the content of the
text.
Time: 5 minutes.
Procedure: the teacher asks the students the following questions:
1. What do you know about London? Can you remember some important places from this
city?
2. what do you expect to find out from todays lesson?
3. What does the title of the lesson suggest?
Students are supposed to come up with answers. The teacher gives feed-back.

Activity 2 : Reading comprehension

Aim: to help students extract the most important details from certain texts about London.
Time: 15 minutes.
Procedure: students will take turns to read the texts on different places from London. Then one of the
students will go to the blackboard and write the place described. Teacher explains any unknown words
and gives the translation.
Teacher gives them feed-back.

Activity 3 : True or false?

Aim: students will be able to identify details from written messages, key-information from authentic
texts,

Time:5 minutes.
Procedure: in pairs, students will read the sentences before the text and mark them True or False. The
teacher will assess their work.

Activity 4 : Where in London?

Aim: students will be able to express opinions related to London.
Time: 10 minutes
Procedure: the students will have to answer to some questions as quickly as they can. The questions
refer to places from London. The teacher gives them feed-back.

Activity 5: Discover London

Aim: students will be able to work with the knowledge acquired on London.
Time: 10 minutes
Procedure: students will work in pairs and will receive a worksheet. They have to find 12 words that
best represent London

Activity 6: Feed-back and home-work.

Aim: to review vocabulary related to London.
Time: 5 minutes
Procedure: students will have to answer short questions about places from the city, then the teacher
gives students the homework for next time- likes and dislikes about London.

Discover London.
Search for places from London and for words that are representative for this
famous city. You can read them horizontally or vertically. There are 12 hidden
words.
