STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

To strive, to seek and not to yield these words of indomitable spirit have been drive and
propeller of my life. A seeker embarking a journey in pursuit of excellence, undefeated attitude,
proactive approach and dedication for a cherished dream to be an integral part of vanguard of
scientific progress. I am firm believer that challenges forge an individual helping unfold the inner
strengths and potential by inculcating an indomitable spirit to persevere and progress. Born with
an inquistive mind and a quest to learn I excelled in academics and invariably spent additional
time at labs understanding the practical relevance of the theoretical concepts. We live in an era
where there is a continuous development in the technology and science field, each day there is
progression of new machinery or upgrades to the existing machinery. Fascinated by the diversity
of Civil Engineering I desired to be an integral part as I watched the state of the world plagued
by natural calamities I was convinced that the dire requirement is to develop ductile structures to
withstand to withstand the wrath of nature. I am aided in this regard to be a part of this
burgeoning sector through a higher educational endeavor from an institute of international
repute.

Heightened proclivity towards Mathematics abd Science subjects cemented my interest to pursue
Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from the reputed Guru Nanak Dev Engineering
College, Ludhiana, Punjab for higher studies, which is among the top colleges in north zone of
India. I found civil engineering thought-provoking and challenging than what I had presumed.
Right from the beginning, my aim was to not just gain knowledge but to make sure I understand
the subjects in depth rather than just getting marks. Fortunately, I was able to put up good marks
on board too. The extensive curriculum acquainted me with the basics of Engineering and Iwas
especially enamelled by Structural Engineering subjects such as Strength of material (SOM),
Structure analysis (1&2), Design of Concrete Structures (1&2), Design of Steel Structures
(1&2), Foundation engineering and Survey furthered my inclination in this potential field. The
wide gamut of subject infused in me the spirit to explore the core concepts of engineering and
understand their practical relevance through various academics projects, industrial visits and
training, workshops, seminars and symposium.

While going through degree, I had also gained a good experience of using modern tools like
Total station, Theodolite and Auto level, while undertaking a topographical survey of a defined
area in Naddi, Himachal Pradesh India, in a training for three weeks after 4th semester. I believe
civil engineering is the only field, where one's work can be seen and felt directly. To be a good
civil engineer, I believe you need to be calm, hard working and should be focused on work. For
developing these qualities, I felt that my college proved to be the right place for this objective.
I completed four months Industrial training at Januari Chohal Construction Division (Irrigation
Branch), Hoshiarpur. The project I was part of involved construction of metalled road. I was the
Trainee Site Engineer and was entrusted with the effective execution of work. I managed the
group trainee engineers, and was also responsible for evaluation of structure after the work was
completed by contractor. I also learnt and oversaw the problem faced during construction and
their solutions. I also completed two months software training at CADD CENTRE, Hoshiarpur
where I was acquainted with desgin of structures usind STAAD PRO Software. I desgined
multiple storey steel and reinforced concrete structures. As I progressed academically I was
equally involved in co-curricular and extracurricular activities to develop as a holistic
personality. As an enthusiastic sportsperson I have excelled in football that have helped me
develop the qualities of discipline, agility, focus and concentration.

At this crucial juncture of my life I am seeking my academics parameter from a country that will
transform me into an astute professional. Canada is undoubtedly the prime source of providing
quality education with world renowned universities, providing complete leverage to the students
to unfold their creative capacities, creating professional for a better tomorrow. To my further
ambition I wish to apply for Masters of Engineering (M.engg) in civil engineering from the
highly acclaimed University Windsor, for its excellent research facilities combined with
distinguished and dedicated faculty. My admission into your esteemed institution would be a
great thing for my career as it will help me to achieve my goal in future.

The university being a confluence of rich diversity aims to bring out the best in each individual
with its provision of world class amenities, enriching campus experience and the intellectual
student body. The invaluable contibutions of the eminent faculty, the advocates of out-of-the-
box thinking have provided a new dimension to learning by developing laboratory, in-depth
research facilities and instructional modules that would provide a fresh insight into the concepts
to get in depth knowledge techincally as well as get an international dimension to my education
from one of the leading centres of academics excellence to which any ambitious student will
look forward to. I feel that prospect of being part of a multicultural environment would impart an
additional dimension to my development, cultivate my intellect and help carve a solid and
unshakeable self-identity providing a new dimension to my objective that will endow me with
skills to be part of this burgeoning sector as one of the envisioned Civil Engineer.

I am aware of the determination and perseverance along with hard work required to complete
the graduate studies, given my proclivity towards the field of my interest, my key attributes of
diligence, strong resolve, deep analytical and problem solving abilities I am confident to meet the
challenge. I look forward to be part of the distinguished community by joining as a graduate
student at your esteemed institution and will strive in earnest to be an asset to the university and
contribute postively to the existing culture of excellence.
